Well they sort of have. In beta I always started with hero with regeneration spell when playing stronghold and inferno. Not viable anymore?
I can tell you the most uber healing tool is called "life drain", Haven and Sanctuary don't have access to Darkness magic, I think that's why they need better healers. Necros are just fu***ng healing masters they have "life drain", regen, racial and healers.
Oh, and talking about direct damage spells again. Don't you find that so ironic: the most brutal and might representative hero (stronghold - might/blood) got the BEST direct damage spell in the game!  The "spell" is Power of the Horde.
Man that thing was showing 40k-41k of dmg  at the end of the epilogue.

Ret aura III is very good, but it's even better in mid-end game and when your hero is plus level 20 with top tears rep....
Magic Haven is probably the only faction to benefit fully from this....as light magic is the way to go anyway...

Heroic Charge doesn't work for harpies.
This could be intended. Flying creatures can't charge, making this great skill not so great.

Yes, Heroic Charge only applies to melee attacks from non-flyers (as it's based on squares moved across, not flown across)...
Yeah, Heroic Charge is cool, but use Rush more frequently....

I was surprised myself but on Stronghold campaign map 3 I used warlord's command on first turn instead of Rush.
I had 1000+ goblins with no range penalty, and cleave. So I started every battle killing two enemy stacks with my goblins

Heroism/Mass Heroism is unusable and thus useless on Necro creatures.
I would expect it to work, excepting the Morale part, but it won't work at all - you can't cast it on Necro creatures.

Most of those abilities don't work on Necro. Emotionless creatures are unaffected by Heroic Charge, Burning Determination, Inner Fire and similar effects.
Another interesting thing to note is that Heal cast by YOUR Hero on Undead or Demon troops will actually harm them, while it will actually heal Orcs.

Erm....yes, cos inferno/necro are vulnerable to light.....
