Germany moving to ban bestiality
Germany to amend Animal Welfare Act to ban bestiality. I was surprised to learn that such acts were legal in Germany. Allegedly, 100,000 zoophiles live in Germany and they are quite upset at the development.

We had a german student once, who prided herself with knowledge on bestiality, in particular the purchasing of hamsters and shoving them up yer rump, then sellotaping them in, then enjoy till it dies. (clip its nails before-hand)

That's okay because when you watch barnyard porn it's usually Romanian chicks that do all of that freaky stuff with horses.

I guess the next time I visit Germany the swarm of eager ladies grabbing for my nuts will have to wait to enjoy me in private, away from the prying eyes of the fascist, neonazi racist German government.
I'm hardly surprised that they would make me illegal. They are, after all, clearly outmatched. It's the fur and powerful back muscles. Woos them every time.

If you wanna be anal about it, it falls under the cruelty to animals act, even though you might not see it in such manner taking a chain saw and sawing your chair in two is not the same thing as doing so to a dog (or any other living creature) at least in the eyes of the law, but hey, we're not judging you man, whatever rocks your boat.... Animals are generally viewed in a unique 3rd category in western countries: they don't have the civil rights of humans but they aren't considered absolute property in the same way inanimate objects are.
The justification of the law does seem kind of weak though. They don't really have much authority to say that a dog is being treated cruelly when it chooses to eat out his girl owner. I think they basically just strapped "animal cruelty" onto it because it was an easy way to pass the bill and get the zoophiles to go underground with their behavior. The Netherlands did the same thing a couple years ago IIRC

I'm assuming that's your own personal feeling. It certainly isn't any kind of legal status for animals - not in the US and I presume not in most first world countries. In point of fact there are laws which govern the way people have to treat animals in the US. I.e., they are not treated the same as other objects which may be considered "property". Even non-living "property" is often subject to laws and regulations governing use (e.g., zoning regulations, building codes, etc.) and in many cases it's a good thing. You may disagree with that, but there it is all the same.
Aside from that, equating animals to material property is a rather antequated belief to hold. I need not remind you that people once felt this way about slaves. Some people still feel this way about their children. I'm fairly certain you wouldn't condone treating human beings as "property". I'm not sure what is your ethical distinction between people and animals in this case, but most civilized people would probably agree that we don't have the right to torture or physically (including sexually) abuse animals. That's not a legal belief so much as it is a moral and ethical one. True, we raise animals for food, but in general we try to do this in as humane a way possible - because empathy is an intrinsic trait of humanity we feel the need to minimize pain and indignity, even in creatures not so evolved as ourselves.

Yeah exactly, that
If you want to be completely reductionist about it Mvass you can say that animal protection laws have a practical purpose as well because they suppress animal vigilantism. You can see that type of thing nowadays when animal rightists go out and blow up mink farms - or things of that nature.

Animal protection laws are rational because torturing animals is mean.
If you want to suppress animal rights vigilantes, you can just light them on fire (or penalize them in less hardcore ways, if you want). Creating laws for the explicit purpose of (maybe) placating vigilantism is kind of like negotiating with terrorists. You need to be extremely careful about doing it because of the precedent it sets in the minds of the perpetrators ("if we do this, we'll get what we want").
