Fear.

In my life I have made many plans, but only one great one. Conquering fear was among the lesser ones, but still a keystone.

I noticed that humanity is kept in-line by fear, rather than want or need, instead of self-discipline, we have laws and regulations, and codes of conduct under the threat of punishment for breaking them. Even something trivial such as smoking comes under fear, the reason people don't smoke nowadays is that it can cause cancer and eventually death, id est fear of death. I don't smoke because I have no need for it, but I realize its potential to have a positive impact on people's lives. Having fear pacified in my heart, would greatly aid my goal, and I hope to be a worthy example.

So my objective along my long road is to conquer fear, every chance I got in the past year , I've been audacious and brave in every situation, (mostly trivial cases, but it all adds up in the end) and I seek more, I want to be afraid so that I can overcome it, almost a thirst for fear now. Which is ironic, the more I'm afraid, the bolder I become. My lust for it grows each day, and my objective already seems far easier then when i first embarked on it.

I'm not foolhardy, or without fear, but I sense that it might appear so to those around me, I should've set out a personal 'moral code' before embarking on this venture, because it is starting to change my personality, and without a stable anchorage, I may be swept away.

Which kind of fear?

Quote:

When you are in the right place and time, you will discover the real fear.

I may be swept away.

Its important to know what exactly will sweep you,in order to be prepared for it.

My experience shows there are many kinds of fear.
For example:
1.Good fear.
2.Bad fear.
3.Stopping fear.
4.Strong fear.
5.Unnecessary fear.
6.Real fear.
7.Fear,concerning space
and others...

Good fear-you know that if you put your hand in fire,it will burn,so you are afraid to put it in fire.

Bad fear-you are occupied in fear about something so much that you dont see the real dangers around you.

Stopping fear-you see the red light and you fear to cross the street.

Strong fear-when you realize you are deep in trouble and there is no way back.

Unnecessary fear-when you lack info about something and when you learn about it,the fear stops.

Real fear-when you know your life is in danger.

Fear, concerning space-when you fear to be alone in a room.

Other examples-will provide if necessary.

oh yeah, but you don't even need that to keep most people in-line (and the remaining ones might not even be possible to keep in-line). the simple fact to think that others may be looking at you, and judging and condemning is enough. of course by having a set of laws, you know what they are supposed to look for.

I am not so sure that facing your fears directly is as good as the movies imply. I once had a talk with a psychologist and he said that there are certain phobias that will simply not go away if you try to force them, only understanding them might help. Unfortunately I don not remember what phobias he was talking about, whether they were about traumatic experiences or phobias you develop in your childhood. I have also heard the philosophical approach that if you try to force your fears, they burrow deeper into you, you become less conscious about them and they control your actions subconsciously. Unfortunately I cannot verify that for myself, I haven't done that amount of soulsearching Food for thought anyway.

My own fears left me sometime after primary school, except one that I discovered along the way. I fear jumping with my head first, even if it's diving from 2 meters. Not sure if I still have it as it's been a while but chances are it's still there. The only fears I had before that were of what may exist in the dark(heh ) and standing on the edge of great heights. The former was especially nasty as when the lights went out before I went to sleep, the ugly or scary images I had seen during the day would rush through my mind. I even used to cover my eyes ^^

Fear of jumping head first is a given, the ground is often too hard to come out without injuries.

Diving referred to water. Besides I'm cool with diving head down to the ground, I can roll with it
