King in Yellow - Questions

Grail quest:

I've digged out whole chess field but grail was not found. Except clue that is grail near the centre of the map is there any other?

King in Yellow:

For his name, I should find the yellow sign which is nowhere to be found. I've googled Marcus quotes, but at no avail because none answer I found is correct. Where should I look at?

Any guidelines wil be helpful.

Draker, first you dont seem to ask with respect for the author of this map!

Second, you should ask yourself, what rules apply for a chess board when its right down square is white colour.

Third, when you ready, you can visit the demons and post the result.

Masterlearn, I think two points should be written here:

First, HoMM players tends to have a purely "Heroes" approach for any map, which is understandable. So when I see a chess board and read jump, my first thought is that I will be teleported. As I know Jim's capabilities to script, I know also I will be confronted to some difficult puzzle, so I automatically eliminate the most obvious solutions, which may be wrong in a few situations.

Secondly, I myself realized that what seemed to me obvious in my maps was not for others, thus the complete guides I wrote for TEW III, Alexander and 300 spartans. I wish every mapmaker would act the same way, because it saves frustration and time.

And third point (of top as every third point): I don't see lack of respect from Draker's side. But overprotection from your, Jim got an angel to take care of?

@Draker, here is the solution. Start from hole, dig on numbers following chess horse jump pattern so you can return on the cross. Then dig on cross, grail is there.

Okay, you want spoilers - you get spoilers.
The Yellow Sign is in the city of demons, but be sure Bron is really tough and you also have that wonderful armor of wizard hat stealer and tough genie too before going there. The hammer is also a fine stuff in this case.

It seems I just didn't read the name of artefact I already got from killing demons.
I've suceeded in finding grail and now Yellow King riddle is only thing which remains.

@JimV
You've done great job when you made djinies card games.

Draker, I am sorry that I didn't see your post until now (I have been watching the Olympics on TV).

Thank you for trying the map.  The more comments I get, the more I learn, and maybe my next map (if any) will be better.  Two things I learned from your comments:

1) My clues can be difficult to interpret, especially if the map is played by people who don't use English every day.  I liked my clues for the grail, with the double-meaning of Knight (as in, a Knight of the Round Table, or a chess-piece), but if a person did not know those two meanings of the word, it would be very difficult to understand.  Perhaps I should add some other message during the game which explains that a Knight is a chess piece, which has a move like a hook.

2) I think I need more messages which point out that an important goal has been accomplished, such as when you get the Yellow Sign, there should be a message showing it, rather than just adding the artifact to the Hero.

Speaking of card games (thank you for your comment), did you try the Black Jack game at the casino next to the lake, north of Anacreon?

Oh, and if you have more questions you can always email me at the address in the README.

Update:  I have uploaded these changes at https://www.box.com/s/877639740775a758a20f -

I have added this random message:

Bron meets a young person puzzling over a chessboard, who asks him, "Sir, could you explain how to move this piece which looks like a horse?  I think it is called a Knight."

And this message, which shows the Yellow Sign artifact:

!!IF:Q1/8/81/1^Bron has obtained the Yellow Sign!^;

As well as similar displays for Aly of Brayton and the Hammer of the Sun.

To get these changes, if you have installed the mod using Bersy's .exe file, download just the script file, "king in yellow.erm" and place it in Mods/King In Yellow/Data/s.

If you have installed the mod using my original zip file from Box.com, download the zip file, and extract just the map file, FantMap1.h3m, from and into Mods/King In Yellow/Maps.

I played Black Jack and anti-reload system works even when I kill h3era.exe process. Answer for the final riddle... Is it mentioned in game or at least where should I look at?

JimV gave these clues in Era mods thread:

The clues are:

1) What a mad man tells you early in the game - the former Phd Cosmologist.

2) What the Oracle says when you go to the Temple of Wisdom with the Yellow Sign equipped.

3) What Cassilda says at Carcosa.

4) What the King in Yellow says about the arrow of time.  What prevents time from going backwards instead of forward (according to the cosmologist Dr. Sean Carroll)?

Thanks for listing those, M_L.  So far, two people whom I know of (M_L and Bethel) have figured out the final riddle before I added the Oracle clue, and one (Spatiphillum) after.  There may be others who thought the riddle was too easy to mention, but maybe I need more/better clues.  It is a difficult philosophical question:  when is a riddle too easy, and when is it too hard?

When someone is having trouble with a game quest and contacts me about it, my first approach is to give more clues, because I want people to have the satisfaction of figuring out answers, but eventually I can be worn down enough to give a direct answer.  I will never start that way, though, because I wouldn't want that for myself.  Also, a long time ago in a class I didn't understand the assigned problem and asked the professor to explain it to me after the class.  He simply told me, "Think about it some more.  I know you can do it."  And he was right.  Sometimes all it takes is more confidence.

The Blackjack game is done in a way that requires some of the WoG 3.59 ERM commands which Era provides.  The rest of the game could have been done in WoG 3.58f (but the installation would not have been as convenient as with Era).  I think these days casinos will only pay 1.5 times your bet for blackjack and five cards under 21, but I wanted to make the odds more even.  Even with that, it is difficult to win 10,000 gold in a day, so the game has convinced me not to be a gambler.

I've found the answer.

What are exactly bonuses from dungeon towns?

Heroes 3 determines the final score depending on the difficulty level, whether the Grail has been found, whether all enemies have been defeated, how many game days have elapsed, and how many Towns the player has.  So the more bonuses a player wins, the higher the game score will be.  I used the same method in "The Swords of Night and Day".

P.S. Congratulations on the victory!
