"Well, that was...."

Tristan shrugged, then left the guild. It didn't take too long to catch up with the orcs. Out of curiosity, he checked his pack, finding a book. He gave the first few pages a glance. He wasn't too sure what they meant. He put the book away, and readied his mace and shield.

Mat sighed, walking after them. Of course we are going to go off and fight the things we know nothing about, Mat assumed that his companions were as in the dark about what a "Dragonfly" was as him, seeing as they hadn't known about anything else either so far, without gathering some real information about what we are going up against. He kept his complaints to himself though, no need to get the big green guy mad. Or or more mad, as the case might be.

As he walked, the one-eyed man slung his staff over his shoulders, lazily acting as if everything was alright. Subconsciously, he shifted his body ever so slightly to make sure he still had all of his concealed knives on him. They might be needed where he was going...

Guild Group:

You head north to the swamps; the vegetation is thick and the smell typical of the terrain, and in addition the party occasionally sees scorch marks on the trees.

Not long after entering you hear an overloud buzzing sound, but the swamp vegetation conceals sight of the creatures until they're within mere strides of you. Vaguely snake-like, bright green, and with the wings of insect dragonflies, they average about the length of a human arm and are a little thicker around than a broomstick handle. They curl and swoop unpredictably in the air, insect eyes guiding them to anything shiny, but a careful count reveals seven of them—two of them larger and more yellow than their fellows. ((Upon entering combat, the party will discover that the two big ones spit small gouts of fire.))

((Difficulty-wise, this'll be a high 1 or a low 2.))

Grog was happy that Mat had some knives on him and he already had a plan on how to kill the dragonflies: "Great, you have the knives! You'll throw them at the big ones and don't forget to kill them with your first throw."

Grog turned to Broïndur and Tristan: "When the rest of the Dragonflies come at us, they'll be angry and they'll bite us. Judging by their size, they would strike our arms, so we better dodge them if you wish to weild those weapons with ease."

"Which'll leave yer man with a pointy stick, no offense mate. Besides, have ye ever tried knifethrowing birds out o' the air? No matter how good he may be, chances are he'll miss."
Broïndur shook his head and faced the Dragonflies with a grim look.
"Nay, the way I see it, the only way we'll get a reasonable swing at 'em when they start coming fer us. And 'cause they be flying critter, those swings will only be half as effective 'cause we'll basicly just be swatting at 'em. But when they come fer us, we might be able to pluck them out o' the air and twist their heads of like they were chickens. But ye'll need te keep yer eyes peeled, they be fast."

It was one of those "I made a good plan, but it won't work in this situation" moment for Grog.

"As far as I can see, we're better off catching them, than slicing them. We catch them, we snap their necks. The only problem is that the're faster than us and they'll likely dodge."

Grog thought for a moment and remembered something: "Does anyone know the Slow spell?"

Tristan was a little surprised at the size of these creatures. Sure, they were told a fair amount of information about them, but seeing them was different. He saw the green-skinned one looking at him, when he asked the question.

"The name is Tristan. I am not a cleric. I am a...well, not a cleric. And I do not know of any spells. Now, as far as those flies go, perhaps we could hinder them by striking at their wings. Ground them."

Mat juggled both knives, staring critically at the insects. "I could hit one of them... but I'd say our big green friend here is right. We should have them flying at us." He caught both of his weapons and smiled. "It's much harder to dodge when you are running straight into the pointy metal objects."

When the creatures came at them, Broïndur started. But he also noticed that the body-swap had not slowed his reflexes as his hand went imediately to his weapon and shield. Consciously not bothering with his axe, he only grabbed his shield and brought it up.
In doing so he nearly knocked one of the Dragonflies upside the head, if it had not veered away at the last second.
Unfortunately for the creature it brought itself withing grabbing distance and Broïndur's free hand managed to snatch it by the tail-end. The snake-like thing curved its body round, trying to bite that what had its tail. Broïndur had more-or-less counted on it doing so and swung his shield to try to cut it with the jagged shard at the bottom. He missed, he had miscalculated the things speed and caused the Dragonfly to bite into the woodof the shield.
The bite into metal had jarred the thing and Broïndur let go of the tail and moved quickly to grab it just under the head. And grip his Orc hands did firmly.
Now the tail was free, the creature started whipping it around, trying to wrestle itself free and/or whip Broïndur in the process. Broïndur ignored it and with the creatures teeth still embedded in his shield, he wrenched the shield his shield so the creatures neck would twist. With a sickeningly moist crunch, you could hear the neck of the Dragonfly being broken and it's thrashing grew still in seconds.

Grog rose up from the muddy ground. The smell wasn't really pleasant and the buzzing from the Dragonflies was irritating to everyone.

"That's for knocking me down, you little freak!", shouted Grog after slicing a flying serpent in half.

There were two more coming at him, but he was ready this time. As the first one approached, Grog put his sword right in front of it's face resulting in a bloody shower for Grog. The other one was two seconds late and that gave Grog time to catch it with his hand. The Dragonfly moved it's tail around trying to release itself, but to no success - Grog managed to bring it to the ground and step on it's head causing it to burst.

Tristan raised his shield in defense when the first dragonfly attacked. Nothing was coming directly at him at the time, but it was better to be safe than sorry. He looked around, seeing the new positioning of the flies.

A couple of the dragonflies took notice of Tristan’s movement, one coming after him. Tristan gripped his mace firmly, and jabbed at the creature. It struck, but the creature was unfazed by the strike. The creature drew its head back, and then sent it toward Tristan’s hand. Tristan drew back just in time.

“Oh, right. Not a sword.”

The creature tried to bite Tristan again, but only got his shield. Tristan moved the shield away, and swung his mace at the fly. The mace struck, and the creature looked dazed. The one that held back opened its mouth, and soon a shot of fire shot out. Tristan jumped out of the way, landing in shallow swamp water, and the fire hit some of the swamp’s plant life. A small sizzle is heard.

“Well, we were told, but I was not sure I quite believed it.”

By the time Tristan finished that last sentence, the fly he had been fighting recovered from the blow it received, and was coming after Tristan once more. Tristan remembered something within the book he was looking through, and had a very strong urge to do something with it.

The dragonfly was coming at him, mouth wide open, and Tristan cast…something. The creature’s eyes rolled back, and it fell, ending up lying in Tristan’s lap. He grabbed the thing, and tossed it away. He wasn’t sure if it was alive or dead, but he didn’t want to find out with it being where it landed.

“Well, I guess I do know some magic.”

Tristan rose from the swamp water, only to get a bit of that water dealt with by a bit of heat from another shot of fire from the same one that tried to strike him before. The time, it managed to hit him in the back, just under his shield arm’s shoulder.

Mat cursed as his knife landed in the water with a "Plop." Hands moving fast enough to blur, the one-eyed warrior grabbed the creature by the top of its head, holding its jaw  and the top of its head together. Its tail wiped out, slapping uselessly against Mat's chest as he struggled to hold it still. "Bloody snakes..." He muttered before shoving his remaining dagger into the soft part of the creature's jaw, puncturing the back of its head with the blade tip. It thrashed wildly until he pulled the dagger out of its nervous system, and Mat threw the dagger at a big one, the one that happened to be distracted by Tristan at the moment, before grabbing his staff. "Alright then... fast little buggers you may be, but you aren't as fast as the gholam..."
