HOMM4 Tactics

Why we do not have the same topic as the HOMM3? So I'll start this one. Just a little thing that you can win 10k peasants. When you have only 300 Medusas, Mass Slow, Teleport, and Potion of Mana. But others continue to better examples.

what exactly is tactic about this?

either you are order and get the appropiate spells and have a medusa garden where u can recruit them

or you are chaos
and get VERY LUCKY to even get order magic , how the hell were you planning to get to learn spells?

as for chaos

just use 1 big stack of medusa 1 hero with tactics
1 big stack of nightmares+1+1+1 nightmare stack

just terror and let the medusa do her work everything that gets close will get raped by the big stack of nightmares

A lot of people can win that fight with just Hypnotize.

Anyway, as far as tactics go just remember to play according to your town's strengths - and each town has at least three different playstyles depending on the type of heroes you choose to lead them with.

Nobility is a good skill tree to pursue, however there is a key idea to keep in mind as you do so. You have to level your lord AS FAST AS YOU CAN. the reason for this is the faster you hit GM nobility, estates and mining, the more reasorces and troops you make in the long run. for instance, in a 12 week long game if i have GM nobility by week 3, im going to make considerably more men from it than if i GM by week 8 over the course of the game. same idea with estates/mining. other skills like tactics, combat and magic you are free to level at your own pace, not so with nobility. take exp from every chest, do not add a second hero who leaches exp, and make learning stones and dreamteaches high priority targets. if you successfuly level quickly you can seize the advantage with a vastly superior troop and resource count over your foe.

you do realise that build only counts for certain towns and mapsizes?

Noibility is often used for a second hero who guards towns and mines

while your main hero get the spells/comat/tactics/scouting skills

a hero with nobility is useless in fights

so for certain towns it's very dificult to get a nobility hero leveled without it being sniped by stacks

and on a side note not all heroes get the nobilty(chaos and undead have a hard time getting that)

but from your post i assume u ussualy play order/life

It's not the lord himself thats great in the fight, it's that enormous army that he brought with him that is. It's common that I'm going to have 4 or 5 lvl 4s by the time you get your first one. Another advantage of a lord is it doesn't really matter if he dies. If a tactician dies, there go your tactics bonuses. Mage dies, good luck casting more spells. Lord dies, everything else is still very much alive. Some may actually consider it foolish to waste attacks trying to kill the lord. And he is not nessisarily helpless. He frequently is well equipped from the blacksmith and alchemist because he can afford it with his money making skills.

well depending on which town that bonus isn't so strong

for example if you lose your army+hero there goes your extra gold mine + mining mine

You will have no back up in fights and no more on passive map

and hero who can cast spells and is present in melee/ranged combat helps dealing damage and sometimes can even decide battles

numbers don't really matter really
(unless it's 1/30+ or something)

it's knowing how to fights that wins u games

nobility it just a passive smart income
for a secondary hero

I agree, a hero with nobility is useless in a fight, he must be kept away from battles.

well nobility caters well to my playstyle anyways, to each his own.  i have always favored lots of men and money over a fancy hero in not just heroes 4 but all heroes in the series.

I recruit nobles, then immediately teach them whatever magic is readily available (Order/Life/Chaos).

That way I can level up their Nobility to GM while still putting them to good use on the battlefield.

meh not all towns can RECRUIT nobility heroes

and might doesn't even get spells to learn

it's a simple as this

if u take a nobility hero as main hero u severly cut yourself on map creeping

while any other hero can do something

and basic nobility really isn't that worth starters since u won't be able to buy anything at start anyway

I use Noble, because Noble for number vs Tactics for power! If don't use the Noble then armies are low HP etc but spells are good. So have buy Knight. When Life spells are great and can rent the Lord. Preserve can't use the Lord, therefore Tactics, Creature Portal, Thief and you know skill. All are balanced!
I don't use Noble, if AI players, now less much! Can't forget

I don't think Heroes 4 is balanced, simply because it's too complex. When you think about how each town can use the heroes/spells of two other towns (or in the case of Might, of all other might heroes) you are introducing hundreds of variables into the game. Add to that how the heroes in this game are a lot more diverse/different, even more so than H3, H5 or H6. In H3/H5 the focus is always on creatures - the hero is merely a "leader" entity who can affect the battlefield by introducing more creatures, making creatures slightly more powerful, casting spells or attacking. Only in H4 will you be able to create a hero actually capable of wiping out entire armies, or performing extremely damaging skirmish/stealth attacks by himself - and in the case of the latter, you'll never even see him coming since he's invisible on the minimap.
The good news though is that when it all comes down it all the factions are OP in some way. It doesn't mean they're balanced, but it does mean that all of them can be exploited by someone somehow for a win/lose.

In chess, for example, the white always wins. Not create a new balance of just relying on spirits. So people are copying the idea or spirit. But was not developed to h5. I do not know if you have tested the AI? For example Necropolis, gives cancellation, mass cancellation and Death of Hand vs Haven, give to Divine Intervention?! There is not a lot of movement.

True, but so long as the map allows me to choose an order town from the start of the game, nobles and magic spells are a given.

Remember all my posts are theoretical fact.. H3 Slow was really valuable and powerful, so you think it belongs to Necropolis, but Earth/Order gets Slow again. Why? Death Knight! When +5 speed against tacticless Academy.. But noobs play Academy and/or Order with.. Ok Mass Speed? Don't cast a Mass Speed against slow Academy, you must cast Mass Exorcism, and you keep your fast troops.. Thus Steal All Enchantments..

And above post.. I played normally without insane Mass Speed, Mass Exorcism, etc What? My troops were ok in 4 months with two towns against Legion F. Dragons, Mantises, Gargantuans, Unicorns and Elves and then Thousands Wasports.. Enemy hero was Enchanter with Combat and Tactics.. My heroes owned Chaos, Combat, Tactics and Scouting.. Heroes casted only Cloud of Confusion.. and beat the Enchanter and his troops in GS without defeat.. When other Order, so Enchanter becomes terrible horror those Thousands 5-8k and over 200k Wasports due to slow time.. They removed elves and took Griffins or General.. I played both.. My second map.. Then went to normal Return to the Avenger..

I got a trick for you all. Genies aren't scary. Genies require line of sight to murder you with ice bolts, and they think mirth/slow is higher priority if they can only see 1 stacks of level 1 units, since those are kind of a waste of an ice bolt. As such, you can prevent getting bled hard by genies without a decent hero by using the tight or square formation, placing some 1 stacks of level 1s in front
