City or village? Somewhere in between I say. Maybe town is a good word. It must not be too far away from the real city but still have most of the stores. It should be surrounded by nature and not packed together like a real city. It is also important that the town can build at least level 4 creature dwelling, town hall and tavern.

In my opinion the best place for living is in a village/town which is close to the city. Something like a satellite settlement in the city’s periphery. But also it's always good to have a flat near to the downtown. So the best option is to have both – house in the village and flat in the downtown.

I don't see why anyone wouldn't want to live in a sprawling metropolis. I see no point for standing in a village, telling my son: "Soon, all this will be yours."

Like, seriously, if you're not on top of a giant sprawling looking at a city that stretches beyond the horizon like a cruel, mocking parody of the loneliness and sameyness of the world, while raising your kids and destroying all who oppose your domination plans, I see no point.

Like, seriously? Go back to the stone age, lol.

World domination is fine and all but in a metropolis you can not take a short walk and find yourself surrounded by nature. Not that I take walks by my own free will but still, in a metropolis you miss so much beautiful nature scenery. And walking by unique looking villas surrounded by grass, bushes and trees must be much nicer than walking among crowds on plain straight roads and pass by ugly square buildings while smelling the stench of cars.

Well Dagoth, step outside and listen to the constant noice, breath the heavy, thick and smelly air, take a walk to the forest and then come back to my place and we'll try those things again. I notice the air and the noice the most, and frankly, I don't really like being around people. In a city I can't take a walk to solitude. There'll always be somebody around the corner.
I grew up on the country, so it's only natural I'd prefer the smaller societies and I do see the convenience in living in a city, but I don't feel the same way.

I would be fine with living in a huge metropolis.

We just don't have any of those around here, our capital would appear pitiful if compared to the cities in China or Japan.

I'd love a small town, Hill Valley type, to be really honest.

I'd like to visit big cities or see what life's like in villages, but to live there a small town would be to my liking.

I would, but I have a deep-seated grudge against trees and wildlife.

What is man, if not the conqueror of nature? Trees are only there to be turned into charcoal and wildlife is only there to provide me with nutrients.

Let me put it bluntly: That is not even a definition.

Let me put a better one:
-Abonded Countryside(a house per several kilometers)
-European countryside(a house per kilometer)
-Small comunity(300-2000 citizens over a large area with a few centralized neighborhoods, roughly nonexisting in countries where large centralization has been completed)
-Smaller city(per definition of a city its not a city, but a community)
-Small city(Oslo, Trondheim, etc... Basically a city without a suburb, hence small, and maybe even large in areal)
-City
-Metropolis (Tokyo, etc)

Which can be split into 3 defitions:
-Countyside
-Urban
-City
Lots of suburbs is usually small cities connected to the actual city via highway and trains.
And then we have the differnt countrysides. The completely abonded one, is creepy. Its not a countryside, its a wasteland.
The more settled one is annoying to life in, because everybody knows everything about every. It is like that small town called Jante, and its not good mentally in the long run. On the other hand, its also a really nice and safe place to grow up, with a clear social structure, so it can be nice too.

And in the end I guess a really large city would be nice. I hate the small society I have grew up in.
Its too small, you can't do anything, and everybody knows too much about everyone.

I really like the "city" (140 000 people) I live in. Geographically, its nearly perfect and its size is also perfect. Downtown is beautiful with a castle, pretty big parks, garden and a river. Moving around downtown is also convenient. You can get to all points of interest without walking a lot.

Personally, I think its best to live in a house suburb close to nature and a jogging track but still just outside of downtown. So you can easily take the bus downtown and be there in about 5-10 minutes.

I would also be able to live in a modern metropolis like Singapore, Hong Kong or New York. As long as there are big parks and there are options to easily get out of the city when you feel like it.

Living on the countryside is overrated.
Atleast in Sweden. I have lived on the countryside for about one year and half now and while its really really nice in the summer, it kinda sucks ALL other seasons and you just feel and are so isolated.

In the end it comes down to how rich you are. If you're really rich you live in the middle of snowing nowhere and everything you need comes to you.

If you're poor you live in the middle of nowhere and you have to go everywhere. Or you just live in a city.

I've lived in villages (and a small town once) all my life, wouldn't mind a change .

Shame that 'country air' gets fouled by the insane amount of traffic, towns are swift and easy to get through, and you're bogged down in crabby villages for near half 'n hour .

Ivor, I don't think we live in the same villages or cities. It's the exact opposite here, you can get anywhere faster on foot if you are in shape in a city.

Personally, I like the countryside more just to be alone and silent. I don't think I could last in a city, since I would never have a place to go just to listen to the wind.

Either a large-ish town or a suburb in a small city. Something with more than 30,000 and fewer than a million people. Living in a large city is too expensive, and small towns suck.
