@Xerox, we never discussed the technology segment, but I think that the scientific way to create the undead didn't exist in the Middle Ages.
1. What do the runes do in general?
Give special abilities to people
OR
Increase the magic capabilities
OR
Protect from various magic (protection depends on the type of the rune)
OR
A better idea by you
Choose more than one if you want.
2. What is the magic mainly focused on?
Helping
OR
Destruction
3. Do the Light and Dark magic exist?

1. Utility .. ie can be helpful, harmful, or even mundane things like magically do dishes. They are expensive, but since they are carved, are permanent.
2. Both (see above)
3. Yes. Runes may be neutral, but not all magic is. Dark forces abound, and can only be fought by the forces of light.

1. What types of magic exist in the world?
2. Do the magical barriers exist and if they do, who can create them?
3. Mythril - does it exist?
4. Is there anything that can negate magic and if there is, what is it?
