Battle length is a sensitive matter.. But I believe that H6 has a good potential there, if some skills were more powerful things would be a lot different. H5 though was more exciting though, more unforgiving If a few skills/effects had been toned down it would have been JUST right.

Nail on the head....H5 was more unforgiving....like sending your green dragons across in first turn and killing a whole stack of enemy....now in H6 battles take longer and it's sometimes not beneficial to focus on killing shooters first anymore, as they too cannot affect the game too much with one shot....I remember in H5 duel map that my marksmen went before hunters and it made a significant impact, it's the unpredictability that was great...

Would any of the insiders be able to clarify whether this is part of this DLC or is "adventure pack" meaning something else (once can always hope)?

From Facebook:
"Hello Heroes,

The map “A Princess of VARN”, contained in this Adventure Pack for Might & Magic Heroes VI, takes place shortly after the events of Legends of Might & Magic.

Penelope has been rescued from the Necromancers, but discovers things have taken a turn for the worse during her captivity. Her father, King Alamar, is dead, and his former vassals are now battling to conquer the throne. And the cabal of the Necromancers, which engineered the whole situation, is still up to no good.
Penelope will have to take arms to restore her kingdom and reclaim the Mandate of Heaven. Hopefully, she'll succeed in it...

Do you remember when Varn was first intriduced to a Might&Magic game?"

Legends of Might and Magic was a FPS game done by New World Computing and 3DO in 2001. I'm not sure this adventure pack has anything to do with Heroes VI does it? It's nothing to do with Ashan and the timeline/storyline mentioned above.

The map is an hommage to the heritage of the game - as is Crag Hack, obviously - and part of the pack.

I'm generally no friend of French vocabulary or their spelling of multi-language words, and would have preffered a simple "tribute" but in ths case it seemed strangely fitting.

One word.
One creature.
One legend!

Thunderbird! At MMFanday Ubi hinted that Thunderbird is native "bird" on pirate's islands . New neutral?

The unpredictability lead to players losing or winning with the same army against the opponent based on whose killer stack acted first. I don't think it was good. Reduced some battles to a coin toss.

I'm not against unpredictability, but HoMM V went way overboard with the impact of the first turn. it was pretty much decisive, and decisive things shouldn't be a coin toss, imho.

I'd expect the Thunderbird either to be the boss of the DLC Campaign, or to be reduced to a plot-macguffin; given that it is no Neutral, which makes sense lorewise it's supposed to be unique. I sincerely hope it's not turned into a simple plot-macguffin.

TECHNICALLY it's neither, and that's because you... have somewhat low expectations...

Are you implying that the Thunderbird is going to have a great roll in the DLC campaign?

I think, it's safe to say that if the T-Bird is no new neutral - which it isn't -, the beast can't possibly be something else than a Boss creature.
However, (and that's the technical aspect with the way you phrased it)...
