Broïndur was tense, these men might very well attack him at moments notice. However were he to move his hands towards his axe and shield, the looters might see it as a provocation.
Instead he simply furrowed his brow further, as much as that was possible. "Nay."

Koto and Broïndur:

The other party seems to have noted your lack of weapons in hand—and the fact that you're not going for them—as well, because Brent motions to them and they relax, more or less.

"I believe you. But that being the case, I should warn you Sal and his gang are farther in, and they're a very rough group. Be careful if you're going any deeper."

Broïndur gave an audible grunt and turned round. He was confident that these looters would not attack him. This supposed Sal and his group were a hurdle he, and Koto, would take when they got there.
Broïndur went into the room to which he had forced entry. The gloom was even thicker here and it took a moment to get adjusted to it. Orcs saw reasonably in the dark, it would seem, but Broindur was used to dwarven vision. Dwarves could make due with very little light, much less than Orcs it appeared.
This room contained several crates and barrels but none of them appeared to have any markings Broïndur could make out. For the sounds of it, the other looters were rummaging through the contents of their room. It was as good an idea as any. On good luck, Broindur selected a crate and tried to open it.
It was nailed shut it would appear. He tried to get his fingernails, which were of considerable length, between the crack but this failed as well.
"Then I'll smash it open," Broïndur muttered to himself.
So he unsheathed his axe and took a good swing at the lid of the crate. The lid shattered and splinters and slivers of wood flew round. Given the state the wood appeared to be in, Broïndur reconned he could have smashed the lid open with his fist as wel, but it was too late for that.
Broindur peered into the crate, but there it was finally too dark to make out what was what. Broïndur grunted in dissapointment. But perhaps Koto could see well enough.
"Koto," Broïndur called out, for when the torch of the other looters went into the other room he had lost track of the gnome-thing's possition. "Get yerself in here and be usefull or go find us a torch. It's darker than Brewmaster Hettuyf's Autum Stout in here."

"Thanks for the warning." smilingly Koto walked out into the light of the adventurers. He made a show of making the two daggers he had in his hands disappear. He then followed Broïndur.

"Koto, get yerself in here and be useful or go find us a torch. It's darker than Brewmaster Hettuyf's Autum Stout in here."

"So you have problems seeing in the dark now?" Koto could still make out the orc standing over the crate clearly as day "Well then, I'll peer into this crate and then we'll see if we can find you a torch." Koto said as he climbed up the edge of the crate and looked down.

((KI may say what's in the crate))

Broïndur and Koto:

((Crates etc. are fine; this floor is mostly storage.))

One of the looters stays by the door to keep an eye on you, the rest go back to their searching. Looking around the room, Koto spies an old lantern sitting on a crate with a candle stuck in it. No way to light it is in evidence, however.

Inside the remains of the crate you find a lot of what looks like it used to be cloth—clothing perhaps. Now most of it is so ruined by mildew it isn't even fit for rags, but you do manage to salvage a (slightly smelly) human-sized cloak. Its continued existence and recognizability are a testament to the skill of the tanner that crafted it, but sadly it's still in a rather disreputable state after being neglected for so long. Definitely not formal wear.

You also find a couple of mushrooms ((2)) growing in the wood of the crate that don't smell poisonous.

Mat made a drawn out "Hmm" and sheathed one knife so that he could pick up his staff and walked in, listening for the sound of any buzzing. He quickly recovered his necklace (which would have been a bit too big for any of these little guys to swallow without choking to death) and cut off the 'fly's head, adding it to his collection. He also made sure to kick the dead guy before he looked around for anything that could help him get to the next floor (since the stairwell is all burned and everything).

It looks, like their planned backfired... literally and now they needed to find a new way upstairs. But Rincewind couldn't think of that at this very moment. He was looking at the body in front of him. He was directly responsible for killing a human being and that did not happen a lot. Something had to be done with the body of this poor cretin. And being born and raised in the streets of Ankh-Morpork Rincweind knew exactly what it was. He knelled down in front of the body and started going through his pockets.

Mat and Rincewind:

Mat's examination of the room turns up little of use: there are charred beams protruding out of the walls where the stairs used to be, but they crumble at a touch. The walls, while not perfectly smooth, are sufficiently devoid of handholds as to make climbing impractical unless you happened to be a spider. The framework of metal holding the lighthouse beacon up is not a solid piece, and it would probably be possible to tie a rope around a section and climb up...if you could get up there in the first place.

Rincewind obtains 74 gold pieces off the belt pouch of the corpse. Sadly the man's bow is snapped in three places after the fall, but his quiver has a few arrows that aren't broken ((8 total)). The leather armor he wears might be salvageable, and the boots definitely are; fine black leather and in good repair, too. Likewise the bracers on his arms. And around one finger is a gold ring that looks...brighter, somehow, when Rincewind handles it, although the impression is fleeting. The man had also been carrying a few potions, but these are glass shards now.

((Thursday and no sign of B-E-T-A, so here you are.))

Broïndur and Koto:

Smashing through the room, Broïndur finds a few possibly-useful items among the rotted junk: a coil of rope that seems to be in reasonable condition, three boots of varying sizes ((two left, one right)) that haven't been utterly ruined, three glass wine bottles that are still intact (though missing corks), a couple bracelets ((one copper, one brass)) and a ring ((also brass)) in another crate of ruined clothes, a root with a bluish tinge ((another Phirma Root)) growing out of a third crate, and a dead rat. The barrels are mostly empty except for the rat, and smell like they used to contain alcohol but it's long since evaporated, drained out through damage to the barrel, or (in once case) spoiled past the point of drinkability.

Koto meanwhile is successful in begging a light off the other adventurers. He returns with the now-lit lantern and reports his findings: the pointy-eared individual does indeed have a bow, though it doesn't look to be anything special. It's also at least temporarily out of reach as their sentry has a sharp eye on the two of you.

Broïndur and Koto devided the findings they found in the smashed crates amongst the two of them. They kept the rope, as such things always came in handy. Broïndur kept the brass braclet and ring, giving the copper bracelet and the plain copper ring Broïndur pulled out of a dead Dragonfly ealier to Koto. None of the boots fit either Broïndur or Koto, but they decided to keep them anyway. The same went for the bottles, as much as they could not come up with an immediate use for them, they could always be sold later. Broïndur would keep the boots with him, Koto the bottles into one of which he decided to stuff the root. They decided to leave the dead rat be.
Broïndur was slightly disappointed that the Elf did not carry a longbow with him, but he reminded Koto to keep an eye on these fellows nonetheless. The Elf might know how to spot a longbow of his kinds make and where others might be found.
"Right then, we better see what's next door. Maybe we'll get more lucky there." Broïndur said as he got out of the huddle he and Koto had been sitting in.
Without hesitation he went to the room next to the one they had scoured. Not bothering to check the make of the door, assuming it was in an equal deplorable state, he simple janked the door. Not assuming wrong, Broïndur tore the door clean off it's hinges. Discarding the door into the far corner of the hallway, Broïndur noted that this room again contained trunks and crates.
"Let's see what's in here." Broíndur said more to himself than anything else. as he tore the lid of the first trunk.

“Well then, I suppose I will…”

Jason interrupted Tristan’s spoken thoughts with another swing of his sword. Tristan backed away from the blade, barely getting an inch between it, and his throat. Tristan let out a deep sigh, turned, and ran. He reached the bridge, and gave a glace over his shoulder. Quickly, he fell to the ground, a blade going over his head, cutting off a small bit of Tristan’s new hair. Tristan followed the fall into a roll, which was lucky for him, as Jason followed his own action with another swing at the ground. Tristan was a little surprised at the speed at which Jason was moving. So much so, that when he rose from the roll, he almost fell over the side of the bridge. A few loose bricks, however, splash into the water below.

“Wow. That’s some… never mind.”

Tristan darted off again, running between a couple houses, and turned as he heard a grunt from behind. He rose his shield as Jason’s sword came smashing down upon it. Tristan staggered back from the impact, but was able to remain vertical due to the fact that Jason’s sword got stuck in his shield, and he was not letting go. Both me yanked their equipment back at the same time, easily freeing the sword from the shield. Tristan moved his shield arm and fingers around. That hurt, even if he did block it.

“I guess I will have to fight you after all. At least defend.”

Jason grinned at Tristan, and took a few steps forward, readying for another swing. Tristan tightened his grip on his mace, and took a sword-fighting stance. Jason either didn’t notice, or just didn’t care. He took a swing at Tristan’s midsection. Tristan managed to deflect the swing, though it was a sloppy form of deflection. Jason’s next target was Tristan’s weapon arm, but Tristan managed to deflect that one too. It was far sloppier than the first, but it happened to be far more effective too. Jason struck once more, going for Tristan’s ribs, but changed his target as he knew Tristan would, and did, attempt another deflection. Jason went for the mace instead, knocking the weapon from Tristan’s hand. Its heavy head seemed to make it a simpler task than most other weapons, he thought. He quickly stepped between Tristan and the weapon. Tristan shook his fingers, due to the force applied to them from the forced weapon loss. These fingers were not having a good day.

“Rah! That really hurt!”

Jason laughed a little, stepping forward, sure to not allow Tristan the opportunity to get his weapon back in hand. Tristan stepped back, and looked around. To his right, there was absolutely no help, just a bunch of water. To his left, there were buildings. Those wouldn’t be of any help either. Houses and…what appeared to be a blacksmith, if he saw correctly when he left the ship. He took another small step back from the approaching man, eyed the mace, and then made an attempt at acting like he was going to dive for it. It worked, as Jason swung his sword at where he thought Tristan would be, but only found dirt. Tristan gladly took the opportunity presented to him, and ran around the south side of the blacksmith, and turning towards its front. He almost lost his balance with the speed he was going, but was soon able to run in the entrance. He scanned the present assortment of weapons on display as he heard Jason calling out, “Where are you!?” He found the sword selection, and gave them a look through. The smith was looking him over, noticing that Tristan seemed a bit antsy. Tristan heard the door slam open, and took the finest sword of the collection he could see.

“Found you! I thought you’d end up here, trying to get a replacement for that clumsy weapon you were using out there. And you chose a sword! A fine choice, but it will not help you,” Jason said walking across the floor, knocking over whatever should be in his way.

“Excuse me, but I need to borrow this for a while,” Tristan spoke to the blacksmith, not really expecting approval, or anything from the man. He prepared for the attack that was sure to come.

Jason sent his sword slashing toward Tristan’s face, but it was easily parried away. He then slashed at Tristan’s left shoulder. Tristan didn’t even bother blocking with his shield, and parried the sword away with his own. A few more attacks from Jason, with each receiving the same result. Jason was starting to get angry at the redhead. He struck once more with his weapon, but followed through with a tackle. Tristan parried the blow, and saw the following attack in time to sidestep the man, but Jason managed to take hold of Tristan’s shield as he was going by, taking him along for the trip. Both men fell to the floor, however Jason crashed into an axe display prior to, knocking a couple down. One landed harmlessly on its side between the two men. The other was heading blade-first toward Jason’s skull. He took a firm grip on the shield he brought with him, and used it to prevent said skull from being split in two. The shield, however, was not so lucky. It split down the majority of the wood, and was barely able to hold itself together, especially with the axe still wedged in. It had just lost its functionality as a shield. Another hit from almost any weapon would break it apart.

“Lucky you,” Tristan said to Jason, who almost looked shocked at what luck he actually just had. At least he seemed so for a second or so, anyway. They both rose to their feet, Tristan slightly quicker. Tristan unstrapped his shield and tossed it Jason. Jason took a step back, catching the shield, and almost backed into the axes again. Jason tossed the shield to the floor, the force of which sending the axe deeper through, and finally having it fall into two pieces. The distraction was enough for Tristan to have left the blacksmith door swaying.

Outside once more, Tristan looked around, trying to find somewhere else to stall the man while the authorities made their leisurely way around to help in a lawful manner. The inn may have been a decent enough place to hide, but there may be people within that would love to join in with this Jason fellow. The other buildings seemed to be houses. They would be of no help. He then noticed the churchy building down to path. He recalled people seeking asylum in such buildings from where he was from. He wasn’t sure they would be able to do much in this situation, but it was worth a shot. He ran toward the building.

As he was running off, Jason emerged from the blacksmith, almost seething. He easily spotted the redhead running along the path, and he started running behind. Tristan made every attempt to avoid running into people, but Jason knocked anyone that was in his way to the ground. Tristan eventually made it to the temple doors, and reached for the handle. Jason took hold of a hammer he swiped from the blacksmith, and threw it at Tristan. Tristan got the handle to the point the door would open, and then received a heavy thump to the back of his head. The door swung open, and Tristan took a nap.

Broïndur and Koto:

You break into the room across from Brent and his gang and are immediately assaulted by a strong insectile smell. You begin looking through crates of more rotted clothes and old food before noticing there's a promisingly-intact—and obviously locked—box in the far left corner, but a scrabbling noise nearby prompts a closer look; Koto's sharp eyes pick out a hole in the wall just beyond it.

----------------

Tristan:

You awake an uncertain amount of time later to feel the floor rocking gently under you. A quick stock of your surroundings tells you you're in a cramped room with no furnishings, bars across the front in place of a wall, and a liveried guard just outside. It's musty and the lighting is bad—there are no windows you can see, but the industrious noises above you suggest it's daytime.

Jason is snoozing next to you, and neither of you have much on you except the clothes on your back ((no weapons etc...)). Beyond that your injuries have been tended and you're obviously still alive. You do find a fine steel chain—rather like a bracelet—around your wrist that hadn't been there before; from it hangs a steel charm with a tiny griffin on one side. On closer inspection, Jason has one as well.
