Halloween Havoc (IC)

For time uncountable, the Organization has kept the forces of Malbozia and his demon army in check.  Finally through great loss and sacrifice they managed to bind Malbozia exactly 100 years ago.  Sadly, with the loss of Malbozia and the demons, humans turned on the monsters.  Books came out, painting them as horrible things..and they were hounded and hunted until they were forced underground.

Eventually they found a spell that would allow them to pass as human, but when in human form they had all the vulnerabilities of a human.  They could get sick, even die from disease.  Still they did live a lot longer and healthier lives then humans.  The truly legend among them even had children, and passed on their legacy.

Thing grew quiet, people forgot..thinking the monsters and demons only legend....

Marven walked through town, rubbing at his contacts which were itching terribly. The things gave his eyes a nice blue tint, but were almost more trouble than they were worth lately. Maybe these people could explain why his eyes were itching lately along with what the hell was going on with his body. He wanted to be able to have a pet someday, and while the super healing wasn't unwanted it was still freaky as snow. Marven looked at his letter and tried to compare the directions on it to the town around him. Arriving at what he assumed was the right place, the not-quite-human pushed upon the shed door and looked inside what appeared to be a rental shop barn.

"Hello? Anyone here?" He called out, thinking that this was probably still a stupid idea.

"No." Comes a voice from the dark.  "I am just a figment of your imagination." Into the light steps a man.  He is wearing a Fedora, a black T-Shirt, a long black trench coat, and black slacks.  A bullwhip is at his side.  "You might want to take a seat Maven." He indicates a chair off to the side.  "You are in for a bumpy ride."

He then sits and explains everything to Maven, the Organization, and what Maven is.  Knowing that Maven will find it difficult to swallow..he calls out another man..very ordinary looking.  "There are those who understand about .. changing.  My friend here is one of them.  Cain...if you will?" The figure starts ... changing..and growing.  Hair sprouts from him, his mouth and nose elongates, his arms also elongate.  Soon a werewolf is where the other man used to be.

"And now .. he runs" chuckles the first figure.

"Jesus God!" Marven exclaims, knocking his chair over as he attempts to get the hell away. "W-what... you people are freaks! I'm nothing like that! I just- I don't get killed and I can't pet animals and... Jesus Christ, HE'S A GOD DAMNED WEREWOLF!" What Marvin didn't notice was that while he was rambling on his facial structure and body had been changing to that of a teenager, a scared snowless teenager, I might add. "Another thing, why in all of the hells would I VOLUNTEER to fight God damned DEMONS?! And you still haven't explained why this is happening to me!"

"Volunteer, don't volunteer." Shrugs the figure in black.  "The demons will come for you regardless.  Then, you will be all by yourself.  With us, you stand a fighting chance."

The werewolf nods "As to why this is happening to you, it is in your blood.  Even now.." he holds up a mirror, "you change.  As my friend here said.  It does not matter that you do not want to fight demons.  They want to kill everybody, and claim this world as their own."

Man in black "We have little time. Midnight approaches.  Then, you will know..all of us will have absolutely no doubt." He shivers.

Midnight..Halloween. The clock strikes midnight. Somewhere in the world, a sarcophagus trembles, cracks, then breaks in a fiery explosion. The earth shudders as if revulsed, and the wind screams as if in pain. Two red glowing eyes can be seen, then .. nothing.

Elsewhere regardless where they are ((With the exception of Ben and Maven)), or what they are doing..several legendary monsters..and their descendants are brought to a stop. They can sense something wrong. Something foul is in the air. From the sky (or ceiling whichever is the case) a note drops to your feet..a scarlet letter O on its outside. Inside a time, a place, and a strange symbol that can not be made out. Without having to be told, you know you must be there..that there are great and terrible things afoot..that the fate of all may henge on what transpires there...

Jack strolled down the street humming to himself.

This is Halloween, this is Halloween.
Pumpkins scream in the dead of night.

This is Halloween, everybody make a scene.
Trick or treat 'till the neighbors gonna die of fright.

He was wearing his human disguise as he wanted to enjoy the costumes of others before he delves into the wonderful world of scaring people. His cane gave off a dim glow as if it was filled with glee as much as he was. Halloween was without doubt Jack's favorite night of the year. It was for most "monsters". The ability to walk around in their true form, as long as they could pass it for a very convincing costume, felt liberating. Jack walked around the corner into a dark alley. He was just about to change into his true form when something happened. He had this strange feeling that things are not as they supposed to be. Then a note dropped down on him from the sky. Jack looked up, but there was no one there. He picked up the note and turned it in his hands. There was a big scarlet letter 'O' on it. Jack shuddered. He knew what that meant of course. But why? There were details of the meeting inside. A meeting he had to attend. He knew he had no real choice in the matter. Jack Jackson sighed. Why did it have to happen on Halloween?.. whatever it was.

The Nothingness

Rosina sat on her barstool as the music started playing. Her eyes were closed, her thoughts were elsewhere, but she had done this so many times she could probably even have done it in her sleep. She was dressed in a white evening gown ending just at the tip of her feet, she practically had the men drooling over her, but thanks to the security at the place she was safe from grabby hands. The manager nodded for her to begin, something he didn't really need to do anymore but was more of a tradition.

"You had plenty money, 1922
You let other women make a fool of you
Why don't you do right, like some other men do?
Get out of here and get me some money too

You're sittin' there and wonderin' what it's all about
You ain't got no money, they will put you out
Why don't you do right, like some other men do?
Get out of here and get me some...

A letter dropped from the ceiling, falling into her lap and making her lose her concentration and her voice to falter a bit. The letter had a large scarlet O on it, and she felt as if her stomach knotted. Why would they contact her? They never contacted her, she was of no use to them apparently, so they had left her alone for as long as she could remember. Who was in charge? She shook her head slightly, not remembering, this was her life now. She was past the entire Organization-thing.
Unfortunately there were no choice, if you were summoned you had to appear. It was your obligation, your job, as one of the legendary creatures.
She looked over at the manager, who were turning scarlet by the second and looked as if he might explode with anger. The crowd in the bar had all stopped talking, all eyes were on her now. Why had she stopped singing? They watched her rise and hurry over to the manager.

"I am sorry, Bob." She said, her voice was low and soothing, making him calmer immediately. "I have to go, there's something I have to do."

"You can't go Roxanne, these people here paid to see you. If you leave I'm gonna have a riot on my hands." Bob exclaimed, growing furious again. "I don't want a riot on my hands, so you keep singing. That is what you are paid to do!"

She shook her head. "Not tonight I am afraid, I will see you later."

He grew almost purple, looking as if he were choking on something. "If you leave then you never come back here!"

She cocked her head. "Then I never come back here." she replied, her expression non-changing, and she left through the crowd.

The day before Halloween

Absent minded, Ben stirred the cream through his coffee. He was wearing his best suit and he was sitting in his grandfather's Milwaukee house. He was the first to arrive It was strange. Only several hours earlier, they had burried Gunther Rudolph von Lunsberg sr. Yet as his father and uncle had confirmed, the traditional "coffee" and cigars would go on, as it would ever.  Granddad would have wanted it that way, it did so when his father and grandfather had died. Ben had left the luncheon early. Not because the grief overwhelmed him. He did grieve. But there was some important business to be conducted, some that could not wait. Using a large part of his personal capital, Ben had bought the majority in cousin "Henry"'s microbrewery. Suffice to say it had to do with that.
Coffee was a misnomer. Yes, the first drink would be coffee. The second would be an "Austrian Coffee", sugared coffee with Schnapps. After that the first stein of beer would end up on the table and then the second...
It was a family-tradition where the men of the family would talk. About virtually everything. Family matters mostly, but politics, the country's economy and the world situation would cross the table at some point. Not that the Von Lunsbergs were running things behind the scenes, but they had some pull here and there.

Ben's father, "Leo", and uncle, Gunther jr., came into the drawing room. Gunther went straight to the liquor cabinet and poured out 3 shots of Schnapps and passed them round. Leo raised his and Gunther and Ben followed suit.
"To Grandpa!" All three saluted the late family patriach and downed the shot.
The sat back down and Ben took a sip of his cooling coffee. His father and uncle were staring at him, he started to feel uncomfortable.
"When are Henry and Joe coming?" Ben asked.
"They aren't", Uncle Gunther replied, "This concerns you specifically and Grandpa."
"So this isn't usual Coffee and Cigars, then?" Ben asked.
"No." Ben's father replied. "Do you know the tale of the Headless Horseman?"
"Sure, Grandpa used to tell us grandkids that story all the time. It's his favorite story. Why?"
"Do you know why he told that story so often?" (dad)
"It's his favorite, like I said. And I assumed he was going a bit daft. He was 103 afterall when he died. Why?"
"Aunt Katie noticed yesterday that you had a black birthmark on the back of your neck."(uncle)
"Realy, that's never been there before."
"That's cause it isn't a birthmark."(uncle)
"It's necrosis."(dad)
Ben, who had been sipping his coffee throughout, did a spittake, spraying coffee over his suit.
"Here's the deal," Ben's dad said, "the Headless Horseman isn't just a story. It's the truth. It's a curse that has run through our family since the American Revolution."
"Hold on.." Ben protested, "We're not Hessian. The Von Lunsbergs are from Brunswick."
"We know, it's the Americans that don't. All German Mercenaries that fought in the war, regardless of side or origin, were called Hessians. Fact remains that Adelbert Reinhardt von Lunsberg was the first Headless Horseman and we are his descendants." (uncle)
"Ever since then, the son and hier to the family has become the new Incarnation of the Headless Horseman when the previous one passes away." (father)
"We, that is us two and Grandpa, had always thought that either Leo or me would be the next one, since we're twins. And Grandpa has prepared us for it. But it seems the curse hasn't passed to us. It passed to you. Meaning that you are now the Headless Horseman."
"That's complete bullsh1t." Ben replied in a mixture of anger and panic. "For one, I still have a head."
In reply, his father stood up and took a swing, not even a hard one, at Ben's temple. With a stomach churning sound, Ben's head tore off of his neck and bounded across the drawingroom.
Ben saw his head tear off and fly and bounce. His sences still registered from somewhere above his neck, despite being decapitated. In his reflection in the glass of the liquor cabinet, he saw that all that was left of his neck was a horrible fleshwound. He saw that his coffee stained suit had turned into the dark roccoco uniform of a cavalier as would have been worn during the Revolutionary War. Slowly but surely, from the neckwound grew a lit Jack-o'-lantern and Ben noticed his senses roughly coincided with the facial features of the pumpkin. He took the pumpkin off his neck and noticed that his senses were now transferred to the gourd. He saw whereever he turned the eyes of the fruit, he spoke from it's mouth etc.
Ben's father, had since picked up Ben's original head, and with a wet sound, not alltogether pleasant, jammed it back on the neck.
From his reflection, Ben saw that he had returned to his original shape, coffee stained suit and all. Though a black line of Necrosis remained where head had come off.
"You, ehhh...., may want to wrap a scarf or something around that "wound" from now on." Uncle Gunther, perhaps superfluously, said.

That night, Gunther and Leo taught Ben all they could in one night of what their father had taught them about the Headless Horseman. Mostly focussing on practical matters. However they did mention "The Organisation" and that Ben should expect them to contact him soon.
Very Soon.

Halloween
That Halloween, Ben noticed the sliver of paper flying from his paperwork, for he had been working late into the night. Al the note contained was a 0, that seemed to be written in blood. The same sliver contained a note of a place and a time. Somewhere Ben could manage to be, albeit barely, if he left now. And of what his father and uncle had told him, he knew that he had no other choice but to do such.

Marven touched his face, fingers trembling, and closed his eyes. He had learned how to change back rather well by this point, even if he never really learned how control his other transformations. His hands were still shaking as he gripped his pants with steel fingers. "I-is there any way to stop it? Any way to change back?" Seeing the denial in their eyes, Marven hung his head and asked, "How do I control this?" In a resigned voice, finally surrendering to his fate. If you can't beat 'em, after all.

The next Day

Marven was lounging on a tree trunk, holding his contacts. A little strip of paper floated down and landed on his belly, where the doppelganger picked it up even though he knew what was written on it. The scarlet O was just a final nail in the coffin, causing Marven to chitter tiredly. Throwing the contacts away, Marven the raccoon rolled over, climbed down the tree and walked towards town. The man had asked for him to watch for the arrival of the others, and that's what Marven would do.

Mitch opened his closet door, and started walking uneasily into his room. A little glittery plastic crown clung to his pant leg, making a soft sound as it was being pulled across the carpet. Mitch turned slightly as the thing let loose its grasp of the leg, springing back an inch or so. He picked the item up, frowning. He hoped that would be the last time that little girl misbehaved. A silhouette of an owlman seemed to do the trick, even though he felt an unusual feeling during this night's scare. Stand in a lightly illuminated portion of the room, stretch out your wings, and spook the little girl. Slightly squawk out something along the lines of, 'Do as you parents command, or else I shall return...' and that's that. Frighten the little one, and have the adults just think it's a nightmare. Unfortunately, this little one had a messy room; the reason he came back with a souvenir. It was too late to take it back now. The little girl would have likely awoken her parents, telling them about the horrible 'nightmare' she just had. He walked over to a corner of the room, where a basket rested. He tossed the crown inside, along with another couple little items he had obtained from other similarly messy rooms. He planned to donate the items at some point, should he get more of them in the same way. Though, at this speed, it would be a fair number years before he got it to a sizable total for him to feel like donating them. As the crown flew, some little piece of paper dropped from its path. He picked it up, not sure what to expect to read from the little girl. A note of youthful crush? She seemed a little young for that, but he figured it was still a possibility. He almost decided not to even bother with reading it, and just throw it in the trash, when he noticed the O. He stopped, bringing it back into his view. "The Organization." He unfolded the note, reading its contents. Does this meeting have anything to do with the feeling he felt this night? Whether it did, or didn't, it didn't matter. He was summoned, and he must attend. He walked to his bed, stretching and yawning along the way. This human form sure could get tired easily. He fell down, hit the floor, and rolled underneath the bed.

Maven is able to witness most of you file into the meeting place, but not all.  Some arrive by .. strange means not easily observed.

Eventually everybody arrives at the address..and once inside realizes that the dimensions inside do not match those of the outside. A figure in a red robe meets everybody, and ushers them into an enormous circular room, this one room would put most baseball stadiums to shame size wise.

From the opposite side of the room, several figures start filing in. Some are easily recognized, some you have no clue who..or what they are. Eventually some very easily recognized figures enter the room.

The first is rather tall, and seems to be several different people all sewn together. Rather large bolts are on each side of this figures neck. Yet despite the stories, he seems to walk with a dignified grace.

The next is even bigger, which is hard to believe, and covered in hair from tip of the head to the feet. Standing well over 9' tall, with muscular shoulders wider then most people are tall, yet their .. hands..paws..whatever you wanted to call them touched the ground. Red glowing piercing eyes scan the assembled people gathered. Razor sharp claws and talons complete the intimidating look.

It is the next person, however, that sends chills down even the stoutest of you. It is not the size or look that causes concern, but an aura of power that just exudes from the person. He is quite handsome, young looking, and seems downright .. normal compared to most of the others..but you notice the others seem to defer to him, and try to stay out of his way. At first you think he might be your 'host', but he steps aside like the others. His Victorian dress suggests he might be Vlad Dracule.

Finally another figure comes in. He is about 5'8", dressed in a simple black t-shirt, and black denim jeans. He seems perfectly human, and he does not have the commanding aura of the previous person. He is a little rugged (think looking like Hugh Jackman), however. He goes to the center, and begins to speak. "Ladies, gentlemen, and .. other." He looks around the room as that gets a polite chuckle. "Some of you know why we are here tonight, some of you don't. Not too long ago, Malbozia..one of the most dangerous devils in the nine hells, escaped the prison we lost so many to lock him in. We know he is going to wake his general and lieutenants..and that they will seek to awaken their army..and then..they will be coming for us." His gaze is quite piercing as he looks everybody in the eye.

"Even if it were not for the fact that we are going to be his first target, however, we would still be here. We must protect the humans from this fiend. The entire world is in danger, every man, woman, and child." There are some murmurs as he turns to face each person, only a few seem willing to meet his gaze.

Finally a harpy speaks up. "We lost so many last time we fought him. Our numbers, even with the children that were had, are a quarter of what they were. Can we even defeat him this time?" there are some worried whispering in agreement of the question.

"We have no choice!" Says the rather large hairy person forcefully. "I have some pups here, mere children, because we need all the help we can get, but I will be a lap dog before I tuck my tail between my legs and run!"

"Run where?" The accent of the man with the powerful aura is .. interesting. "Van Helsing and our hairy friend here is right. We FIGHT, and this time..no prisons..we send him back to the pits where he belongs..for good!" Some strong applause and shouts of agreement are heard from the crowd.

"ENOUGH!" When the man in the middle, apparently called Van Helsing speaks..there is instant respectful silence. "We know the general and lieutenants will use the few minions they have to go after seven relics that will allow them to restore their army to full strength. We must not only keep them from them, but we must destroy the general and lieutenants to weaken Malbozia enough to destroy him once and for all." He looks at the new members ((that would be you)). "This is not really your fight..he will come after you because you are what you are..but everybody here would understand if you decide not to participate. Understand this, however..if you do not bring the fight to him..he will bring the fight to you. Will you help? Will you fight to protect those who possibly might try to kill you if they learn who and what you are?"

A man walked out of the crowd. Everyone was looking at him - probably because they've never seen him before.

"I'm in!", he shouted.

Someone from the crowd started laughing.

"You think this is funny, eh? Malbozia must think this is hilarious; he might even think that this is nothing but a freak show, but let me tell you something - we're still a threat to him and as long as we're a threat it means that we can defeat him!"

The laughing stopped when the man turned into a huge Bone Golem.

"I'll warn you right away - I'm weak on my nerves and I could do very unwanted stuff, so I beg you not to cause any problems and we could all just finish this meeting."

Silence. Not a single voice could be heard.

"My name is Vince. I have recently discovered that I have these powers and I'm pretty sure that many of you have too. If we are given enough time we could master them and, as Lord Vlad has said, we will kill Malbozia!"

"That's empty talk! Get back to your hole before I eat you up!", someone from the crowd said.

Vince was looking really mad.
"WHAT HAVE I TOLD YOU?!"

Silence, apparently everybody knows, besides maybe the new people, what he has sacrificed and done for the Organization.

Marven let the golem have his little outburst, as he was still getting rid of the last layer of fine fur from his face and didn't really care what the automaton was talking about. Oh, he was also busily reminding himself that he was a monster as well, and that these monsters wouldn't try to kill him or eat his (non-existant) children or anything so he shouldn't be having a heart attack being around so many of them. Then again, that werewolf looked rather hungry...

Raising his hand, Marven called out from the support beam he was on top of, "Er, excuse me but... if there are seven totems and the bad guys are going for them, then why don't we move the totems around and pick off all the demons while they try to track them down? I mean, if they want to destroy them all as soon as possible, they would split up afterwords to do that, right?"

Mitch watched the exchange going on among the skeleton-type creature, and a few others. He couldn't help but think of them as some of the children he has had to scare into changing their behavior. Though, it might not be appropriate to attempt to do so. He seen that a couple others joined in, trying to settle the situation; one of which included what appeared to be Frankenstein's monster. Hmmm. Perhaps that first one wasn't a skeleton. It did not seem like any normal skeleton he had seen before. Mitch groaned at the skeleton's change of subject, burying his face in his hands.

After that whole mess was over, he heard another speak up, taking Mitch's view from the darkness of his fingers, up. He listened to the speaker, and started thinking about it.

"That may work. It might not too, but it would be better than them getting to all seven in a single dusting, er, stroke."

"As luck would have it..they already are in seven different places.  Our numbers are thin though..we might be at a disadvantage trying to guard them all." The one that is probably Dracula speaks. "A few of you have yet to speak.  Does this mean you are willing to help..or are considering leaving?"

Rosina stood up, not really caring for the attention but felt as if she were supposed to speak up. From her back shone bright blue, transcendent wings and she had a circlet of flowers on top of her hair. All this so that they would know what she was, who she was. She was not well known and had never taken much part in the Organization, but she knew most of the members, either personally or of reputation.

"I was still young when the last war took place, so I do not know much of how it took place." She started, her voice low but still managing to carry to the audience. "What is it exactly you want us to do? Like someone here has already said, we lost most of our numbers during the last war and most here are new. I would think I am right if I expect us all to know get some information concerning what our objectives are to manage to fulfill a task as seemingly impossible as this one?"

She sat down again, her face growing slightly red as everyone was looking at her. "You all know I don't want to be back, but I don't want to die either." she finished meekly.

Ben had been standing in the back, leaning against a pillar. He was in human form, even if many had chosen not to appear as such. He had loosened his tie, in this environment, the horrific wound in his neck would digust but a few. Though still distance was kept from him, which might be caused by the lit cigar clenched between his lips.
"If what you say is true," he said, after taking his smoke in hand, "then there seems to be little choice in the matter. It is stand up and fight, or be smoked out like vermin. Most of us, if not all, will die either way."
Ben took a long draw from the cigar.
"Though a recent addition to you ranks, as I am, I can hardly be called a fit judge of your statement."
