Noob question

What difficulty do y'all play?

Just came back after a long break due to disappointment. Townscreens are up, game seems more stable and crashes less often though it still freezes during campaign. But I'm getting kicked by the AI on normal difficulty with added resources for myself. Always run out of wood and crystal and the computer just builds so damn fast and their heroes gain levels faster too.

I play normal and the game is rather easy, I think you just have to get used to the game thats all. I even have the feeling the game is even easier on higher dificulties, but I have not tried that since Patch 1,5 came out (the higher dificulties).

You just have to remember that holding your ground is a death sentence. and you need to expand fast.

I've mostly played on normal with some modifications (higher growth, aggressive AI) and I don't find it very hard.

The most important thing is resource management. You have to carefully plan what you want to build and not waste resources. My tip is to early on decide on a what buildings you want to prioritize. Say you play Sanctuary. Then your first goal might be to get Coral Maidens ASAP and then go for Kenshi. Obviously, if you have like tons of wood, ore and gold, you build stuff using those resources while waiting for crystals to pile up.

Also beware that it costs like 5000 gold and some resources in order to get a second hero. I usually get a second hero in the first week, but only after I've gathered some additional gold. Otherwise you could get absolutely resource-crippled during the first week.

When buying a hero, pick a hero with a good passive skill, such as increased unit or resource production.

Early on, you should always pick gold instead of experience.
Also, focus on getting mines and resources before fighting neutrals that guard like power-ups.

I see. So it's back to Heroes 2 style eh. Conquer and expand.

I play Haven mostly. Any tips on build order?

I would probably focus on getting Vestals for the heal and Crossbowmen for ranged damage. Sentinels aren't a priority. They deal low damage and the Vestal heal + your hero and the racial skill should be sufficient to keep your troops alive early in the game.

The Blazing Glory is one of the most OP creatures in the game, so you should try to get those. The Glory and Vestal also provide good CC, use the racial skill shield on the Vestals.

I think Angels are kinda weak and something that you can skip.
