Star Wars: The Old Republic

I really didn't have ANY plans to start playing another MMO, but in the end I got SWTOR since it's free to play the first 30 days, which fits perfectly into the Christmas holidays.

I am currently installing it and I am planning to play a Jedi Consular Shadow, an Imperial Agent Sniper or an Imperial Bounty Hunter Mercenary.

Originally, I was very critical against this game because it looks like a WoW clone, but the story actually seems really good and despite the fact that I am forced to pay for WoW for another 12 months, I am not actually playing the game.
So I need a new MMO untill Guild Wars 2.

Well, either way I'll write about my first impressions + some screenshots and maybe I'll make a video or two.

I heard that despite all their promises of being ready, the servers have gone down the pooper?

Old Republic is awesome in so many ways! Without a doubt there has never been an as generally awesome mmorpg ever. Of course, any game that cost so much monthly can never be worth the money but... It is awesome! The only reasons not play this game are that you have sufficient self control to resist the temptation to buy such an expensive game, you really dislike mmorpg or you consider yourself unworthy of such awesomeness. It really is suprising that TOR has not become a large topic in this forum. Maybe there is another TOR thread.

A friend of mine and her boyfriend asked Acu and I to play this with them and join their guild.
I am still thinking about although they have advanced quite a few levels so I willl be way behind.

If you like mmorpg and star wars and money is not a problem then you should definitly play TOR. Especially if you have friends to play with and you can always ask them to make new characters. Good thing that in TOR you do not have to farm boring mobs for exp. Majority of exp comes from stuff like quests, space combat and pvp games so leveling up will not be boring either.

I am not planning to contiune to play SWTOR beyond the 30 free days.

The game is very smooth and plays well, but the leveling is very boring and feels like a grind. WoW Cataclysm had much better low level questing. What WoW does not have is the awesome class stories, unfortunaly you need to survive the quest grind to reach there.
I hear that there isn't a whole lot of end-game content either.

In the end, I have already played a hotkey MMO called WoW for 6 years. I'd rather wait for something new, such as Guild Wars 2.

Have never played WOW so I can only compare to free mmorpgs but I do not get the grind feeling with the side quests at all. I find them interesting with their own little stories and many varieties in the quests themselves.
Reaching the max level might become boring but I get the impression that when you do become that high the game will be more about having fun, be social with other players and do whatever you want. There is of course still plenty of room for future expansion of the game as well.

I played at release for maybe +2 months. It was a lot of fun but my brother and friend who I played with could not settle on which classes to play and when we would play so eventually we stopped and did not pick it up because it was expensive. I did try to play it again after it was supposed to be free2play but the game refused to let me log in on my old account so I gave up. What exactly are the downsides of not paying?

My best character was a cool male zabrak gunslinger who made it to tatooine but I also enjoyed other classes such as powertech.

Here you can red it
Downsides are:
*slower exp gaining
*limited access to warzones missions heroics
*higher prices at vendors
*The Sprint available at lvl15
*Only one crew skill
*No Bank access
*Credit Cap 200 000
*Limited general chat
*Can't Send in game mails
*Can't Trade
*Only Two characters active per account
*The mounts have 15lvl higher requirements
*Inventory unlocks only by Cartel Coins
*Two quickbars
and so on... it is playable in F2P mode but of course it is harder and less enjoable... You can unlock permanently somethings by buying one time cartel coins and spending on unlock instead of monthly subscribement...
