What would you do?
Yesterday I found out that a level 2 sex offender moved in to neighbor's house. (There are 3 levels of sex offenders, 1 probably won't re offend no notification of neighbors. 2 may reoffend and notification available. 3 likely to reoffend and notification of neighbors.)
This guy drugged and molested at least 2 teenagers 7 years ago. His records show that he is a drug abuser and didn't respond well to the court sanctioned therapy in prison.
Now he moved into the house next door.
When I found out I called the owners who are renting the house, they didn't know that a rapist was living there, (His daughter lives there).
I have a youung son, and now my wife doesn't want to let him play in the front yard by himself.
What would you do?

I'd be wary... Is he police tagged or have they just let him out totally free? In Britain, they are all known as schedule 1 offenders, and are not meant to be housed in areas
1) Near schools
2) Where there are likely to be children
If you are uncomfortale with his presence (as you as a parent have every right to be), would your local authority be able to re-house him with enough resisdential support (ie, a large number of you complaining about the situation)?

He's not a level 3(the real sick bast@rds) and the sherriff's notification gives you his picture and arrest history and that he is in the area. But since it said he lived near my cross street it was fairly easy to figure out that he is my new neighbor.(Just moved in last week)
The sherriff's report also warn against doing anything unlawful against the guy. But I still have to worry about the perv living next door.

Not sure, I haven't spoken to him yet. I was going to do a meet and greet thing tomarrow, but since I found out his history I think I will forego that pleasantry. I don't understand why his daughter would let him live with her after he raped her friends.

To her he's still a person i guess.. sometimes blood is thicker han water... If he has been out of prison a while, it makes it less likely he'll re-offend.. but if not.. who knows?

First of all i know almost nothing about you. Thats kind of a requirement for a situation like this. I dont know how much you like it there or your financial situation and so on.
What i do know is that i would never ever leave my son alone outside(When/If i get one)under these circumstances. And thats tough, thats really tough. I dont know how old your son is. But when he reaches school age he will prolly start to play more with other kids. And its tough to be a baby sitter all day to your son and his friends. Id try to solve this without moving but if that came nececcary whats there to think about? Youre son must be one of the most valuable things u got. I think it would be worth that extra trouble to get away from him then always be worried that something might happend to your son.
I feel really really sorry for you that u guy like that has moved into your neighbourhood, is there any way to get rid of him? That would problably be the first thing i checked out. Talk with the rest of your neighbours and hear what they have to say about it, maybe someone will come up with a idea. Or if there are other families with young children u might work out some "guardian" system that looks out for the kids when they are out playing.
This really sucks, i really hope u find a way to work things out. Good Luck!

I don't know - I don't have children,
but I'll go and talk to that person and ask him to move to other place (if law doesn't restrict me), if not I'll move if I have the possiblietis. Anything else - and there always be something to be afraid.

Hmmm! Hard to imagine that! I don't think I should be worried since your kid is a male. Did the house owner know that this guy is a convict? They you should talk to the house owner and ask him/her to get the guy move out from your hood! Or you can move out if you are only renting your place.

I wouldnīt do that. Then he has to consider you a threat, just like you consider him one, and he might do something destructive to get rid of the threat.
If you are really concerned you can
1: Make him move.
2: Move to a better neighbourhood.
Morally heīs not in jail, and if heīs a christian he might even have confessed to god or jesus and been totally forgiven. But I can understand that you have to be extra careful about the children.
If I could decide, I would probably change the law so that the punishment for sex crimes is death. But thatīs just one of the reasons I donīt get to make the laws.
If it was me, I would probably move.

Well actually the way we think - doesn't that prove that person being in jail never repairs himself. I mean he'll do the same and same anyway - after the jail.

I have talked to the owners of the house and they are going to cancel the lease. Legally you can't force someone to move, but this rapist was not on the lease, His daughter and son-in-law were. So the owners said it was a violation of their trust and they now will move out by the end of the month. But I will still be on my guard so that he doesn't take any action against my family. But I doubt if he will do anything.

It seems problem may be solved by end of the month. 
Theoretically, ppl should give 2nd chance to those who had
made mistakes in the past. But practically it's bull****, and if your children got threatened, I don't think even George Bush will do nothing against this guy.
I personally agree with Sir_Stiven's view on the "guardian system". Working together with your other neighbour is a good idea.
Go and "threat" that guy with some of your big friends is a bad idea IMO. I think negative action will arouse negative emotional reaction and a vicious cycle may arise. Well, just my view.
Always keep an eye on him is the best you can do now. Ya, I know that will be tough. Being a parent is never an easy task, perhaps not easier than taking out a max-out utopia in week 2.
Well, maybe you already have a plan/idea about what to do. Anyway, just to show my support to you, Oldtimer. Wish it will got solved by the end of month.

1) come to his house, spill some gas on his porch, ring the bell, light it, and run.
2) while running, take a brick and throw on his car's windows.
3) the next day, put some liquid steel thingy in his car lock, then come to his house, cut off his power, and telephone lines. They wake up, no phone! no water! they are late for work! But oops! the car windows are smashed and they cant open it!
4) the next day get about 50 people, and all quietly at night sneak near his house, and then throw like 500 rocks at his windows.

Here is an update.
I have talked to the owners of the house, (I know them and they were horrified that this guy had moved in. The rapist daughter is the one on the lease.)
So they are using the fact that they feel decieved to evict the tenenat and they should be gone by the end of the month.
I know it sounds good to terrorize and harrass the rapist but if you do that the police will just end up arresting you and putting you into the system. I would not risk ruining my life over that scumbag unless he poses an immediate threat, if that happens, I would feel free to take him out.
