Freezing games

Hello guys,

I recently downloaded plenty maps for Heroes 3. They are quite interesting to play and require plenty time. However, most of them just after a point the game freeze. It simply stacks on the AI turn and it usually happens late in the game. Is this a common phenomenon or I can do something to prevent it?

It is due mostly to mapmakers mistakes, then of course the game scripts.
Most XL maps have weekly events for AI which give a huge load of resources, while the game can't read after a certain amount. If you play for a long time, AI resources will go into negative and game will freeze.

Other common mistake is to forget to set neutrals to never join, thus AI join them then place in town garrison. When all 7 garrison slots are full, AI can't recruit anymore from that town but will still try...for ever.

Another issue is when giving to some AI hero with big stats summon boat but not water magic. He will try to summon until no more mana, for hours.

In general, shorter is the game, less chances to freeze. I don't know any map in the world which can not be completed before month 9-10 at max, so it should not be a big problem.

Ah I see, but looks like I can edit those stuff on the maps and make it less active. But if the AI gets diplocamy can they still get neutral units with the "Never join hero" option? Thanks!

New question:

I've set all the Players as Humans. So if the game freezes at a point, I could simply use the multiplayer option to play with those players for a turn or two and edit the stuff you mentioned that could freeze. Sell their resources for example, dismiss their unnecessary creatures save it and load it back on single player?

Sorry one more question.

I checked that 2 "trapped" Ai players are taking resources every once a while but taking a look at the Time events there isn't any event to grant them resources. Where else should I look for that?

Your solution to change all AI to human is the best. When freeze occur, rename save as xxx.gm2 then load it in multiplayer, hot seat, and eliminate the problem.

That solution has actually helped. Although it didn't seem that the AI suffered any of those things you mentioned, I was just randomly spending their next few days and then they were back in action. I had to do that a few times though.

In a recent SP campaign map I was playing ("Clan War", the 3rd map in the AB Festival of Life campaign), I had reduced the last enemy to a single town, no heroes, and taverns are not buildable in the town (so basically the AI can do nothing but recruit into that garrison).  The town had several small stacks of elementals to start with, recruited from a nearby map dwelling.  If I left the town alone for a while, eventually the AI dismissed those stacks and replaced them with recruited town creatures.  I'm not sure if there's something different about the situation or if it's something about the version of Heroes that leads to that difference in behavior.

problems

i am playing someone in tcp/ip. the game works fine if i try battle monsters,but when i play against the other player. in my screen the monsters do one thing ,and on the other players screen they do another.some of the damage i deal with magic doesnt show on the other players screen only on mine.it kind of stays behind.does anybody know what the problem is? for the record this is with a wogifyed map
