School shooting in California

It's on many news sites, just an example. I prefer to wait for more details before commenting further.

INB4 Christian indoctrination is evil and causes school shootings.

INB4 Elodin: "Those people weren't Christian anyway, Christians don't murder"

INB4 days of "WHERE DO WE DRAW THE LINE..?!!"

INB4 Satanic baby masturbation.

INB4 thread lock.

...

But yeah that's horrible.

Maybe I should just lock it now, issue a few penalties to the usual mudslingers, and save everyone else the trouble of having to tape their exploded skulls back together, huh?

Awwww, but my mind hasn't been blown for a while.....

As a side note, school shootings are rather uncommon, and almost limited to the borders of the US (at least, student initiated school shootings are). It is terrible that some kids think that the only way they can get even or get respect is to kill their own class mates in what should be a safe environment...

ITT: People forgetting about teachers not doing their job. Its usually the #1 reason for a bad enviroment, and bad enough enviroment spawns murder and poor grades.

But anyway, this is terrible. Sorry for all the friends and family and, of course, the victims themselves. I don't think anything more really needs to be said here.

Damn it all, I meant I haven't had a good rage for a while! I did not mean that I haven't been shot in the head recently! The thought had not even crossed my mind!... I really hope that you are messing with me right now, and that you don't genuinely think that I was making a joke about this.

Meanwhile in capitalist America...

I wonder if its still the usual "Psycho goes apesnow" because he/she wanted to know how it feels like to murder some people...

Its interesting that its usually the case with mentally challenged people and its associated with bullying.
Nowadays, schools are about anything else except learning.

This pic explains it well:

One more reason that teachers should be armed with shotguns and they should put some automated flamethrower turrets in schools.

Point is,school enviroment quality is deteriorating and things such as this will be normal.Personally,I think it is the responsibility of the school to fix bullying and prevent shootings because I think that bullying is the reason behind this bloodshed.

Ah well! One more reason to spend money in private schools or machine guns and teach kids how to use one...

It's the abdication of parental responsibility to both teach and discipline to the schools, who really cannot hope to enforce any real degree of said discipline, between being unable to single out students really anymore, and the fact that most children these days have parents as breadwinners, facebook friends, and not really any kind of firm or disciplinarian parents that are needed to really be attentive to their children, and discuss/teach to avoid these kinds of abject tragedies. Schools have never been and will never be sufficient replacement parents.

It is truly insanity to think otherwise.

Well put, MC. Parents should stop blaming the school for what happens to their children.

Well, Drakon, this won't stop until there are truly comparable penalties or consequences for those adults whose children are delinquent. But then again, it has never been the responsibility of any government or organization in the world to force or control its members to do what they need to be doing.

As long as parents feel they have no consequences, they will only be concerned with what their children do if it affects them negatively, unless they are a morally principled individual.

It will sadly get worse and worse until it is as bad as we could possibly imagine...

The only way around that is for members of the community to step in as surrogate parents for all the neglected children. But that, in turn, requires a greater level of responsibility for all of us, as neighbors and members of our own communities, to be involved with those around us, not simply just our friends, but those we live, work, play, and are simply near/around/with throughout each of our days.

Greater levels of responsibility are too often what too many shirk, and are, quite simply, what we far too direly stand in great need of from this point forward...

Not entirely and I guess it depends on the society. In my country before the fall of the socialist regime the discipline in the schools was a very serious matter for the students, their parents, the teachers and pretty much everybody involved in the educational system on a state level. To be penalized in school due to bad behaviour even once was a very big deal, you were threatened with expulsion, your parents were made aware that their offspring is deviating from the model member of the society that he should be (also a big deal) and that he might find him/herself in an even worse situation if this continues, as might they. Of course the formal education was one way to indoctrinate the young people and turn them into "proper citizens" as far as the regime was concerned but other than that, the schools were what they were supposed to be - a place to learn things necessary for your future life (and the quality of the education itself was at least 10 times better than it is now). We don't have shootings in our schools (yet) but the institution has lost tons of its authority since the "commies" gave up the power some 23 years ago and currently it's a shadow of its formal self in the best cases and an animated corpse in the worst. And yeah, we have stuff like some spoiled brat beating to coma his school-mate because the latter "didn't behave properly in his presence" for instance - something unthinkable a while back.
In short, the state certainly can boost the authority of the school and the education in general a huge bit, but I suppose not in every society.
