This looks surprisingly good. The game seems to take the best from Total War series (epic battles and a nice UI to control them) and Dawn of War (battle animations/interactions and unit "weight"). Plus it's an AAA fantasy RTS not some Kickstarter s*it (just joking). I just hope that your traditional Creative Assemblies bug-festa will be kept to a minimum...

PS: As an added bonus it seems that Tzeentch will have a big role to play here, and his usually omitted in various Warhammer games...

Just finished the grand campaign (long) on shogun 2, very hard difficulty. Now in the mood for some legendary Date, I'm ready.

4 turns into the game and already a full scale army shows up on my meagre borders, I have 800 men to face off 1900, certain defeat on the open field (if my general was legendary or something then it would be a fair fight).

Still, I annihilate his entire army using superior strategy.

I got 3 keys for "Total War: Arena" if there is anyone interested. It plays really well for a game in development and I got 201 hours already which says something about the game's state and playability.

Yeah, the Rome II release was so Ubisoft-style that they kept emergency-patching the game for months before it could be played, let alone enjoyed. CA lost a good deal of their fairly decent reputation with that title.

We can only hope they learned from Rome and release this more like Shogun 2. I would not put faith in that though; besides pre-ordering is not going to net you much anyway acquiring one unit pack doesn't mean much when we are going to be bleeding money for the rest of the DLC anyway.

Also anyone heard anything on naval battles or were those canned?

There is Albion DLC have to get there somehow. I can't say I blame them after Rome II's naval battles still a bit disappointing if they did though.

they're planning three games and (from what I gather) every major race will be available eventually through the different games and/or FreeLC (excepting chaos I guess?). Albion will at most be a payed faction in one of the later games seeing as the first one will focus on the Empire to the world edge mountains and Bretonnia will not be in at first. Ships are not planned as far as I know (as that would also, potentially, infringe on another GW trademark)

Three games?...Could you provide a link to this I don't think even Ubisoft is so miserly. Also Man O' War took place in the same universe so I imagine they are permitted to use it.

Try this

Quote:
We’re planning full game follow-ups, DLC content packs and Free-LC to follow the main release.
These will include new playable Lords, units, races and more. We’ll talk about these in time, but for now, our focus is on crafting a deep, rich and content-heavy main game.

Quote:
Future instalments of the trilogy will expand the world-map, bringing unique new terrain and introducing new playable Lords and their races. We’re planning these to be massive standalone follow-ups to the main game (like ATTILA to ROME II). You’ll be able to get just these and play them on their own if you like or, if you have the main game too, you’ll eventually be able to play across an expanded campaign map that includes all available areas of the Old World.

So more like big, standalone expansions.

So they really are breaking more than just factions up this time, how lovely. Well, there goes my hype.

I think they're limiting themselves and making sure the first game is as good as possiblebefore adding more, like DoW! And DoW is awesome since, just like here, they made sure each faction was copletely distict and different from the others before adding more.

Honestly, this makes my even mote hype ( though CA's previous content-cutting is worrying...)

Yeah that was my main problem with Shogun 2, take away the minor stat differences every faction was near identical, even the dlc units looked exactly the same as normal units only their unit cards changed. So factions being unique and having a unique feel is something I fully endorse.

Hopefully they do something about snowballing, I often feel in TW games that there comes a point when you can just can't be stopped, and I never feel like I'm being pushed back or pressured (except Shogun 2, but there it felt kinda cheap).

Realm divide was an interesting feature, except in my latest game the two of three of the last remaining major factions (the other being me ofc) sided with me, they were christian as well, (I was buddhist) so at the end I was like ...."what do we do now senpais?"

Sooo minions, go out and review Warhammer TW for me, I am skeptical. It's got 66% rating on steam, but that's prolly cause of early bugs and poor optimization, gonna sit on it, if the problem is even deeper (borin AF gameplay like in Rome II) then I might give up on TW altogether (new titles, playin MWTW2 atm with mods, Deus Lo Vult and Third Age mainly).
