Pandora's Box is my hands-down favorite map in H3 of all time (excluding custom maps which I haven't played). I stumbled onto the scenario completely by accident, being drawn to the Greek mythology theme. It was very richly themed (you play as Zeus, Ares, Apollo, Athena or Aphrodite), and full of excellent map design (an accurate map of Greece--though one city, Aethiopia, shouldn't be in Greece). Also had some excellent restrictions (can't hire heroes, can only free them from prisons--and all of them are real mythological heroes).

There is also some excellent writing in there with lots of sex, revenge, gore, justice and crafts (if Athena) and love. Along with some interesting sidestories about the Prince of Thieves (Autolycus) and the demons from the underworld draining the gods' power. Great, great stuff. Most maps don't bother with the writing, and just focus on the map. This one does almost everything excellently (except for the odd typo like "Mount Olypus" instead of "Olympus" for example). My favorite bit was near the end of the scenario where the Game Designers approach you and hilarity ensues (for example, they ask you, if you play as Aphrodite, how good you are in bed. If you are Apollo, you help them make music properly. Etc).

Also I play unholy quest every now and then (you can only chose player 1 and have 1 enemy, mission defeat his hero)

For HoMM2: Broken Alliance - map from the demo, that is quite hard.

There is a very good remake of this map in HoMM3 - and the map is still very playable. The balance of this map comes from the fact that enemies attack you fast from all directions, there is a purple computer walking around the map with few Titans + the map is build around actual balance, not to look good. (also it looks good, e.g. the Dungeon town in the middle of the map where you can only recruit dragons and get gold)

My 2nd favorite map is called Misja and is for HOMM3. I don't think it is known much. In that map you start with 1 behemot and you need to pass through a very cleverly done map, where you battle multiple armies and need to solve "puzzles" to pass through different gates. The map is hard, but not impossible to pass (when compared to those "new style" maps that rely on abusing bugs or berserk combo)

my brother made the top voted map for H4, it is a RPG story map with hundreds of quests and events.

Anyways...

as other said, for the memories, my favourite non-made by myself map is All for One. Maybe just trough repetition, but it feels so organic and familiar. Everything is where it should be and the geography is very memorable. I think I still design maps with "tropes" mostly cued by All for One. Including strange isolated islands, mountain passages, central volcanoes with losts of gold, castles appropiate to their surroundings, self-contained areas, etc.
Faction choice, lots of replayability, single or multiplayer possibiluty...

Have you made some maps for H4? M-size online balanced for 2-4 players. We are looking for something new.
