Mat linked in surprise. I lost? That was new. But oh well, even he didn't always win, so round two it was. He plucked off his rather fancy ring and inspected it. The silver ravens stared at him accusingly, so instead may chose his other ring, which was also silver but had some small gemstones instead. He put the raven one back on. "Alright, round two then..."

((I'll chose 3))

Bowie looked at the scribe. Judging by his looks he couldn't be lying about the Dragonflies.

Fandral:

You go tumbling down the well, splashing brandy and landing in water. Never a dry moment, it seems. You can hear muffled laughter echo down from the people who saw you fall in.

----------------

Tristan, Broïndur, Bowie and Rincewind:

"If there's a bounty on these flies, I might want to take care of that. But what is stopping us from finishing the hunt in one day?"

"Nothing I suppose; if you have the skill to manage it it will merely be a very short contest."

"A Dragonfly? What sort of a creature is that?"

"They're Dragonflies," the scribe repeats, as though the name should mean something. "Or Serpentflies, I suppose. Snake-like creatures with wings. The swamps north of here are prime breeding grounds for them I'm afraid."

"They are having trouble with dragonflies? Well, that is an unexpected job mention. Alright, where is this guild, and who would we speak with?"

The scribe points. "Out the door and to your left. Ask for Gina Flametouch, and tell them you're there about the Dragonflies or they won't let you in unless you're already a member of the Guild."

"Are the Dragonflies dangerous monsters? Is reward for killing them good?"

"I don't know, why don't you go ask?"

----------------

Mat:

((Roll = 2))

This time you lose your ring to the Dwarf on your left. He chortles as he scoops the small pile of winnings onto his side of the table and calls for the bartender to bring him another drink.

Fandral:

You wake up facing a plain stone ceiling after your very vivid hallucination. The woman tending you tells you you were found passed out drunk not far from the docks, and warns you not to hit the alcohol quite so hard next time—apparently the brandy you received has some extra side effects besides getting you drunk, or perhaps it's merely an individual reaction—allergies, or something like.

By now, Mat had run out of things that he was truly willing to part with. Odd, that this should actually happen to him... "Hmmm... I think I might be out, friends. I am unable to part with my various weapons and spear, and unwilling to lose my hat. So, I must bid you..." He tipped the aforementioned hat to the dwarves and stood up, "a good day. Pleasure meeting you and light's blessing on you." Maybe he should just do something else... Now the "What" was the question.

So Mat sat around by the well, looking for something that didn't sound like work to come along when he heard tell of some vermin "Dragon flies" that needed exterminating from one of someone near bye. Why someone would want to get rid of such colorful insects Mat hadn't the slightest clue... but it sounded easy. "Hello friends." He said to the townspeople talking about it in a cheerful voice, "I couldn't help overhearing that you have a problem with some 'Dragon-flies.' I'm wondering if I could be of assistance and who I should talk to to take care of them."

Bowie was suprised to hear that Dragonflies are much like serpents, only with wings.

"Hmm... that shouldn't be very hard to deal with. I'm going to check on the guild.", Bowie said to himself.

He turned to the scribe again: "Sign me up. I'm going to participate in the scavenger hunt."

"Aye, sign me up as well." Broïndur looked around at his fellows. "And while we are at it, we might as well sign ourselves up as a group. We stand a greater chance together then alone. Did anyone catch the names of our friends from the ship?"
Broïndur noticed the script the scribe wrote in was strange to him, but even stranger was that he could still read it.
"Right, those lads up for a fight come with me to this guild and we'll see what the deal is with these dragonflies. Those who ain't go to the pub where our friends'll be and inform them that we've signed them up for the hunt."

The first thing Koto felt and thought when he woke up was that he felt weird. His sight was bad and he was unable to make his own body move, except for the fact that his body was moving, but not on Koto's command! Then he realized he had breathing problems as well! At first, Koto thought that he and his friends had been ambushed during the night, and that he was now being dragged away by the enemy, bound and gagged. But then it dawned upon him, "I'm submerged in water!" but before he could really contemplate more on this fact, he heard the gushing of the water and felt that he was lifted out of it.

Only now, did Koto realize just how little air he had left, as his body was desperately inhaling the fresh air, which it quickly lost again as he was thrown onto the grond. A bit dazeled, Koto instinctively tried to throw himself away when he felt a hand take his shoulder, but to his own surprise he did not manage much more than to wriggle a bit before being turned around to stare into someones face.

"Oy! What are you doin' out here?" the voice shouted

Koto now took the time to look at the owner of the hand, noting that it belonged to an old gigantic-sized man, who stinked of fish...or maybe the stench was caused by Koto himself rather than the old man. As Koto just now noting that he was laying in a pile of fish. "Odd!" Koto thought "This man is to old to have ambushed us, and he seems as puzzled as me at why I was thrown in the river.".

"Well that depends on what river this is." Koto anwsered.

Rincewind promptly walked out of the Town Hall and gladly headed towards the inn. He finally found an easy way to earn some money - let someone else do it for you. On his way there he noticed one of his companions near the well - the fellow with only one eye.

"Hello there. Listen, we sort of took a vote... or something of the sort, and decided that we should all stick together for now. So the guys signed us all in for the treasure hunt. The two grin-skinned fellas and the one with the red hair went to get us some money. I told them we'd wait at the pub. I think we're only missing one man. Did you see him? The one who stayed back to swab the deck."

Mat gave Rincewind an appraising look. "Actually, I was just talking to some blue robed people in pointy hats about the problem of which you speak, and I think that I might just join our companions in their extermination quest." He waved goodbye to Rincewind as he began walking towards the guild, "I will see you later, friend." He called back.

When he was at the guild, Mat saw three of his companions already standing at the entrance. He walked over to join the group and cheerfully called, "Glad I caught up to you guys!"

Group members at the Town Hall:

The scribe takes your names, asks that you confirm that you are here of your own free will and not at the behest of any other party and blah blah blah after a lot more in that vein he records your names and informs you that you are now officially contestants in Lord Markham's scavenger hunt, and to come back at noon for the official opening speech and the list of items you'll be searching for.

((Events after the party splits occur below.))

----------------

Mat:

You pass by one of your fellows from the ship who seems to be trying to get your attention and attach yourself to the group headed for the guild. The doorguard interrupts before you get an answer.

----------------

Group members who go to the Guild:

"Thank you...Sir. What was your name? So we can tell them who sent us."

"Ichabod. Most folk around here call me 'Penscratcher.'"

((At the Guild...))

"Good enough." The doorguard turns his head towards the Guild interior and calls, "Gina! Some adventurers are here about the pest problem."

He opens the door and lets your group in, motioning for you to stay near the entrance. The interior is surprisingly open and pleasantly cool, with a low section in the center made of polished stone carved with mystic designs. A set of pedestals hold the four corners of this, each topped by a bowl: one containing water, one containing soil, another burning with musky incense and a fourth that appears to be empty. Oil lamps light the room, and three doors are set into the walls. From the last emerges a woman with aristocratic poise in her early-to-mid thirties with mousey brown hair in a severe braid down her back.

The woman—presumably Gina—looks you over briefly before speaking.

"You don't look like much, but I suppose you'll do. You've already heard about our problem so I'll be brief: our Guild is offering a bounty on Dragonflies. We'll give you 50 gold pieces for the head of each Dragonfly you bring in. You look rather inexperienced so I'll give you fair warning: they have a magic-dampening bite and some of the more mature specimens breath fire." She seems to consider something for a moment before apparently deciding she has no reason not to continue. "And while we won't come get you out of trouble if you get in over your heads, I will tell you we are offering a secondary reward if you manage to kill the Queen of the local hive and spare us having to go through this again once she hatches a few more broods."

----------------

Fandral:

The woman names a "Lord Markham" as the hunt's overseer, and points you in the direction of the Town Hall if you're interested. In the process she accidentally (?) bumps into the small shrine's offering box.

Upon leaving, you spot one of your fellows from the ship nearby.

----------------

Koto:

The old man blinks at you, apparently having trouble understanding the question. "What river? 'Sa bloody island."

----------------

Rincewind:

Rincewind notices the aforementioned deck-swabber coming out of the town's small shrine. The one-eyed man seems not to notice you as he passes right by without the least sign of acknowledgment.

Rincewind stood near the well in shock that the one-eyed man just passed by him without paying Rincewind any attention. Usually, Rincewind would love not getting attention, but this time he was talking to the man! As he was standing there, following the man ith his gaze he heard a voice from behind.

"Are you alright, friend?"

Rincewind turned around and saw that the voice belonged to the last person he was looking for.

"Do you think maybe that the loss of an eye causes hearing problems as well?"

"I have not heard of such an ailment. Why do you ask?" Fandral looked puzzled. Then again, Rincewind was the same man who had a neurotic fit on the ship. Who knew what to expect of him?

"Oh, no reason... Anyway, I was looking for you. You see, our other companions signed us all up for the scavenger hunt. We're all to be in the Town Hall at noon for the opening speech. Three of them went to get us some money at the guild. I saw the fourth one heading in their direction as well. I told them we'd wait in the pub until they return."

Rincewind vaguely remembered that the man in front of him bragged about his adventures and decided that telling him about the Dragonflies will only get him in trouble.
