Skyrim, the RP (IC)

Jarl Ulfric of Windhelm has killed the High King Torygg. Some say that Ulfric shouted him to death in honor of ancient Nord traditions. Others say that Ulfric murdered Torygg in cold blood. Whatever the case may be, the province of Skyrim is upon the brink of civil war. As the Eastern holds flock to Ulfric's Stormcloak army, the Imperial Legion and the Western holds stand fast with the Empire. The Aldmeri Dominion has made its presence known in Skyrim, enforcing the ban of Talos with Thalmor agents. Being heavily weakened by Jarl Ulfric's actions in the Markarth Incident, the Forsworn regroup themselves and plan to take back the Reach. Within the ancient Dwemer realm of Blackreach, the once powerful Falmer civilization, now dissolved into hordes of savages, plot their return by taking advantage of the ensuing chaos above and rising up with such force that all of Tamriel would feel its effects for centuries to come.

Hadvar and Ralof glared at each other from across the table in the Sleeping Giant, the inn and tavern in the town of Riverwood. Once the best of friends, the two young men were now separated by belief and allegiance.
"So, you're to be another one of the Thalmor's pawns, is that it?" asked Ralof as he drank another gulp of mead.
Hadvar sighed and replied, "I'm not working for the Thalmor, Ralof. I'm joining the Legion."
"Sounds a lot like the same thing to me."
"We can't afford to be split apart at a time like this. We have to stand united, or we all WILL be the Thalmor's pawns."
Ralof shook his head and stood up. "Well you have made your choice and I have made mine."
Hadvar furrowed his brow. "What do you mean? You aren't seriously considering joining that rabble of Stormcloaks?"
"I've done more than consider it. I am proud to serve as a true son of Skyrim, unlike you!"
Hadvar jumped up from his seat. Ralof clenched his fists, readying himself for a fight, when a large man came through and separated the two with his massive arms.
"Let's not get carried away here, boys." said the man in his deep voice. "We wouldn't want to make a mess of ourselves in Delphine's honorable establishment, would we?"
"He's not worth it, anyways." muttered Ralof as strode away angrily.
Hadvar went back to his table and his tankard of mead.
"Thanks, Morn." said the innkeeper, Delphine, to the large man. "I didn't want to handle that myself. This whole issue has created a rift within all of the province."
"Move it, elf!" Ralof barked on his way out the door as he shoved his way past a cloaked man.
"And within others it seems." continued Delphine with a sad look on her face as she walked back to the bar table.
"That boy hasn't been causing you trouble, has he?" said Morn to the cloaked elf.
The man smiled and said, "No. Lately, I've gotten used to this sort of treatment here. Thank you for your concern, however."
"It's not often that we get elves here. The only one around Riverwood is Faendal, and he quite usually keeps to himself."
"How interesting." replied the cloaked stranger with a yawn. "If I may, could you point me to the owner of this establishment?"
Morn nodded and pointed to Delphine.
"Thank you." The elf walked over to the hostess and said. "My lady, if you could be so kind, may I make an announcement to the patrons of the tavern? Oh, and some wine? West Weald, if you have it."
"Sure." replied Delphine as she pulled out a dusty bottle from below the bar. "And that'll be fifteen Septims."
The elf handed Delphine the money and took the bottle. He then glanced at her hip and noticed something odd: an Akaviri dagger.
He then gestured for her to come closer. As she bent her head forward, a hand automatically strayed to the dagger's hilt.
"If you want to stay anonymous, then you may want to replace that fancy looking piece of weaponry with something a bit more mundane." he whispered to her ear.
Delphine's eyes widened as she gulped. She then responded, "How do you know?"
"It's not hard to see if you look for it."
"Who are you?"
"I am no one of any importance, but if you must know, my name is Drystan Vercingetorix. I am a friend."

Noxa pushed her way into the Sleeping Giant, followed by a swirl of outdoor air. The smell of food reminded her strongly that her last meal had been several hours prior, but seeing the landlady was in conversation she seated herself nearby instead, to rest her weary feet.

Snow. Why did these nords love it so much? Yuan-ta had seen more than enough of it in his lifetime, and yet there was always more, no matter where he went. "'Go to Skyrim!' they said," Yu muttered under his breath, "'Adventure and glory await you!' they said." Honestly, Yu sometimes suspected that his parents just wanted him out of the house. Maybe he shouldn't have burned the drapes down, but that had been an accident, completely unavoidable! No reason to send him out into this...

He was glad that it wasn't snowing here... not now, at least. Yu would probably have done something stupid if it had been. As it is, he instead came into the tavern right behind that Imperial girl and took a nice spot that no one glared at him from. Yu did not note the tension in the air, he thought that it must be normal for these people since they apparently lived in winter 9/10ths of the year. That kind of weather would do something to even the sanest of men, let me tell you...

Morn noticed Delphine busy with the Imperial as the Argonian came in.
"More travelers? You all picked a bad time to visit Skyrim." He thought to himself as he looked around for Orgnar, the bartender.
Unable to find his brother, Morn decided to take up the job himself temporarily.
"Greetings, friend! Welcome to the Sleeping Giant!" said Morn to Yuan-Ta with a cheerful grin. "Anything I can get you?"

...That will show them not to mess with an Orc... Pompous brats... They just leave the horses there for the night, every night, and they expect me not to take one or two? I needed them, dammit! How the heck else could I have gotten word of our plight out in time? But no, that friggin' stableboy just had to stroll by right then... Alerting the guards like those rickety-kneed mama's boys could hope to stop me...'You have committed crimes against Skyrim and her people!'... Is it a crime to put the tribe's needs in front of mine? Of course it isn't, insolent wretch!... Killing him for asking might have been a bit rash, though... After all, it brought down the full 'farce' of Riften's guards on me... Cowards, the lot of 'em... 50 against one, and they cheered when they overpowered me in the end... Hauled me off to jail without a trial, they did... Took my stuff too, thrice damn them... Even the letter... Burned that out of spite, the gloating dimwits... Don't they realize that all of us are in mortal peril? Who's gonna believe me now, I ask?... Max-sec prison my ass, the bars practically bent themselves... Took care of the nancies on patrol just fine, they did... Yielded me this shiny new equipment...Now, for the hard part. How the heck can I get my task done?I can't return to Largashbur, Yamarz would have me for breakfast if he ever heard what happened, the letter's gone, I've been wandering for weeks in this overambitious frozen piece of Skeever dung of a land, and I got exactly nothing to show for it, save a pair of frozen horse carcasses... Time to have another drink, I guess.

Muttering to himself, and keeping his head down, a throughly dismayed Bhob entered the Sleeping Giant, too tired to note the name of yet another inn anymore, scuttled over to a table in the corner... just to curse loudly as he remembered that the few septims he managed to get his hands on turned to ale days ago, back in the last tavern.

Oh well, at least I'm out of that bloody cold...

Yu shook his hand and head. "No, no. I am merely here to escape the slow, freezing death you people call 'Summer.'" The Argonian's left eye twitched slightly. This northern country did not amuse him.

"Good evening and welcome to the Sleeping Giant inn. Would you want a room and some food?"

"Yes, please," Noxa told the landlady. She bargained with the blonde woman for a few moments before paying for her room and dinner, noting to herself that she was either going to have to sell some of her raw materials soon or find some work.

Afterwards Noxa received her food with sincere thanks, and while she ate she casually observed the other patrons who had entered while she paid for her meal. Being just a traveler through town herself, she could hardly judge for certain, but it seemed it would be a busy night for the Sleeping Giant and Noxa wondered what had brought so many people to this small settlement.

Morn chuckled and replied, "Ha! This is the warm part of Skyrim too! Just wait until you visit the Pale! Enjoy your stay!"
Morn then walked back to his seat, still wondering where Orgnar would have gone off to.

Meanwhile, Delphine went to greet the Orc. "Hello, welcome to the Sleeping Giant. Something I can get you?"

Drystan noticed the sudden increase in the amount of patrons in the tavern. As he finished his wine, he observed the people there. The new travelers were not natives, and carried some sort of weaponry or another. The Imperial was sitting at a table just across from his looking rather tired and confused. Drystan walked over to her and said, "New to Skyrim, I take it?"

Drystan shrugged. "Travelers always seem tired, and the ones that are new to places are almost always confused. You get used to the pattern after a while."
Drystan pulled up a chair beside Noxa and sat down. "So what brings you to this dreary troubled country?"

Yu sat back, really rather glad to be warm now, and inspected his claws as if they were the absolute most interesting thing in the world. To be honest, he was somewhat bored. Not a single thing beyond this one wolf had tried to fight him, and the animal hadn't even been worth drawing the Argonian's blade. Truth be told, the mangy mutt probably hadn't been worth his claws or jaws either... and the taste of its blood had been rather bitter, as if the wolf had eaten nothing but mice and the stray cat for months.

This place really wasn't all that it was cracked up to be.

'Huh? Wha'? Oh, Sleeping Giant, ha-ha, what a delightful little joke. -Bhob snorted sarcastically- 'I take it you've heard of me, then?  Blabbering Bhob at your service, Ma'am! Literally. Do You need any odd job done in exchange for which you could provide me with refreshment and lodging for the remainder of the night?'

Yu heard the fabled word, 'work,' and instantly turned his head to the speaker. Unfortunately, she was preoccupied with another man at the moment, but she had most definitely said the word. He wondered if she might need some... protection in this freezing hellhole. She was an imperial after all, she didn't have claws or scales to help her fight off wild animals.

Delphine chuckled and said, "I'm not sure that I can provide any sort of work, but that man over there, Drystan. He's the sort that would have some work for you. If you're lucky, he'll even pay you some in advance."

Drystan grinned and replied to Noxa, "So a miner? A blacksmith? Maybe just a connoisseur in metals? You wouldn't want to go stomping about the country with no protection, and no idea of what sort of work you can actually get here, especially in these confusing times. I am about to make an announcement to the people of the tavern involving a little job that I have in mind for the warriors, sellswords, travelers, and adventurers within the place. You may be interested in joining my little expedition."

With that, Drystan moved away to a clear space within the tavern, and motioned for the local bard to stop playing "Ragnar the Red" again.

"May I please have everyone's attention!" Drystan shouted above the hubbub of the room. They quieted and looked at Drystan with confused, hopeful, and sometimes suspicious eyes. "I am Drystan, and I have a proposal for those in need of work, adventure, and perhaps some challenge. My line of work does involve a bit of fighting and a lot of danger, but should you be interested, come see me at my table, and we'll talk."

Drystan then walked back to his table as the tavern got louder again. Morn was interested. He juggled the idea around in his head, but couldn't make a fast decision, so he went to Delphine.

"Delphine, I was thinking...maybe I should go along with this man's quest?" Morn asked as he scratched his head.
Delphine raised and eyebrow and said, "Are you sure, Morn? I'd imagine this is a bit different than your previous mercenary work."
"I understand, but I've been stuck in this tavern for too long as I get old and fat! I need to do something!"
"Well if you really feel that way, I suppose you could. Just try not to die or anything."
Morn laughed. "Ha! Of course I won't, Delphine. You keep yourself well too."
"Kind of hard not to in this town."

The doors of the inn suddenly opened wide, and a great shadowy figure clad in fur entered; his heavy boots thudding on the wooden floor as he did so. After slamming the door shut, he proceeded to warm himself by the fire, and claimed a nearby chair to rest on. After removing the crudely crafted fur cloak, Septimus' fine silk garments were revealed; as he removed his hood, his bright golden face shun in the fire's light, as did his long and fair hair, (braided). His eyes were covered by a velvet ribbon, though it was apparent that he was blind, his acute senses were sharp enough so that he need not rely on anything, save for his trusty walking stick for balance and direction, and a carefully concealed silk-blade, for situations that his hands couldn't handle.

Septimus thought that he'd sit and make himself comfortable, (briefly) before inquiring about food and lodging. (also he wanted to get a feel of his surrounding)

Noxa decided to finish her meal and see who looked interested before committing herself to something so vague. It was true she was not much of a fighter—she had gotten this far by joining caravans and keeping her head down mostly. But while she was a jeweler by trade, she knew how to make and repair other things and adventurous types often needed their armor mended or their swords sharpened. She could probably make a little coin that way, but only if it was a fair sized group.

Delphine replied, "I'm not the one to talk to."
She pointed at Drystan. "Talk to him. He's the one offering the job. It does sound rather vague, but I don't think this man is a con. There seems to be more to him than what is shown, and believe me, I know when someone has that certain quality to them. Also, the money he paid me with were very recently minted. It is possible that he got directly from the Empire's Treasuries. Wherever you find that, there's always going to be more of it somewhere."
