Well d'uh I'm not stupid ^^ What I'm saying is it came loose despite that.

Will re-check, maybe the rubber-lever thingy needs to be bent a bit or something.

I don't think I like the sound of this; bending the components of your video card rarely turns out well.

I'm pretty stoked - finally got all my components in the mail and put my new rig together.  Took me about 4 hours since I didn't really know what the hell I was doing.  Nevertheless, it boots up perfectly.

Pretty bushed so I'll do all my software installation tomorrow, and then I'll post some pictures.

Bitfenix's stuff is really cool considering how new the company is. I'll be keeping an eye out on their stuff.

I like their Shinobi case quite a lot, very nice price for the stuff you get.

They've also got a nice fan controller.

If I was building a new rig right now I'd highly consider going with one of their cases.

Totally happy with my current setup though. Will likely build in this Phantom case for years and years to come.

Oh god those controllers are so complete bullsnow.

You have a fricking computer with an OS, why on earth would you want analog controls for your fans?
That'd be like having a car with your brakes being a rope and an anchor that you throw out the window each time you want to stop.

On the other hand, now that would be interesting.

Except many motherboards don't have enough spaces for all your case fans.

I know mine doesn't: it has 2 connectors for case fans.

My case has 7 fans.

And I suppose you have individual controls for each of them in your analog case control system?
Yeah right, just use a divider.

For me it's nice because not all the fans have the same sound level.

My 200mm fans for example, are way louder than the 120mm ones. Being able to individually control them is nice.

But yeah sure, if you're savvy enough with your cabling it's probably unneccessary. I find fan controllers quite aesthetically pleasing though, but if you're just all practical and **** then yeah skip it.

I opted for a different case.  Got this one instead because I liked the understated look and Corsair is a rocking brand.

Of the several hundred cases I browsed through, that one was in my top 3. The black/white contrast that Corsair employs in several of their PC case designs is very attractive imo. There was a Silverstone brand case I was strongly considering also, but it was a little too pricey to suit me.

As of now, my verdict is that I'm thinking I'm going to go with this this one. Cougar Evolution. Apart from the fact that the brand is called "Cougar", which by itself carries, shall we say, tremendous positive prejudice to my particular sentiments, it also looks ergonomic to work with and more importantly, it's spiffy.

I like where the power & ports are placed. There aren't any USBs in the back, but I can't conceive of any situations where that would bother me.

Having had my rig now for a few months, I've got no regrets about building it.  The Corsair case isn't flashy but I know it will last.  If it had come with better documentation, I'd have no problem giving it flawless marks.

@All:

Seriously, the price differences on the AMD vs the Intel CPUs are ****ing extreme. I'm almost paranoid to get an AMD because the affordability feels too good to be true.

If I recall, the last generation of AMD's chips didn't get very good marks, but I'm far from an expert.

Probably it doesn't really matter, but I went with Intel anyway.

I use an AMD Phenom II X4 965 3.4 GHZ BE.

I've maxed everything I've ran into so far and it cost me 120 USD.

Unbeatable price/performance imo.

'Course its tech is getting a bit old by today's standards, but considering the progress in graphics currently I'll probably be able to use this one for many a good years to come.

The only problem I see with the recent AMDs is that the AM2+ processors don't work on AM3 motherboard sockets (due to something about the DDR3 RAM support) and the whole processor-to-socket thing is rather messed up - and these 1-2 pins difference could ruin your whole configuration if you don't pay attention. Other than that, I've never had problems or performance issues with AMD and they are certainly more affordable.

I have my sights on the AMD FX-4100 Zambezi 3.6GHz(3.8GHz) Quad right now. I can get it as a packaged deal with a respective motherboard , heatsink/fan, and 8GB ram for 220USD.

Is there anything abnormally retarded about this build?

I'll be grabbing a 1TB hard drive and a nice monitor on ebay. For the other stuff I can't seem to find stuff cheaper that's worthwhile; just a lot of vendors that sell packaged deals that actually sometimes add up to more than if you bought the items separately.
