What is honorable play?

I have been playing on-line for about 6 months, and played many different players, but still have a lot to learn.  I want to know when is it honorable to offer an opponent to load autosave because of goof-up.  I have made many errors in the play of the game, ie. running out of time and not building, or not moving important hero, or attacking with a single army after transfering troops.  I have never asked for a restart when these things happen.  I have encountered 2 games recently where my opponent had a mouse "slip" at a critcal moment and have resigned.  Then I am not liked anymore if I dont offer to load auto.  I have cleared up 1 of these situations, but another is still angry with me.  Is this a matter of "Honor", or a matter of "growing up" ?
I can see playing between friends and restarting anytime for the fun of it, but I think tournement play is different.  Yes, its still very much for fun, but I take it seriously too.  I guess I think there has to be a limit.  At what point do we stop asking for restarts ?

Basically there should be no restarts. That´s the starting point, and if someone is angry because they messed up and you didnt offer a restart, then *they* are the ones who are dishonorable.

To play honourably is to play accorcing to the rules, not using a cheat, not dropping if you lose.. not lying to the other player and not complaining too darn much.

Some ppl play to win as their main objective, those ppls are boring   Some ppl play to feel happy, those ppl are cool  Some ppl play because if they get really good at heroes, then maybe everyone will admire them for it and they might even get laid.. those ppl are sad

Some ppl play to escape reality..  those ppl are.. trainspotting.

Before you get to play heroes you should:
1. Get a girl
2. Get money
3. Work out
4. Get friends
5. Cook dinner

Then you will play honorably automatically

I RUELS!!

Hia BossBo
We have had a few games in the past, in several of them I made some, as U call em ' goff-up's' but I thought ; What the Hec*k ......and played on!
U win a few and loose a lot..or is that how the saying go!? ( j/k)
I like meeting new people ( online as well as real-time) BUT, I usually NEVER play a person I haven't had a lill chat with before!
That way people can be angry with me for no reason ( ie. Not wanna play em <--------could not be bothered less )
But I think it's important to build up ( as you do in real life) a so called friend list and play them, then U wont have any problems/disputes ( well not that many
But! I 2 have had a mouse-slip once in ahwile and I imediatly tell my opponant what is wrong, then save, then ( maybe ) send the ( my/yours ) save to opponant, but a goof-up in this category, I would think it's okie to ask for the auto-save.
UT <---- is kinda DrUUnnnnKKK right now and can't think of anything else right now.
Hopes you get this lill dispute worked out soon...I dont wanna have you to think about this the next time I 'crush' ya ( j/k )

some things i think that belong to honorable play:

- Keep ur words (e.g. if you agree to a rule don't break it . if u wanna play without rules then tell it rightaway)

- don't cheat (dropping, trainers, editing )

- be a fair winner

- be a fair loser

- never beg for reload.(Please let me reload please please please) if u killed ur main by accident,  (mouse clicked something it shouldn't) tell ur opponent what happened and that u concede. if he is willed to grant ya a reload he will offer it then. If not , accept it and don't whine.

Of course your main objective is to win, it's defanately not to lose as they are the only two choices you have.
Having fun is up to the player & I dont really like to play players who brag about how good or bad they are doing.
Or how they judge a player without knowing or playing them.

I think honorable play is when you are playing vs Castle on Giant War and you are red...and then WEEK OF THE ANGEL comes up and you drop and then claim you couldn't save because your "mouse froze up" when everyone knows pressing 'S' key saves the game.

Don't you think so Boss? =)

Or when you lose a hero and then your "power goes out". That's pretty honorable.

Don't you think so Boss? =)

Or when you say "Hey I have to take my son to school." just to trick someone into fighting you on cursed ground w/their warlock. That's pretty honorable.

Don't you think so Boss? =)

But seriously if someone needs to reload then I think they are a putz. I haev NEVER asked for reload. Even if I misclicked or whatever excuses people want to use.

Most people don't ask. They just drop.

Or they have a "power failure".

hehe i didnt know that S was a short cut to save, Maybe i need to learn some of those keyboard shortcuts Anyone that has a few to teach me? and dont say "press A" during combat because Archie has already pulled that one on me

this is funny!

in my oppinion Heroes is to be fun. when i play for fun i dunnot mind giving any reload cause if my opponent made a mistake. Let me give this example..

I play this dude.... everything looked good for me.... i had a damn easy fight with a black dragon in my turn on scout... so to save time i put it on autocombat... out i come and win... then i was to fight with main with only 3 thunders.... it was suppose to be easy fight but....

I FORGOT TaKE OF AUTOCOMBAT LOL

i lost main..

NOW if my opponent wants the win regarding to that kind of mistake... i say F@CK him.

playin for 3 hours and stop the game there... that simply just sucks.

Actually i would at anytime give a reload and offer a reload aslong as its for normal toh. if it comes to a FINAL of some sub-tourney... no... i wouldnt give any then.
Nomatter what happened.

The one time I think I would have appreciated a reload when I did not get one was also due to auto combat.

It was on the map giant war, it was day 1, I guess I had auto combat on from a previous game and hit a stack of grandelves.  Well the AI couldn't handle it and my hero + full day 1 army was killed.

Not a big deal on many maps but on giant war day 1 army is huge and so are the fights. So no chance to do anything like that.

I said I'd rather just conceed then go on.. (hoping for reload) instead opponent took that literally lol so I reported loss

An honest mistake should not mean total defeat but to start again.
How can anyone feel good about a win they did not deserve for example yes.
Yesterday was playing DMbirdofprey & we were talking but & I replied without me looking at the board & as soon as I hit enter I ran from combat & I was like WHAAAT the HEECK.
I apologised & said I will concied but he said no dont worry about that well just reload.
Now thats how it should be done.
Like how Titan says though if it's in the semis I would hate to do it but it was his bad & his loss yes ):

The subject of the Boss's thread/topic is me. That is, on wee1 day2 my mouse attacked a horde of harpies. Then I told him that I concede, he wins. Then he offers "auto". And I accept it. When I quit the game I see that I been kicked out of the zone. I try to come back in; but I cant. I write an e-mail to him explaining the situation-that I am unable to come back. Then he replies me that that he is not willing to load the auto; that he would accept my resignation.

Here are the e-mails:
............

I am sad to hear these from you. I will report loss. 1 more loss is not important to me. However, I would have offered you to load the auto on the cost of regretting it; and would not be so sorry if I lost in the end. And please do not try to convince me to continue our game. Because, after this attitude of yours, it is impossible for me to play with you again.

I will report my loss, and you will get your gold.

Regards,

Madmartigan

since i offered i will load autosave, but i will say that i really dont like to do it since this is a tournement game.  I make mistakes all thru the game, and wish i could reload, such as running out of time.  I forget to build, or mistaken attack.  I never ask for a reload.  But, since I offered I will do so.  Otherwise I will accept your resignation and ask that you report the loss.  Thanks Bossbodiddly - gretchin

Hi Bossbodiddly,

We were playing a MvsM game with you tonite. Then my mouse made me attack to a horde of harpies and we decided to load the auto(thx. But now I am unable to enter the zone back ((

Please dont think that I have left the game or the zone on purpose. I just cant get back.

I have rebooted my machine 3 times. but it is not working and I dont know why. This is the 2nd time this happens.

Yesternite, I was supposed to play with Levski for battlefest finals. but I could not get into the zone, just like I am unable to now.

Please keep the save. We will finish it when I manage to get back into the zone.

Regards,

madmartigan

.................

What does it have got to do with honor? That he offers me the auto (whereas I offer to report loss-instead of asking for the auto) and then he says he is not willing to. Blah, why propose something that you are not willing?

Then, it is my "honor" which he questions. I reported my loss. Enjoy your points and MvsM gold.

I have been offered to load autos by many friends which I gladly accepted. One time, on week2 day4, opponent tells me "I killed my main, can we load auto?" I say yes and lose the game. Does this make him dishonorable or me "honorable"?

It is just a matter of personality. Just the before I played him, I played with Frank. When it was my turn, I first attack a bunch of skels, then I plan to attack an imp cache, but I decide to leave my liches to a scout so that they are not killed by the imps. When I attack the cache I see that I have only 3 Liches with me. I tell Frank the situation and we load the without any complaints or any other problem. Does this make me dishonorable? I dont think so.

Bossbodiddly ,
Practice what you preach.... if you dont want to load the game why you asked then? if you want that people thinks that you are honorable you are in the wrong way to prove ... first of all you must feel honorable inside... i played many times with madmartigan and the honour is in his blood !!
