Thats odd, I am sure they would consider any quality release as a form of respect, given how much work that implies.

I concur. I have trouble seeing where the lack of respect would be, IMO is rather flattering. Also Hota is Hota, their scope goes beyond one town, and ERA is easily recognizable. Maybe I am mistaken but I didn't hear any complains from the crew about the VCMI port. If it really bothers you maybe you could ask them for green light, but a refusal from their side would honestly surprise and puzzle me.

On the contrary. We did/do have some complaints about the VCMI port, though not too strong or public ones because of individual circumstances under which it had appeared. We would definetely not want it to become a precedent, though.

As for ERA case - yes, igrik did contact us and agreed to respect our decision to red-light the further distribution. And we are grateful for that. A respect for authors right to say 'no' is the actual reason to ask for permission of using some content.

I suppose this position has to be explained, though.

HotA is a project, one of few principal points for which are its quality and integrity. Each detail is being perfected sometimes for several months before getting accepted as being "fit" in every way. Seeing all that work simply copied to another environment in a blink of an eye, without any regard to what it was supposed to be into in terms of graphics, gameplay, balance, storyline or else... Is a strong demotivation to continue ever creating such content. That is why we strongly discourage any use of HotA's content outside of HotA.

Now, it does not mean that we stand against any other modders or projects development. Using others' groundwork is not the only way to develop content. It is a way in itself, but we willfully don't use it and expect the same attitude towards ourselves. That seems fair enough, especially taking in account that over time our artists have created some fully-public content as well as helped some interesting projects (like TSW) both with advice and with actual work without expecting to use it somehow later, in HotA. That is exactly the way we see modding work. Sometimes you create something for everyone (using or not using it yourself - doesn't matter), sometimes you help others to create their own stuff and the rest of the time - you create exclusive content that becomes part of your unique image.

Fair enough, but now I feel guilty for using Hota's red tower -and a few other nice objects- in one of my maps. I hope world will not end.

Can someone please post the number of original single scenarios in Heroes Complete (RoE, AB and SoD)? I am counting 159 but some might be deleted so I would like to know the exact number of original scenarios available. Can someone help?

Still, I think there's some missing.

I remember there was Myth and Legend in RoE and it was replaced with Pandora's Box in Armageddon's Blade. Thankfully I have the RoE cd in hand and extracted this nice map.

I read in Celestial Havens that there's an Armageddon's Blade map called Seven or something like that. And a Fortune Teller?

Does anyone have these maps? I would like to download them and add them to the list.

Hi, I have a few questions regarding a personal mod project if you guys don't mind (bragging about your work ). Let me preface this by stating that I have no WoG experience, just with Heroes 5, SoD and HotA.

1) Is it possible to disable map and town buildings, say for example Hill Forts and upgraded dwellings if I want to make a mod where towns have more options of units per tier but only some units can be upgraded?

2) Is it possible to add new spells such that the AI will use them?

3) Can I edit the construction pages of towns to make room for more structures, and/or make structures mutually exclusive (see pt. 1)?

4) Is it possible to wrangle game mechanics? If so, what are notable exceptions? Like, for example, I'd want heroes to be able to learn more than 8 skills apiece, maybe add in extra skills, negative luck and luck affecting neutral creatures without a hero and extend Luck and Morale limits (like in HotA and H5)

Finally, 5) What exactly is the difference between ERA and VCMI?

EDIT: I tried to compile ERA sample plugin AS-IS but in my compiler it tells that WinMain16 is Missing.
Tried two possible fixes (based on my compiler's example) - just one line fixes, then compiles, but one crashes ERA, and one does nothng

I don't know about nik312's argument.  
 
When people made heroes 1 2 and 3( even 4) it's obvious they had great passion for the games. The developers not only viewed it as a job but something of passion. They worked hard on the code, on the creatures, on the music, on everything.  
 
However, with the help of modders H3 became greater.  Sure, some mods are snowty, however that is the price you pay for Wog, Succession wars mod, ERA, and so much more.  
 
So to me it seems hypocritical. You took something great and made it greater. Now some people could do the same things with HOTA, and the thought that they could do a better job isn't good for you.A better example would be playing the Cove faction in WOG would be fun for a lot of people, in a way HOTA simply isn't, because they are fundamentally different. It doesn't have to be better than HOTA to make it fun. Mapmakers could make cool maps and people would have more enjoyment out of Heroes 3, thanks to you.  
 
Why wouldn't you want that? Because of your ego? Because it is "yours" ? If the guys who made these games thought the same way, Heroes 3 could have never become so successful. So I respect your opinion, if this is important for you I understand.  
 
Between you making hota unmodable and not making hota at all, the choice is very very easy. However between that and a modable/open HOTA, again it's easy for me to realize what is better for us players.

Hello,

long time since i posted last in this community. I installed ERA II over H complete editon und wanted to play some of my old favourite maps for WOG again (i.E. "Time Of Prophecy") Installation completed, WOG seems to be the default environment.

Downloaded ToP from maps4heroes.com, put all data in H3 Data folder und started. Map loaded, but non of the nessecary scripts were active (i won first battle vs Scorpion King for exaple)

If anyone colud tell me, where i screwed up, i would be sooooo happy.
