I know, right? Completely missed out on all of it this year, and I almost feel a bit proud managing to! It's not easy feat in this day and era, to not get showered with pop culture news that you don't care one bit about. So Tiger Woods crashed his car when he was drunk? And I should care because of what reasons?

Ohh you'll like this update then

39. AZERBAIJAN
Sabina Babayeva with "When The Music Dies"
4th place O_O

One of the most irksome things about Eurovision (and it happens every year) is when an overrated song gains HUGE praise for ridiculous reasons, which ends in an undeservedly high placement overall, slaying my own favourites. It is HORRIBLE. This year, we have several of such "overrated" nobodies , but the WORST of them is definitely Azerbaijan's in my opinion. I wouldn't mind it placing in the TOP 15, actually.... but it finished FOURTH.

And how did it finish fourth? I have no idea! I expected some points from former soviet republics and turkey... but I didn't expect this TOP5 placement. It *IRKS* me.... because this really isn't anything special? The song is stale and manufactured by Swedes, the howling guy in the background (apparently some award winning singer) is annoying, the light effects on her dress are kinda neat but still it and the previous two points end up in a transparent "vote for me" plight which, to my horror was answered with 100+ points. Wtf Europe

And on top of that, you have Azerbaijan being a petty dictatorship, a TERRIBLE contest organizer which led to poor performances from MOST singers (among other things), AND their previous track record of sending amazing entries (Elnur & Samir <3 Aysel & Arash <3 Safura <3) being SHATTERED by Ell/Nikki's victory.

And Sabina's performance itself? Mediocre. She's off at SEVERAL points in the song. I don't know what else there is to say. All I know is that this does NOTHING to me, except bring TONS of irritation because of all those little jagged-rock-in-the-boot annoyances. Boring, overpreforming, undeserving topdog, mediocre, annoying, stale, transparent,... Yep, definitely worth of a bottom 4 spot imo.

Best moment/worst moment: I don't care

Backstage: nothing special rly. She is just as generic as her song.

38. MONTENEGRO
Rambo Amadeus with "Euro Neuro"
38th place

Hmmmm let's see what would make a great song? OH, why not create a song by stringing random rhyme words together? That sounds like a good idea....? yeah, as if.

What a disaster. This is TERRIBLE to the point it actually becomes hilarious. Untill I composed this list I had convinced myself I actually LOVED this in an ironic way, but now that I relisten to it;... definitely not. I laughed when it was originally broadcast, true, but I was laughing AT it, not with it. I was laughing at how deeply Montengro was embarassing themselves... Which is something completely different from LOVING something and loving something ironically (as in laughing at someone/something being unintentionally hilarious)

I don't think I need to elaborate further. Thankfully, this speaks for itself, how BAD it is and how it rightfully stayed behind in the first semi final. However, it would have been better had it gotten nil points, instead of 30 .

Best part: Completely butchering the pronounciation of the word "Refinance" so it would rhyme with "breakdance".
Worst part:The part where he finally foresakes singing altogether and tries to get the crowd to clap for him.... only for the crowd to remain silent and indifferent to his plea. Hilarious... but so awkward (ouch!)

Backstage bits: Rambo didn't give many interviews, but once he was once asked to explain what his song was about and his reply was "It is about........ euro........ and....... neuro...."(direct quote). He was kinda funny backstage, actually. Unfortunately, it didn't translate itself to the big screen... at all :-/

That song was just a disaster. How it did not end rock bottom is beyond me, it was not even funny.

I see you had a lot of hate for the Austrian act, and it was far from my favorite, but within the genre I don't think the song was that bad. We have an extremely popular rap/pop duo in Denmark called Nick & Jay (or Dick & Gay among those who don't like them very much ) who play pretty much the same themes with how many girls they can corpolate with etc. etc. Not really my taste, but they have a massive following - that being said, EuroVision was probably not the right stage for that.

37. LITHUANIA
Donny Montell with "Love Is Blind"
14th place (wut)

This getting 14th place is downright outrageous.... and I'm slaying the overpraise Grand Finalebeasts rather sooner than later because I HATE them so much.

This is BY FAR the worst song in this years competition imo. It's such awfully old-fashioned dinosaur of a song which never captivated nor appealed to me.

It's just so... boring imo? The lyrics are bland, the music and rhythm is TERRIBLE (as it's awkward and cliché and older than most dinosaurs) and to make matters worse, the slow, ballad-like part takes WAY too long to get through. Nothing interesting whatsoever happens during that part. The blindfold gimmick was lol the first time;.. but after having seen it about 6 times now, it becomes sorta irritating (though not as much as that CRINGEWORTHY AIR GUITAR X__X)

And when the SONG finally pics up, there are SEVERAL annoying factors which make me dislike this even further.

- The annoying way at which he throws away his blindfold
- His backflip
- THE EFFING AIR GUITAR
- The terrible dancing until the END of the song X__X

Awful. Escaped my bottom 5, but still bad imo.14th place is WAY too generous, especially over ANY of the Scandinavian countries, Hungary and France. It INFURIATES me that somehow, all of Azerbaijan's friends (except Sweden and Serbia lol) got a HUGE amount of points and placed in the TOP7 for not real reason (spoiler except Estonia and Russia). More reason to hate Azerbaijan and it's likely they BULLIED Juries into voting for other muslim and/or ex-Soviet Countries (Lithuania, Albania, Turkey, Russia, Estonia, Turkey, etc). May they never win the contest again .

Best part: I enjoyed approximately ZERO of this song... I guess I thought it was lol that he sings "LOVE IT BLIIIIIND" while being blindfolded at first?
Worst part: The Air Guitar. GOD THE AIR GUITAR X__X

Backstage: So tepid. In fact, he's as self-entitled and boring as KURT CALLEJA backstage, but unlike Kurt, Donny is relatively humble and doesn't showcase his confidence as much as Kurt does. I can appreciate THAT, I guess.

Also he looks like Fievel from An American Tail which is lol.

Well, all I can do is repeat what I said above and emphasize that I think you are plain wrong in your assesment of this song. I respect that you don't like it, but calling it a bad song - much least the worst of this year's entries - is plain wrong. I think it's an excellent disco song, and even if disco did go away some 30 years ago, that still makes it an excellent song. And he's probably the best male vocalist in the show this year.

36. GERMANY
Roman Lob with "Standing Still"
8th place

Yummie, brown lights! SO *APPEALING*, AMIRITE?? HOW APPROPRIATELY THEY REPRESENT THE TURDINESS OF THIS SONG.

I mean, god, what a dreary song. Apparently Jamie Callum wrote this... if that is true, then I'm severely disappointed in Jamie Callum . It's so bland, in the worst possible way. Like... bland, fabricated, generic, following the SAME trend as "When The Music Dies", which we all know by now, is NOT something I'm a fan of.

Pre-show, I rooted against Roman so hard and I don't regret a single thing. I had him at #33 pre-show if I recall it correctly. His drop doesn't have anything to do with his live performance as he grew up to be EVERYTHING I expected of him and the few entries that were below him actually exceeded my expectations.

To elaborate, Roman's performance was bland, personalityless and dreary, and -worst of all- overrated my possibly ALL media, not in the least by his host of self-fellating fangirls who spend their entire day reading glamour magazines and mbating at the thought of imagining such "cute" guys naked. Ugh, fangirls X__X

(btw Roman's attractiveness is overrated, the ACTUALLY most attractive guy is from Iceland kthx)

Roman's vocal performance is nothing to write home about. I think he was even autotuned during the LIVE finale at certain points, which just IRRITATES me because they should've done that to so many other contests (like Greta/Jonsi, Ivi Adamou, Nina Zilli's backing vocals and Eleftheria Eleftheriou), and they would have scored SO much better (and higher than Germany), which they damn' deserved doing. I mean just LOOK at Germany and the songs it outlast. I don't understand how *anyone* with decent musical taste can prefer "Standing Still" to "Never Forget", "Echo", "Quedaté Conmigo", "Lautar" or "L'amore è femmina", all amazing songs in their own unique way. And then you have inferior, SOULLESS stuff like Germany and Azerbaijan outperforming them. It *IRKS* me.

Another thing I don't understand is... why is Roman even IN this competition? He's a fricking HIPSTER. A hipster who enters the most mainstream competition on Earth with the MOST mainstream song for that year? I don't get it... doesn't that go against their ideology? Or maybe he just likes dressing like that, i dunno. :-/

Also I hate his beanie hat. HATE it.

Overall, PAINFULLY overrated, a VERY undeserved high placement and just a dull song that never would have made it far in this ranking in the first place. 36th seems just fine to me.

Best moment: Nothing rly. It's too tepid for me.
Worst moment: Nothing rly. It's too tepid for me.... oh wait perhaps the AUTOTUNING of his voice at the end of the song . How unfair is that?

Backstage: He's a nice guy I guess... but oh my he has the personality of a glass of still water. And he ABUSES the word "Cool" to a very annoying degree. Is that a thing in Germany that I'm unaware of? Or it is Hipsterspeak? idk idk.

True, it mostly opinion. As far as the "best male vocalist" thing is concerned... err... Zhejlko Joksimovich? I mean, you don't have to be a big fan of his work (spoiler: I'm not), but he's EASILY the best male singer this year.

Even then, it barely means anythng this year. There weren't many male vocalists to begin with, and most of them were bad anyway. (except Donny, Zhejlko, Roman's autotune, and Pasha Parfeny)

35. ALBANIA
Rona Nishliu with "QAAAAAAAAAAJ" "Suus"
5th place

Rona "Craterface" Nishliu has her fair share of lovers and haters but i never rly cared for her myself. Like many ballads this year, her song has a VERY slow start which takes way too long, and by the time it finally picks up it's almost over. :-/

"Suus" isn't as bad in that aspect as - let's say- Portugal or Slovenia, but ironically, the slow part is actually the BEST part of the song. Me making such a statement hopefully illustrates how big the biggest flaw in "Suus" is: The Over-The-Top YELLING which happens SEVERAL times in the second part of the song. It's not fun, imho. Sure it's a good vocal performance, but it's obnoxious and more annoying than it is impressive. I just can't be bothered with Albania this year.

This isn't even the WORST part of "Suus" imo. As you may have guessed by now, I'm booting the overrated Finalebeasts, and boy, "Suus" HAS to be one of the most overrated songs in the history of Eurovision. Everyone jizzes over it like it's the biggest musical marvel to ever grace the contest, which is imho ENTIRELY incompatible with the first two paragraphs of this post. Obnoxious high-pitched yelling doesn't make a song appealing, and CERTAINLY doesn't make it artistic

But apparently, that, having a whererat's tail glued to your chest, fake dry-sobbing and dressing like the Queen Grimhild from Snowhite and the Seven Dwarves (mid-transformation) is ALL that's needed to be deemed "artistic" I guess.
It's GROSS, especially since the audience actually started to believe "Suus" is a masterpiece, awarding it a 5th place in the contest (which is IMPOSSIBLE to achieve without the sufficient amount of televoters to back you up). Oh, and I won't even START on her being the best performing Albanian artist in the Eurovision Song Contest so far. Poor Anjeza Shahini ;__;

Meanwhile, you have a song like "Kuula" (Estonia's entry) which was almost entirely ignored by the media, but was actually -you know- a lot better? Sure, it lacked the OTT theatrics... but it didn't need them to be interesting to begin with, since Oit Lepland's charisma is high enough to carry the performance on his own (he and Craterface ONLY have a 26 point difference between them, and still he's completely ignored. ::sigh:

Judging by this write-up, you'd expect Albania to rank a lot lower, right? But there are certain features I like about the song. First off, the singer: Rona Nishliu's looks are a disaster, but after googling her I've understood that bad looks are sort of her forte and she *werks* them too:

Exhibit A:

Exhibit B:

Exhibit C:

Her for Barbara Dex Award plz <3

And secondly, the music and lyrics. I LOVE a good piece of classical music and I'll have to admit: "Suus" music is good, as it actually captures the emotions Rona tries to express with her song perfectly (too bad you can badly hear it as she's screetching at the top of her lungs most of the time).... aaand yes, the lyrics. I wanted to find out what "Qaj" meant in Albanian. So sue me. Here are the lyrics translated to English (idk how reliable it is, since i don't know a WORD of Albanian)

n this world, love lives no more
Time has no time for us anymore, no
Noo, oh
Noo… oh…
Time has no time for us anymore

My airplane lands
On your souls’s runway without lights.
They elbow their way and rise today,
Those who couldn’t live yesterday.

But yesterdays have no importance
they were devoured by stormy seas.
Oh, tomorrows won’t bring anything,
Only hope without hope and madness…

Let me cry… cry… cry…
Cause this is the best I can do now
Cause this is the best I can do now

Let me cry… cry… cry…
Cause this is the best I can do now
Cause this is the best I can do now

Let me cry… cry… cry…
Cause this is the best I can do now
Cause this is the best I can do now

If that translation is accurate, then colour me a fan of her lyrics. "Suus" is STILL painfully overrated though, so I won't rank it any higher, SAW-REE.

Best moment: Whenever you can hear the music and she doesn't sing over it... which is kinda... nowhere, I just realized. Oh well, the English lyrics I guess.
Worst Moment: DEFINITELY her high-pitched scream during the instrumental part. It was WAY off-key.

Backstage: Ehhh, she's sorta sweet. Not a big personality, but likable enough.

Oh, that was another song that didn't leave any impression on me at all - apart from part of the melody being taken from Coldplay's Paradise.

I actually think the Albanian entry was ... interesting. It was very Björk like in its qualities. I don't particularly like that kind of music, but it was not bad, and I think a place in top 10 or at least top 15 was well deserved.
