'Vistas' are useless is there is no iteraction on the adventure map. As simply as that, so far 3D has been a drawback for the series.

Yeah, that's why I said the game could use some more interactive objects. Heroes is almost all about gameplay, but a few eye-candies here and there are not a bad thing if you ask me

So true. In addition, I don't like Heroes V even after TotE...

Well you're just crazy. TotE in my opinion is just flat out the most fun and interactive of the systems so far. Sure, you can crush an entire neutral army in one turn. Sometimes you can crush a player army. But at least it doesn't go the H6 rout and make these things take half an hour each. Also, each faction has its own playing style, their own skills and their own ways (plural) to be built "Properly."

Also, I love the 1 pixie/ blood maiden vs. infinite neutral zombie battles. ABUUUUUUUSE. (though I like the dungeon version better, since the sylvan attack animation is so damn slow. >.> )

Heroes VI - stupidly high requirements (not that I care, I can handle it), dumbed down systems, that goddamn DRM, Necromancy that isn't Necromancy (imho), WAAY too much online play BS.

Heroes V - kinda hateable, but at least decently playable - it's still Heroes, but 3D didn't help it much at all.

Heroes IV - it would be my favorite if not for the somewhat unwieldy interface and other things. (no support for my resolutions, damnit)

Heroes III - goes without saying that it's a jewel in the crown.

Heroes I and Heroes II - I haven't played those, so I can't say anything, but I guess there's nothing wrong to say about them.

I like all five of them, haven't tried 6 yet. From what I hear it could be the worst.

well, about the initiativebar, i've gotta say that it is true that it gives the game an important part of randomness, but in some way it is something i like becouse the battles are more dinamic and the heroes are able to have their own turns.

apart from this I  want to ask you one more thing, do you think the last  heroes game that ubisoft is releasing will be worthy to buy? and please add why not just "yes" or "no".
please be impartial(I am saying this both for fanboys and haters, but even if you are a fanboy or a hater can respond too).

The big problem of initiative bar was the randomness. One very bad day could mean (in a final battle) 6 out of 7 enemy stacks plus enemy hero starting before your first stack/hero.

With last heroes, do you mean Shades of Purple?

Dungeon'll be fun to master based on VIP fans' tidbits... I say wait a bit for a (hefty, if possible) discount, and then buy, if the unpatchable issues of H6 don't bother You too much.

Why I think SoD is worth buying (for me at least):

- I really like Dungeon's design (some of the best in Heroes VI yet)
- By buying the game I will boost up the sales, which in turn may provide us with another expansion (unlikely, but still). Yeah I know, I'm your typical milking material for Ubisoft...
- I don't think it's that expensive for an expansion pack (at least in my country)
- Heroes VI was de-hyped by Ubisofts ill game supporting policy, but I still find it a good game, far better material for expansion (read: more factions and stuff), then starting from a scratch with another "lacking" release like Heroes VII (hope I'm wrong here).
- Maybe SoD and the Dungeon faction with all their additional content (hope we'll get at least two dozen of adventure map objects) will be that "lacking element" which will provide enough stuff to make the game far more replayable...
- I'm kinda in a need for a tactical rts games, and I can't seem to find any alternative, at least not until AoW III comes...

It would really suck if ubi decided to scrap H6 and move to the next one without at least one proper expansion. While it's true that many do not like the way H6 turned out I would be most disappointed if they just gave up after the adventure packs. And there was too much content missing from the vanilla game to consider it a worthy game of the series' legacy.

Just a joke about the overuse of purple on the upgrades

Now, for your question...Shades of Darkness, worthy of buy?

I think Poly answered correctly, I have nothing more to add

Plus, when you look at all this art of Academy (courtesy of Ashan Compendium), it seems that the faction already has a complete unit rooster. The art style shows that it's Heroes VI compatible. Heroes VII will probably have a different art style so it will all go to waste...

And I really like the look of Academy in those concept pieces...

inb4 Heroes Online is THE Heroes VII.
I mean, one of the Polish gaming magazines (CD-Action, for those live here) called it the potentially next official Heroes title.

Having hard time believing this, but for me true Heroes games ended after IV came out, it was just straight downhill with that 3D BS...

Where did they get this idea? From what I've seen the game is fun but it cannot compare to a full heroes experience.

Don't mind them. CD-Action is a thing of the past. Once a leading voice in our games industry journalism (strictly PC based) they are now a ghost of things past. They are trying their best to somehow manage in the 21st centuries internet based reality, going so far as to even adapt console-based articles to stay alive, something that was unthinkable back in the day. So I don't suspect them of being too well-informed nowadays...

Personally, I think Ubi made the effort to stablish some kind of base with the Ashan Compendium. There's room for some twist and additions, but still stick to the base.

I really doubt they made artworks of factions like, for example, Fortress, just to scrap it without use.

We will see.

Nothing gets scrapped in ubi's Ashan. It will appear sooner or later, in some shape or form.
