- You will calm down-

In an instant, the once irate face of Alexia turned tranquil.  Her stiff arms which were ready to pull out her guns and blast off the head of everybody in the room – in case she put herself in jeopardy – went relaxed.  Her shoulders dropped as she drew back the half-filled glass of wine from Yed’s chest.  Then her incensed eyes went calm while she nodded at Dorian signifying her obedience to him.

- Leave me a way to contact either you or your lapdog.- Dorian said to Darius.- We'll get it done nice and swift. Well, maybe not nice, but it'll be swift, you can be f$%^ing sure of that.- Dorian's comm beeped.
A hologram of Sage appeared.
- Hey, I've got your tobacco.
- That's very courteous of you. What took you so long?
- Some very smart street racers caused a huge crash, jamming the traffic. Let's head home, I've got some more research to get onto.
- Pathetic f£$%ing retards who can't drive a f£$%ing car. Very well, I've got something to work onto. Our latest job isn't complete, one motherf$£^er managed to slip our grasp.
- I'll await by the bike.- The hologram shut off.
- Well, Yed, it's been fun, but We've must return to our duties. be seeing you around.- Dorian shook hands with Yed and left the ship. F few hours later, The duo were back at Sweetheart.
- You should check the contents of the cube Dorian. It seemed important.- Sage said, slightly influencing the words with her powers. it was a little hope that it would succeed, but it was worth a shot. Most things that Dorian stored away would not be seen in months or even years.
- Yeah, I think I should. Then we'll work on hunting down that last motherf$^%er.
Sage smiled.

The eastern fringe... aboard the destroyed alien starship.

The huntress led the exploration force through the narrow corridors of the vessel.
- What material is this ship made of?- The huntress wandered. The vessel was broken in half, yet it seemed that it didn't received much damage on the inside, even from the heavy flames that engulfed the vessel.
- This looks like some sort of lab- Said one of the soldiers after force opening a door. Isnide several burnt bodies of aliens lied around some examination tables, with several human and thoran corpses on the tables.

A message awaited Harbyx in his secure mailbox used to communicate with the rebellion.

Quote:
K67-BT4, We've noted that you've made contact with one of our agents within the Hunters. We realize it was necessary to gain more information on your current assignment, but there is someone on the higher ranks that was not pleased with your approach on the situation. He insisted that there must've been another way. We'll await a full report on this slight incident. You may continue with the current objective. Our friends in the senate and the council will make sure that all doors are open to you.
Have a pleasant day.

Harbyx got home without incident. Always in the habit of ignoring the road rules, he also knew that his skill as a former racer was what enabled him to do so unharmed and unpunished. This and racing, which was as much part of him as it was part of his alias, were among the very few indulgences Harbyx allowed himself.
Despite that in the back of his mind he thoroughly destested the house he used as home, he was glad to be back. The apartement was a motley collection of utilitarianism. Everything in there had function, but due to that there was also no emotion whatsoever to the place. In many ways this was as much a prison as the penal colonies that had cost him 15 years of his life, but this prison was one he chose for.
When Harbyx, after a shower and a nap, finaly took to reading his message, he nearly exploded. He managed to compose himself just in time and sufficed with a low, long and angry hiss.
"Accursed bureaucrats. I'll give you that report on the sharp end of my blade!" Harbyx vented. "A galactic omelet, yes, that is what those mommasboys want, but without breaking the eggs please. Give permission, yes, but only while washing their hands of it." The venting didn't help a thing. Harbyx was in a state he reveled in when he was a pirate. One where consequences be damned and hedonistic satisfaction was the only thing thing that mattered. And what would be satifying was blood and the one thing he couldn't have.
With great selfdiscipline Harbyx calmed himself down. He knew himself well enough that he was no good in this state and the only thing that would bring his feet back on the ground was a rush. For which he had just the cure. He slipped into his gear and went to his private garage.
Lovingly he ran his gloved claws over his hoverbike. But hoverbike was a grave misnomer. The RagnaRocket was a jetengine with a handlebar and a seat. Harbyx didn't know what the exact legislature was on this planet and for that matter hardly cared. RagnaRockets were in near the entire Empire banned from everything except specialty racetracks. This because it was a danger to everything around it and itself when handled by anything else but professionals and because it could outspeed near everything that could operate inside atmosphere. One would have to be insane to think about speeding this craft through a metropolis and this was excatly what Harbyx intended to do. He'd get his rush one way or another. Seating himself, he engaged the engine and had the door to the garage open. And before his heart could beat twice he near exploded out of it. Leaving a faint trail of smoke as he sped off into the distance.

several police bikers on speeder bikes Gave chase to Harbyx, however they were left with nothing but choking on the thoran's dust. Ragna Rocket racing wasn't held in Lyra Secundus, yet most of the street racing was done in these vehicles, mostly because there was no way for the police to catch them. A collision with a building or another vehicle was another matter to see for the drivers of these transports.

Fenix's workshop...

Inside the provided armor's helmet, while tampering with it's recording module, Fenix found a recording from the depths of the planet Makerri Quintos, one of several planets in the Grendelis sector. The record held information that could be vital in the survival of the rebellion and the empire alike, as it revealed that a new threat is arising right under the noses of imperial officers.

"Sweetheart", several hours after the party...
Sage was conversing with the rebel command on the secure channel.
- The senator has tasked us with surveying and observing our Akhari emissary. We wish that you could contact him, gain his trust and the support of the Akhari.
- I'm no diplomat.
- Neither is he. You're both people of action. This is vital. We need him. Also, how's your partner? Will he join us?
- Not sure yet. Councilman Chevlov had some data, that I think will convince him.
- That better work. The Akhari emissary's name is Jak Copool.- Sage didn't notice that Dorian was listening to the whole conversation, as he was standing near the door, with the data cube in hand.
- So where we may find this b!tch ass akhari?- He asked.- And more importantly, where may I find this motherf$%^er general who's responsible for the death of my sister?- Silence followed.

Jak spent the rest of the evening drinking and practicing his shooting at a small, sound proof firing range at his ship.

Now it was the following morning and he was bored again. Finding nothing better to do, he decided to see if there are any agents worth contacting. He connected to the Rebels top secret net, using the password that they gave him... after a lot of pressure and a couple of corpses. He skimmed through the agent list.

"Boring. Boring. Too far away. Too ugly. Waaay too boring. Hey that's interesting... but such a low head count - boring. Is there no one here who... hello, hello, what do we have here? A genuine Hunter. And it says here she has a psychopath for a partner. I like him already! Congratualtions, Shasnavi "Sage" Virennak, you are the grand winner of tonight's show... now where's my armor?!"

Fenix, upon finding the information cache, set a few of her robotic tools on autopilot to make the suit modifications and began poking around. The security itself was almost too easy to hack, these personnel suits were never supposed to fall into the hands of an enemy intact, after all, but believing the information she gained from this database was a bit of a challenge. But, easy to hack as it was, this recording device had never been known to play a false video. In fact, if the video itself was tampered with, the device would destroy all data that had been recorded on it and become useless junk. It was one of the ways the Empire kept its Legionaries honest about what they were doing...

Well this threw a wrench in her plans.

She began typing in a message to her contacts in the rebellion, but then stopped and thought about it. What would the rebels be able to do about this? They completely lacked the firepower to deal with a new alien threat, and besides they were so gung-ho on this whole "Take down the Empire" plot that they wouldn't realize the danger until it was too late. With the rumors that Fenix had been hearing on military channels about a second hostile and incredibly advanced race coming into the Empire's borders, this could not be put off or handled by an empire in distress. She would show the video to her contacts in the rebellion, who would be coming over the span of the next few days anyway, and urge them to hold off on their plans until one of these universal threats or the other was dealt with, but she wouldn't expect anything from them.

She had to tell the empire. For a while, at least, it had to continue to survive. Sighing, she patched a message containing this video through seven different proxies and a time loop to five of the generals in the Empress's confidence and her Secretary of Defense. It would take them a day or two to receive the message, and likely another three to send an expeditionary force to analyze the threat, but after that the so far unstoppable juggernaut that was the Empire's military should crack down on the situation. Hopefully that would be fast enough to contain the threat.

Darius left the party after having a couple more drinks and leaving a private transceiver code with Dorian. He went back to his ship, then located Duke Edmund's manor through a security channel with one of the upper-class codes that he has access to as a member of the landed aristocracy. Though finding the Duke in the manor was not a certainty, as the noble would likely have agents masking his trail, it was a clear start on the path.

When Darius was ready, he pinged Dorian, signalling that his "agent" was ready, then traced the signal to Dorian's exact location. Darius flew his ship to near where Dorian was, then was dropped off.

"Astro, take up orbit above Edmund's manor. Use the transceiver to contact Dorian, modulate the voice to match mine. I don't want him to think I'm me." order Darius via com link as Astro flew off. "Tell him that my agent is here and that if he is required for another job, that he would be available as the urgency of this mission is not extreme."

"Of course, sir. Good luck." replied the A.I. Astro then contacted Dorian. "Dorian, my agent will be waiting outside of your residence. Though I would like to finish this matter as soon as possible, I have given leave for my agent to assist you in any matter that you would deem necessary. Contact me if you have any pressing issues, but my agent shall act as my surrogate in this situation."

The Transmission that Fenix sent was received faster than she'd anticipated. And now, the receivers of the transmission, discussed the best way to present this to the empress and the senate.
- How did it got off from the Grendelis sector anyway? can we retrace the origin of the transmission?
- No. Whoever sent us this severed all traces.
- A smuggling organization. few are large and powerful enough to smuggle goods from the Grendelis.
- How we got this is irrelevant. These... Hephaisti are reviving hibernating Grendels and are planning on using it agaisnt the Empire! Remember what the archives say about the Liberation of Sakhuri system.
- We all know history well, thank you. The issue of presenting this is still at matter.
- There is one survivor. A Legionnaire whom managed to escape. Right now he's stationed at the Legion's medical facility on Terra. He may well tell what happened, after he regains his strenght.
- Grand General Massani, would never...
- He WILL approve this. He above all else see's the stability and safety of the Empire as the top Priority.
- The reports of new alien threats in our borders, not to mention the power shift in Migla are...
- Not important. One fleet managed to take down an alien starship, and as we speak Huntress Frosst is leading an expedition to the downed vessel. We are expecting positive results.
Little did the Secretary knew that these positive results will come with tragic consequences.
- That is good news indeed, if not the cost of those starships! only the flagship survived!
- We are fighting an unknown enemy here! once the production of the Nova class kicks in, We'll once again dominate the galaxy.
The rants and arguing continued for the remainder of the discusion, but one thing was agreed upon after all. the Legionnaire will present the arising threat of the Hephaisti to the Empress and the Senate in a special session, where several important new reforms will either be voted in or not.
* * *
((Giving most of you something to do... A hard week this was for me.))

Fenix finished the modifications for the stolen Legionnaire armor. The refitting was appeared complex, yet was surprisingly simple. The suit was ready to use for Jak who was rather eager to begin.

Yed and Dasse had received a well payed job from the rebellion to hijack a prototype hover tank from an imperial testing ground.

In one of Alexia's mailboxes a contract awaited. the target was a high ranking corporate head responsible for production of the new hyperdrive cores for the Nova Class. eliminating him would slow down the production of the new starships, even if it's slowed down by a tiny bit.

When set his bike down again in his private garage, he was panting, his forked tongue lolling from the side of his mouth. He was exhausted, but this was just the adrenaline-rush he had needed. He had been chased by the police at least twice, had more than a dozen near misses of crashed and had burned up about all the fuel in the RagnaRocket. He knew from experience there was no drug in the galaxy that could approach this kind of high. He crawled back to his apartement and lay down on the first appropriate surface, which happened to be the couch. He fell into a blissfull sleep.

When he woke again he felt more alive that he had in months. He was slightly disgusted by the smell of his own pheromones in the air, but that could hardly dull his mood. He lit a bowl of scented oils to do away with the stink and set to work. Working with his scources and the file Sage had given him, he managed to track this Zerrini fellow down soon enough, getting into his secretary's files was easy enough. The human had a schedule more tight than the security on an Imperial Research Facility. Harbyx would have a hard time trying to catch him in an unguarded moment. And scheduling an appointment under a false pretense would be equally doomed as he was booked full 'till next january. The only available option that was in any viable stretch of time was the business trip he was scheduled to make to Rautherion Prime in a day and a half. He would be there for three days with a relatively clear schedule.
"It will have to do." Harbyx said to himself. So he set out to contact his handler about a way to get himself off Lyra Secundus and on Rautherion Prime within the available timeframe.

The eastern fringe, remains of an unkwnown alien starship...

As the group wandered deeper into the downed vessel, they found a chamber shielded from the damage that the ship sustained. behind the shield, several alien creatures were behing consoles opening the stasis chambers filled with strange creatures that one could guessed were made for war. The huntress and her group readied to attack, but it was to late. one creature, fully awoke from stasis sleep, leaped upon the group and started maiming the soldiers with his large schyte like appendages. The aliens behind the consoles smiled. one of them uttered something in their tongue to the others, as if rushing them to awaken other creatures.
- RETREAT!- The huntress yelled- FALL BACK TO THE SHUTTLE!- She and few other surviving troops ran back to their extraction point, where a shuttle awaited them.
The creature was relentless, and tore down the expedition one by one. Only the huntress managed to reach the shuttle and escape.

Edited by Galatea at 09:19, 21 Feb 2013.

Smoke filled the air as Alexia exhaled from her mint-flavored cigarette. Cans and bottles of beer were cluttered on the table and floor. Her look was intense. Her piercing eyes could burn a hole in the wall. The sun was almost up and sleep had yet to visit the disillusioned girl.

Alexia was very upset.  Everything has been going wrong lately. The break-up with Tony; that stuck up boy from the party who ignored her; that customer who didn’t pay her – it filled her mind with feelings of despair.

“F*ck!” she shouted furiously as she kicked the table in front of her.

The table flipped in the air, the cans and bottles spilling everywhere.  Sounds of clattering cans and breaking bottles echoed inside her uninviting room.  As the noise faded, a deafening silence filled the room and it hurt Alexia’s ears.

Silence was one of the things she never wanted to hear.  It made her feel worthless and dead. But even with the sickening stillness, Alexia was reminded of something.  The girl felt something was missing, a part of her everyday life that was always in sync with her.  She realized that it was the sound of her SAC. Alexia peered at the back of the sofa where she sat.

On the floor, she found the broken communicator which she remembered she broke just hours ago.  Its significance came to her – it helped her do business. Alas! She was freed from the shackles of boredom! A new communicator would be nice to be seen and heard again inside her room, she thought. The girl immediately left her wretched apartment.

The streets of the underground marketplace were crowded with different people.  Races from all over frequented the site, all of them with one goal – get something that only the underground could offer. Be it peculiar gadgets, illegal services or even the most kept information – it was all there.  As long as one had the right amount of money, almost anything could be bought from the marketplace.

Alexia pushed her bike into the crowd but the crowed kept her at bay.

“Get off the damn road, you f*cking retards!” Alexia shouted impatiently, revving her bike to full throttle and threatening to hit those who came near.  Some people cowered, some didn’t care, and some gave her a threatening look.

Not much time had passed before she found the store she was looking for.  But to her disappointment the narrow parking spaces in front of the store were already occupied.  A male Kharon who just arrived parked his bike in Alexia’s preferred space.

“Remove that bike, you’re in my parking space,” Alexia spoke in an edgy tone.

“I came here first!” the Kharon argued, “and you don’t own this, b*tch!”

Alexia’s eyes narrowed.  In a split second a gun was pointing at the head of the alien. The male Kharon stiffened and began trembling in fear.  He did not expect the hostility from the girl.

“Remove that damn bike or I’ll blow your brainless head off!” Alexia threatened.

The crowd went silent for a moment, starring at the two.  Nobody dared or more likely nobody cared to interfere.  When the alien realized this, he immediately withdrew his bike from the parking space.

The moment Alexia entered the store, a cheerful voice from an old human male greeted her.  He was very delighted that she came.  He was wearing a cap and shades. He stood behind the counter massaging his beard as he spoke.

“Alex, welcome back! How are you doing?” he said, “What can I do for you, lovely lady?”

“The usual, Damian,” Alexia answered in a calm tone as she approached the old man behind the counter.

“Another SAC? What in the 100th planet Alex? This is like the 15th time? Or 16th time you bought a communicator from me.”

“None of your business old man,” she replied, lighting again yet another cigarette.

The old storekeeper shook his head, “A man broke up with you again, right? That’s one of the main reason you keep breaking things.”

“Just give me the damn thing, I have money,” Alexia demanded.

Understanding that Alexia never wanted any more chatter, the old man went towards the communicator section of the store. He pulled out a black metal box and placed it on the counter. He opened the box and started assembling the parts while Alexia observed him, continuously puffing out smoke to his face.  As the old man set up Alexia’s gadget, he kept heaving a sigh like there was something he wanted to say but the girl kept him from.

“You know Alex,” the man started again for he couldn't help it,”you can still fix your life.”

“There is nothing wrong with my life!”

“I can help you,” Damian insisted, “I know people who can give you a normal job.”

“Look, Damian,” Alexia retorted, “I’m tired and sick of those sh*tty promises! I won’t fall for that anymore you know.”

“But I’m not like them,” the old man defended, “You know you can trust me on this. I can help you, like how I helped you and your mother before.”

“You’re just doing it because you want to f*ck my mother.”

“No!” Damian protested, “I’m trying to help both of you because I care.”

“Stop trying to be my father because you are NOT my father!” Alexia argued as she pointed a finger at Damian, her eyes furious.

Damian shook his head. The old man felt he couldn't do anything to change the girl’s mind. He handed Alexia the communicator and she in turn gave him the money still looking at him with fuming eyes. Damian accepted it and began calculating the change while Alexia set up the SAC to her neck.  When Alexia received her change, she turned and headed to the door.  As she walked towards the exit, Damian spoke again.

“Alex,” the old man said in a composed voice,” You’re mother is sick.”

Alexia halted for a moment.  There was something that held her back.  She looked at him from the corner of her eye.  She wasn’t sure but she did not want to believe it’s because she wanted to hear about her sick mother.  Of all the people, it was her mother whom she would never care.  But still she stopped.

“Go to her, she needs you.”

“I don’t care, Damian. She can die anytime,” Alexia responded in a low yet calm voice. Her face turned cold, yet in her eyes a hint of anxiety could be seen.

The old man didn’t reply anymore for Alexia rushed towards exit. She decided to head to the post office as a part of her daily routine hoping to find another contract.

The contract for Alexia held a little information on the victim. He was stationed at the Industrial world called Hephaistus VI, overseeing the production of the new drive cores. there was also a list of smugglers who frequent the system for contraband goods. She may hire one to take her there.

Fenix closed her eyes, rubbing at their lids as she put down the last of her tools. All nighters were doable, but always left her desiring a nice large cup of coffee... Which she was fortunate enough to possess. She replaced the cover on the crate and secured it, using her little touch pad to direct it out of her workshop and sealing everything up behind her. The windows became untinted and her store sign flickered to open as she walked out, Jak's armor tagging along behind her. Fenix trusted that nothing would be stolen due to the automated non-lethal containment trap she had on her door that only activated when a product that hadn't been paid for was taken out of the store, and this was also a rather nice neighborhood, low crime rate, she had the one of the only smuggling operations around, people liked her, the odds of being stolen from were next to nothing.

She took another rather large swallow of her coffee and knocked on Jak's door.

There was some noise and the door slid open. Jak was standing in the doorway in his full armor, in case anyone would walk by and see him. He had a blaster in his right hand and it was clearly overheated. It would have probably burnt Jak's hand had he held it with his bare arm.

"Ah, my favorite armor smith this side of my home world. Well, my only armor smith this side of my home world, but why dwell on details? Come on in, bring your drink. You're just in time. Well, not really in time, I got bored long ago. But now I almost ran out of things to shoot at, so considering you're late anyway, you are just in time."

Jak led Fenix inside the ship. It was getting clear why his blaster was so hot, the place look like a war zone. Overturned and burned furniture, pieces of what may have once been valuable equipment lying on the floor and blaster marks covered all of the interior in such a way that some critics would say it was the best modern art piece in the whole galaxy.

"Mind your step here... and try not to trip on this wire... oh and watch out not to bump in that table... You know what, why don't I just clean up first?"

Jak pushed a button on the wall, and dozens of little robots came out of the walls and began cleaning, organizing, fixing, reassembling, recreating and if needed simply replacing everything in the room. Within 5 minutes it was just the way Fenix has seen it for the first time the night before.

Fenix took another drink of her coffee as her eyebrow moved steadily up her forehead. "I take it this happens to you allot then?" She asked rhetorically. "Anyway, your armor modifications are complete... and slightly late because of something I learned yesterday. I think this is something that you need to show to your superiors as well, as it along with other recent events changes the playing field of the game the Rebellion is playing." With that, she pulled out a holo recorder with only the video on it and pressed play.

As the video played, Fenix directed the crate into Jak's armory, letting it settle in the middle of the floor before putting his remote on top of it. No point in taking what wasn't actually hers, especially when it was a basic transport remote. Not even the slightest bit interesting. She re-entered the room where the video was playing and waited for it to come to its close. The Evolon then turned her head to look at Jak and leaned slightly to the side. "So then, my favorite and only akhari client, what do you think we should do?"

Harbyx had most of the things he planned on bringing along for the trip packed already. If he was honest with himself, he was slightly surprised when his handler offered to take care of the flight arrangement. But then again, with the fiasco that had been getting the information out of Sage, he could understand it.
When he finished his packing, called for a taxi to ferry him to the assigned spaceport.
At dock 58D he exitted and payed the cabbie when his luggage was unloaded. He had not bothered to pack much more than some spare clothes, a few things to keep himself occupied and a small assortement of weapons. Harbyx hefted the bag onto his should and walked up to the launchpad.
There he spotted a light freighter ship, of the Brantopoz shipyards if he was not mistaken. A modest ship, but from what he could see well taken care of. The Evolon pilot stalked towards him soon enough when he came into view.
"Ah, you must be my other cargo." The Evolon said, "Your boss said you were the punctual sort."
"That I am," Harbyx said, offering his hand in greeting, "Catho Buachal, pleased to meet you." Another albeit hardly used alias of his.
"Tennes Bawn, though your boss said something Brismoth would be flying with me."
"Sorry about that, last minute substitute." Harbyx said apologetically, "'Bris'' wife just went into labour, so he couldn't come, you understand."
"Ah those things happen. Matter of fact, I'm still waiting for my other cargo, so I'll show you to your quarters in the meantime."
Inside the ship Harbyx was shown a small room which was furnished spartanly and in a hurry. He had reason to believe this little room was used as storage space just today.
"'T ain't much, but on such short notice.." Bawn started.
"Say no more, I understand. And to be honest, I've stayed in worse." Harbyx waved away.
"Your boss never did explain why you didn't use commercial lines though."
"I'll explain that later. Don't want to waste good banter just yet, with the journey ahead."
The pilot chuckled, "Hehehe, yeah. It'll be nice to have someone to talk to for a change. This life can get lonely at times."
"Let me get settled in and I'll give a hand with the cargo when it comes."
"Sure thing." The Evolon left Harbyx alone for a while.
After roughly two hours, the small ship lifted off.

Jak looked at the video entranced. Those huge monsters. That power. That CARNAGE. It was so beautiful. When Fenix returned from the armory Jak's eyes were lit like two small bonfires.

"So then, my favorite and only akhari client, what do you think we should do?"

Jak Copool snapped back into reality. He handed the Evolon her holo recorder.

"First of all, it's nice to hear that it is now we. Although, I think when we parted ways yesterday I said I didn't like you anymore. Then again, I might decide differently after I see the armor. I'm changeable like that.", Jak walked in the direction of the armory, but kept on talking. "As to what to do. I already have my "orders". I am to meet up with a local Rebel operative. Though I didn't quite understand why. I guess we should cooperate or something. Anyway, I found the perfect candidate - an actual Hunter. Wanna come with me and take a look?"

Now that, while fun, could be a problem. Hunters were sort of supposed to report everything they said or did to the authorities, and that generally included who they talk to. On the other hand, if this hunter was part of the rebellion... and if Fenix didn't give her a reason to suspect who or what she was... "Hmmm, Sounds like it could be fun. I'll have to go back home and get my disguise, of course, and we will most likely have to look out for her partner or partners," Hunters so rarely acted alone these days due to the general deadliness of their job that having at least one partner was almost a given, "but as long as we don't act too suspiciously we should be fine. Yes, I think that I will join you."

"Yeah, sure, whatever you say." Jak was clearly too busy inspecting his new set of armor to pay any attention to what went on around him. "Why don't you go and get your stuff. And in the meanwhile, I'll try this on."

After Fenix left she could hear the muffled noise of explosions coming from inside the Akhari starship. It was followed by a shout that penetrated the hull.

"THIS. IS. AWESOME!!!"
