It's interesting that I've never encountered a single atheist that explains reality without appealing to evolutionary reasoning. So it has everything to do with that.

I can and do all the time.  "Reality" (physical reality, and that's all science really cares about) is perfectly explainable through statistical thermodynamics, and evolution is just applied thermodynamics.

Quote:

Darwin's works (and others') laid the foundation for the current secular worldview.

This is wrong.

Quote:

You don't need to be a genius or a scholar to figure that out. If you can explain life solely through the interaction of matter and energy via a mechanism, i.e. natural selection + mutations, then all actions/events that ensue from such interactions are equally valid, equally important and all differentiations are purely arbitrary.

This is also wrong.

Quote:
So there is no difference between me slicing bread and me slicing your throat, they're both interactions between masses of atoms.

Fallacy.  Just because two things share a trait does not make them identical.

This is also all off-topic.  Please stick to the topic or start a new thread.

The irony is, people who likes that kind of sarcasm about democracy usually ARE the average voter.  It's like those quotes which say 90 percent of the people dont really live, they just exist. Everybody, while reading that kind of stuff, position themselves among the 10 percent.

What i sometimes say:
- I’m my own sternest critic.
- Gods have a sense of humor: They gave us reality but tease with anime.
- I’m the main hero of my story.

From fiction I liked:
- I pray to myself. For myself / HOUSE OF CARDS, Ep. 13/
- No. Not even in the face of Armageddon. Never compromise (Rorschach from Watchmen)
- I shall grieve, and I shall weep. But I shall never regret. ... Let alone undo it! Such an act would be a mockery of all who fought with me! /Rider (Fate/Zero)
i can bore you with more quotes from animes but this might cheapen the thread

From smart people:
-When a fellow says it ain't about the money but the principle of the thing, it's the money - Kin Hubbard
- How fortunate for governments that the people they administer don't think - Adolf Hitler
- Too many people spend money they earned..to buy things they don’t want..to impress people that they don’t like - Will Rogers
- I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it. - attributed to Voltaire

Heard somewhere:
- You're old when your memories become more important than your dreams.
- Life is too short for slow music. (Nightcore)
- It’s nice to be important, but it’s more important to be nice!

From poetry (not a fan so only one):
-...If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster
And treat those two impostors just the same;...
...Or walk with kings - nor lose the common touch,...
If - Rudyard Kipling

Yes, you're right, I am an average voter. And I rather be under the rule of someone like Lukashenko than have this parody of democracy in my country.

I've had the honor of traveling to Belarus. The cities are squeaky clean and the people look happy. And I probably will receive a permit to live because my great grandfather was from Belarus.

"[W]hat's the magic with [washing machines]? My mother explained the magic with this machine the very very first day. She said, 'Now, Hans, we have loaded the laundry. The machine will make the work. And now we can go to the library.' Because this is the magic. You load the laundry. And what do you get out of the machine? You get books out of the machines. Children's books. And mother got time to read for me... This is why I started my career as professor, when my mother had time to read for me. And she also got books for herself. She managed to study English and learned that as a foreign language. And she read so many novels. So many different novels... and we really loved this machine. And we really - we really loved this machine. And what we said - my mother and me - 'Thank you, industrialization. Thank you, steel mill. Thank you, power station! And thank you, chemical processing industry that gave us time to read books!'" - Hans Rosling

It means that a certain type of acting emotionally, the kind that's sometimes referred to as "in the blood", is often the cause of violence. It refers to scenarios in which something like the following can be said: "We must conquer our neighbors! Instead of being weak rationalist merchant pacifists, our manly warlike people must conquer!" or "He's a hot-blooded fellow, so when he found his wife cheating on him, he beat her to death."

"I'm not a principled advocate of monogamy; it's not for everyone... I am however a principled advocate of honoring your contracts and promises. If you don't want to practice monogamy, here's an idea: Don't agree to it. If you want a non-traditional marriage, write a contract for it. Don't accept the standard-issue version, then pretend that you didn't have a choice.

But aren't monogamous contracts 'unrealistic'? This claim makes no sense. If 50% of people who vow life-long monogamy keep their promise, what's 'unrealistic' about it? Monogamy is no more unrealistic than hundreds of promises that we expect people to keep - to show up for work on time, buy lunch next time, pay their workers, or give dissatisfied customers their money back. In each instance, if you think the terms are onerous, refuse them. Don't say yes, then blame the fates.

But what about human weakness? Here I take a hard line: Human weakness is a choice, and it should be criticized, not excused. I'm particularly baffled when economists say otherwise. In what economic model is 'lots of people feel tempted to do it' a reason to turn a blind eye? I embrace a simple alternative: Do the right thing all day, every day." - Bryan Caplan

On Bryan Caplan quote

It all seems perfectly reasonable at an instance. But if you think about it, most people who marry (out of love) truly believe they are never going to cheat on each other WHILE they are newly wed and signing the contract. It's after years of marriage they feel taken for granted or bored or not in love anymore etc etc and cheat. You can say "so why not get a divorce and cancel the contract then" but it's not that simple. They also fear and dont want to lose their family.

in a justicial sense, you say the "culprit" didnt know better at the time he signed the contract, but i believe in almost any justicial state theres the ruling:

"not knowing doesnt prevent you from being punished"

but on the other side, who gives a **** about the marriage, id rather live in a world of unmarriaged people.

Another thing christianism scourged us with.

It's fine to fear, but it doesn't justify cheating or make it any less of a choice.
