hard to say... I guess my three first heroes are very good, but so are some of Might heroes... Solmyr is just great (I've won _another_ victory with him today ), but if I can, I ALWAYS choose Gelu. He's really the best hero in the game!!!

Yes I agree. I think this hero was named after one of the programmers. If he gets tactics it's game over basically.

Best knight has always been any of +350 gold. The gold can't be overlooked unless someone is playing Mullich. Also, knights commonly see the estates skill which increases gold even further.

Marius is the best Demoniac here is (special in Demons, creatures which can get quite numerous due to the Pit Lords, and an Advanced Armorer). Not many other good choices for hero. Ignatius has good secondary skills (Tactics and Resistance) but specializes in Imps. Rashka has specialty in Efreets but has Scholar secondary skill.

Ignatius + Octavia all the way. Tactics is a must and with the extra gold you can buy more Pit Lords.

Clavius has special in money. Moandor looks charismatic but has learning (so he's crap hero). Straker is junk. Tamika has special in Dread Knights and Offense. Vokial has special in Vampires but has artillery as secondary skill. Charna has Tactics but also the special in Wights.

Isra....and it's not fair on randoms but hey.....he can't be argued with.

Deemer (I love him)
Sephinroth (I don't care about crystals, intelligence is nice)

Hard to say but in xl maps; attack,armorer,sorcery,necromancy,estate,logistics,resistance sipacialities are very good.

Logistics is best speciality.

Units speciality is not good (except Galthran).

Armorer specialty is better than attack specialty.

Sorcery speciality is better than magic specialty (except thant,luna jeddite)

+2 speed bonus is good but i prefer armorer specialty.

Why? I don't play enouch MP to talk about but I never pick armorer by a simple reason, I don't find much use for it. Early game I need to use my stacks of one unit to suck retal (they will die with or without armorer) and my shooters, so archery and offense will be better then armorer, two extra speed will make first battles a lot easier. Mid game when taking cons and topes armorer would be usefull but expert shield will work too and earth has other uses like slowing the griffins. Also in the first confronts with enemy heroes armorer will avoid some losses but normally soon after taking the first player I start getting OP enouch to be more worried about the possibility of enemies fleeing with all their artifacts then of losing too much army, so again Offense, Archery (and Tactics) will be of better use.
After I conquer and develop two or three towns of the same type, (specially if with some external dwellings) my main's army gets so OP only the magic skills and spells like Slow, Blind and Resurrection matter, my raw power is enouch to take any battle the problem is only how to avoid to have my enemies running at first chance. in my rank for large maps;

1) Logistics: Number one; best Hero specialty.
2) Armorer: When you are take recanters cloak or orb of Inhibiton, you are unbeatable.
3) Attack:
4) Resistance:
5) Socery:
6) +2 Speed:
7) Archer:
8) Estate:

I watched a lot of tazar vs hack matches. I myself tested. Tazar is better hero %100. Because hack is very need mass haste spell for rush to one tazar's unit. But tazar no need magic for own army. Also tazar can disrupt to hack's mass haste spell with mass slow. Also Rush to one unit tactics is useless against Tazar because armorer sipeciality always useful. But attack specialty is useless when tazar rush to one hack's unit. Because you have only one retaliation. In next rounds, hack's army are vulnerable.

Also i think fortress is more better than stronghold.

Archery speciality is not better than attack and defense specialities i think. Because this speciality is only effective for ranger units. So easy counter with blind to shooter, air shield etc...

I know that with even armies and skill Tazar will survive but that only happens in MP games.
If playing against AI I'm not just saying I find Armorer specialists worst, I'm saying I find Armorer skill pretty useless cause my enemies will probably flee the moment I put a dent on them, unless I have shackles or find a trick to keep them in battle. And here I often use tricks that need me to take some losses, at least till I find a way of resurrecting them. Does your AI experience differs a lot from this?

Best magic heroes: Gundula,Dessa and heroes with intelligence specialty.
As to might heroes: Orrin,Mephala,Gunnar ( because all of them start with 2 good sec. skills which means you're less likely to get crappy ones like ballistics/artillery on your hero).
Overall my favorite: Orrin. Especially in HotA.
Honorable mentions: Tazar,Kyrre,Crag Hack,Corkes,Thorgrim,Eovacious,Aine,Alamar,Isra,Grindan,Sir Mullich.

My favorite hero in WoG was Gundula.
Talking about RMG, Crag Hack is behind doubt the stronger SoD hero, followed by the Logistics specialists in this order: 1. Gunnar; 2.Kyrre; 3.Dessa.
Corkes hability to (easily) learn Water by himself makes him my favorite hero ever and the main reason I'm so addicted to HotA and Cove.
Neither Gundula or Corkes objectively beat Crag but I hate to be so stressed to find a witch hut with Water before I run out of SS slots. With the expansion to XXL maps, Logistics specialists became even better then they were and they are better if you are a SP player trying to beat a record on a custom maps, if not Offense gets you OP much sooner then Logistics and with more income and less need of reinforcements, you can train other heroes sooner and you can cover more terrain with three fighting heroes then with one that covers 100% more terrain.

I've played PxP but it's not my cup of tea. I don't want to finish a match hating someone to the core and that's what happens when I lose. I am a pretty sore loser
