Age of Empires Online
So, does anyone else play this?
I've started a few days ago. It's essentially free to play. But you can buy Empire points to get all the premium content(you can get it via play, but it takes a lot longer). Currently I play Celts and Greeks (both Premium). Anyone have specific thoughts?
Anyone interested in some friendly trade?

Steam say I got 203 hours on the game so that should tell you how much I love it. I got all the premium content and AoEO is definitly a worthy AoE game. The only real downsides are that you must use Games for Windows - LIVE, which is gay... and that premium content was really expensive in real money last time I checked. Nowadays you can as previously written earn Empire points to buy premium content and I bought mine during a super awesome Steam sale. I REALLY recommend RTS/AoE lovers to at least try it out because it is not just another game.
A few new cool things in AoEO:
- Equipment
- Tech tree
- Crafting
- Capitol city building
- Lots of fun quests with rewards
- TF2 looking graphics
- Very co-op friendly
If you do not mind who you play with then I would be happy to play.

It's true, Games for Windows Live is a bit of a bother, but not that big a deal to me.
And GunFred is right that the game is a hoot-'n-a-half.
But I'm not realy interested in Co-op or PvP play, to be honest. There is a quest where you have to visit a friend's Capitol which I am keen to finish and I am interested in trade(via mail).
So far my Celtic Capitol is lvl 13 and my Greek one is 7. I am interested in Crafting stuff. Mostly because I misunderstood how it worked in the beginning. Now my Celts are stuck with Religious and Engineer Metalwork crafts. I'm compensating with my Greeks who now have Infantry and Cavalry crafting.

In the upper left corner(ingame) there is a party invite button and there you can see the names of your friends and to the right of every name is a button which gives a few options. Select View Empire and then select a city to visit. Once in the friends city there should be an ambassador with a quest. Unless you already got a friend with a city in your server I recommend transfering your Empire to Abydos where I hang around. The quest reward is pretty weak but quick and redo-able.

Both play and advice, but mainly trade and advice. But it makes some sense that I couldn't see you since I'm on the Athens server. I'm on Abydos now too.

GunFred, do you have any advice on the Greek Quest Reclaiming the Throne? I have difficulty getting my economy going, on account of the constant raids and I have a lot of trouble beating the raids because of the economy and the starting army you get being designed for siege.

Was a long time since I did this quest but I recommend using your starting army to hold the enemy while you spam villagers in the beginning to quickly reach age 3 and once there you focus all resources on infantry and priests.
If you do this succesfully then you should be able to hold on and sooner or later reach age 4 (if you are level 15 that is) where you can get ballista to crush all siege towers while advancing.
If there are suitable locations, walls might help concentrating the enemy so that you do not have to divide your infantry.
If I helped you through co-op then this quest would be easier done than said but I understand if you would rather beat it yourself.

There is a cool thing on Steam right now but you got only around 15 hours left when I write this so hurry if your interested. It costs only 2,49 euro on Steam right now.

I just got it. Also I managed to finish the quest I asked about. Mainly through spamming villagers in the beginning as you said and bandit mercs. Thanks.

Exellent and I am glad my advice helped if only a little. I usually start most of my games with village spamming but unfortunatly bots like to rush and harrass me.

Yeah, I know. I usually turtle, so if the AI starts rushing me too early for my convenience, that can give some problems.

After it's unfortunate shut-down roughly a year and a half ago, it seems now, things are looking up again for this game.

Whoa this is good news! I've been itching to play this since I got into African kingdoms for Aoe 2. It's a shame the game was abandoned, I really liked it. The inventory system for units was awesome.
