Well, it was worth a try. I certainly have no other viable alternatives at the moment, so I might as well check out that Drystan dude.

Bhob clambered over to Drystan. 'What exactly do You have in mind, and what would be in it for me?'

Drystan pulled out his map of Skyrim and spread it out across the table. "I am working for an organization that is trying to find plans, schematics, and working examples of Dwemer technology."
He pointed to several locations on the map. "We have already pinpointed the best locations to search for them, which tend to center around the Reach, the Pale, and the Rift, but we'll start off by going to Whiterun first, getting more appropriate supplies, and then head off to the Reach and Markarth. Your job will likely be protecting the group, and fighting off the various enemies that would cross our paths. Many of these Dwemer ruins still have many of their creations guarding the place, some Falmer may be there too. Maybe some bandits are roaming the area. Who knows? We'll find all sorts of interesting things. As for pay, you'll receive a certain amount of pay up front and a whole lot more when we're finished. But don't forget that some things you can pick up in these ruins may be worth a lot more than what we can pay you. Upfront is two hundred septims each. The after pay is two thousand septims each. So, what do you say?"

Yu nodded his thanks. Maybe the cold had been affecting him more than the Argonian thought. (code for, I was up too late last night and derped on the names. XD) He walked over to the table as Drystan rambled off what they would be doing.

"Hmm... That sounds fair enough. When do we begin?"

"Tomorrow morning. We'll head to Whiterun, get some additional supplies, horses, and meet with my contact there." replied Drystan. He looked at Yu's broadsword and said, "That looks like it could come in handy. I assume you know how to use it? I'd rather not spend the money on a walking corpse. The orc looks very strong, and his swords still have dried blood on them, so I don't think that he needs to vouch for himself. Oh, and please don't use the opportunity to demonstrate by attacking someone. That's happened to me before. It was not pretty."

Yuan-Ta patted the hilt of his blade. "Yes, I know how to use this... but I won't waste it on something that isn't worthy of my family blade." Curling and uncurling his claws, Yu smiled, revealing some rather sharp teeth. "I haven't found much that I needed to use my blade against." The only thing he had encountered had been pathetic, so that wasn't a lie...

Drystan raised his eyebrows. "Family blade? I find that Argonians tend not to pass down hereditary objects much. Particularly weapons. That seems to be more of a Nord tradition funnily enough. Perhaps you'll fit in well with them here. At any rate you certainly seem confident enough. Welcome to the team."

Morn had been listening in a corner nearby. He stepped forward and said, "I'll go. I've had enough of staying around here in stagnation. I was a mercenary, then did some freelancing work, and now this. Hope you'll have me."

Drystan nodded and replied, "As you wish. Welcome."

Let's be honest here. If I couldn't convince anyone in weeks of trying that the Giants are a growing threat to us all, I probably won't do so anytime soon. I failed my task. Time to go off seeking a good death... which I will certainly find sooner rather than later if I'm to fool around in Dwemer ruins for weeks. Plus, 200 septims should buy me a generous amount of ale before the end.

'Sign me up, whelp' Bhob grunted, and proceeded to buy some ale and hot, spicy soup, which he consumed in record time.

Noxa listened in as she finished off the rest of her food. She had to admit, she was intrigued. Dwemer metals were supposed to be good, better than steel, and the Dwemer themselves had been fine craftsmen. She might be able to pick up knowledge she could use in her smithing, or even some scraps of metal she could melt down and use. Plus the mer—Drystan hadn't he said his name was? —had attracted a large enough group that even if the whole adventure lead to nothing but rats and empty caves she could probably make some coin sharpening swords and fixing armor for the duration. She might even find a place to establish a forge, when she got the coin; she certainly couldn't stay here in Riverwood, they already had a smith and the town wasn't big enough to need two.

Realizing her mind was already made up, Noxa stood and went over to talk to Drystan. "I'll join if you'll have me; I'm not much of a fighter but I can repair armor and weapons."

Drystan shook his head at the Orc and then turned to Noxa. "Excellent! I'm certain that you would be a valuable addition to our group. A skilled metalworker would be great for this particular expedition. Get a good night's rest. We set out tomorrow morning at sunrise."

"It would seem so," Noxa agreed, feeling oddly pleased to be able to say so. Was this what adventuring felt like? Perhaps it was only the thought of coin coming in; it was always worrying when the septims ran low.

Yu nodded, seeming pleased. "Well then... do you think you will be able to craft anything during our adventure? This cloth is good for warmth on a good, sunny day..." It was worthless if the sunshine wasn't directly on him... damned but this place was too cold! "But worthless in combat. My scales are better than this garbage..." Which was completely true, and proven by both his brothers and some wild animals. "Some real armor would be nice... I'll be willing to pay for some that would fit me, if you ever get a chance to make a suit."

"I don't think that will be a problem, although I'll have to pick up some supplies first." She hadn't had a big store of metal to begin with, and what she'd had had been lost along with one of the wagons of the last caravan crossing the mountains into Skyrim.

Morn said to Drystan, "If we're all going to Whiterun at the bloody crack of dawn, we should get some sleep soon."
"Yes. Now, in fact." replied Drystan as he tossed a coin at Delphine and walked into his room.

Drystan locked the door, got ready for bed, and slept soundly with a dagger in one hand and another under his pillow.

((gnomes, any objection to being in two places at once? Then we can finish our conversation and berny can get the plot moving.))

"That probably isn't a bad thing, from our employer's perspective," Noxa pointed out, trying to be consoling. She didn't enjoy violence herself, preferring to avoid it where possible.

((Later...))

After her conversation with Yu, Noxa retired to the room she'd paid for with dinner. She hid her valuables near her person, but otherwise slept unconcerned, trusting the inn's walls to protect her.

"I've never understood why you people like to avoid adventure... how can you test yourself if you don't seek a challenge? And adventure is an excellent way to prove yourself!" Yu sat down in a chair next to hers and leaned back. "Oh, and stability might just bore me to death, so I, for one, do hope that something will happen."

After he finished talking to Noxa, Yu laid down against the wall by the fire and rested rather warmly.
