well, think about it this way: would you rather have a fat lady who is working out to have a hot body(even though she has lost considerable weight already) now, or when she has a hot body?

yes, i realize that it's better irl to get her while she's still losing weight, shaddup.

We would release a "fat lady" only in the case when the team is disbanded and the project is abandoned.

I think more about February. Some important things depend on OxFEA and his heart disease adventures. Holding my breath currently.
For now, we simply make new graphics and improve what's already done. There is still hell of a work even after the release (thus named v0.8 beta).

Well, I would rather use different analogy than fred's fat lady comment. Simply mod of this ambitions and content would look bad half fried. While you can still enjoy more curve lady, you won't be able to eat something which is not done properly. This mod is changing almost all (or all) graphics from original game, it simply won't look good if you would run across creatures from H3 and H2 stylized next to each other. It's about consistency.

Keeping my fingers crossed, good luck and may OxFEA get better soon

I also wish everything goes well for mister OxFEA.

I know this is individual for everyone, I personally like to see how a game changes as it is developed, so not only I don't mind the initial rough edges, I find it fascinating to observe how they are ironed out with time.

This of course also presents the opportunity for more constructive criticism at an earlier stage, which can be a huge time saver in the long run.

Like I already said, it could also bring more people to help and substitute if a previous member has to take a break away from development.

The most important part of course is that no one loses anything with an early release, it only brings positives to everyone.

And of course I sure as hell prefer small but regular updates than periods of nothing and then a big update, but again this is personal for everyone.

Anyway, looks like orzie has made up his mind so there is no points in further discussing this.

I also wish everything is going well for the rest of the team, so they have more time to devote to developing, and move on faster with the rest of their lives (since reading some comments over the years it seems like this project has been a huge strain to some of the developers).

Cheers and I hope you all have a great time over the winter holidays.

Apparently, you didn't read previous pages and that's why you don't have any idea how game changes

The info they give is minuscule, and it's completely different reading about a game, and actually playing it.

The same is true about your second statement as well.

But like I said, we all know everyone will have a different opinion about this, but since orzie has made up his mind, continuing this back and forth is pointless. The only thing we can do is what we have been doing up until now, unfortunately - waiting.

hello im here again after long time, i forgot my password

I have seen many interesting features from the pics, but unfortunately some users have reason to say the mod is taking too much time to develop one playable version.

I will quote some orzie's words .. almost 2 years ago

OxfEA and I havetily preparing the demo video for the mod YouTube channel demonstrating the new artifact system and its advantages. Do not worry

Besides, Uhm is working on the brand new interfaces. I do not know how his work will be greeted by the players of v0.8, but we will see.

Where is that video? I did not see it in the last 15 pages (i abandoned the forum on page 40)

Heroes 2 is rather editable, check Project Ironfist.

I think it will take about 2 years to bring the mod to the final stage. It's long, but doable, and I'm glad to know it's a visible end. I work every day and inspire other people which is good.

After the release, I think, the mod could be combined with some other minimods which may allow for many of your ideas.

sadly specially, when you are focus on the graphics mainly over the other game play aspects

That's the point .. all of fans know that a good mod takes long time, but the form of that time has been resolved questionless, if orzie leaves the game or any other special member of his team renounces, you have nothing .. not even a video

There are many posts over the years that could be read as implying that the mod was around the corner, like when orzie teased the HotA-like installer, of course anyone would think that if they are working on the installer, the release would be close by...

I also remember a post where orzie was "hyping" a Christmas release for the mod some years ago (maybe for Christmas 2014), but again, radio silence afterwards.

Maybe it would have been better to break their current features for each planned beta version into smaller chunks, and make a release after each implemented feature.

Let's stop pretending we know what's about and propose clueless alternatives.

It is a full conversion, not a patch like fred's one, which continues to add graphics one by one but the game integrity isn't affected. To understand why SW can't be release before completion, imagine Hota team releasing their add-on without -let's say- completing the 6th level creature in the new town. So every time you open the town, and click on something, it crashes. When meet such creature on map, it crashes. When open hero army, it crashes. Of course, 90% of  the work is done but the 10% not yet coded makes that game crashes every 10 or so seconds.

Then, everyone who already designed and released projects for Heroes games knows that releasing incomplete work is diluting the reception, the fans enthusiasm modulates into malicious remarks, then is even harder for author to motivate himself until completion.

Myself I have a rule: check here every 6 months if ready. And every 12 for VCMI. Every 24 for romanian town and every 10 years for Galaad's promised map. It pays being realistic, you live longer.

I decided to create an official v0.8 beta gameplay video prior to the release instead.

Which game aspects do you see as abandoned?

The reason for it was simple. I was attacked by people shouting "when orzie leaves, we will have nothing". However, without reworked creatures, releasing the mod was pointless. It would be the same 2013 beta with new graphics. Far from playable just like before. So that I am not gonna promise anything anymore, receiving accusations like I didn't pay a debt or something isn't the right way to get motivation.

As a side note, for over 2 years we had to re-do many things in the mod from scratch instead of making new content. Some things which were intended by Mister Kalu like on-the-fly H3-to-"H2" map conversion are impossible by principle, and this lead to the vast amount of bugs in the game and mixed up creature order. Graphics is only the cherry on top.

We almost don't use ERM currently. Era binary patches do the job much cleaner in the majority of cases.

would patches included in SW, be availible for era modders? I mean separate properly named patches and plugins with source code, instead of one very hard to interprete bin file?

OxFEA isn't greedy about his source code. Yet, I think it's better to post all of it somewhere else rather than distribute it with the mod (but on the other hand, I don't see much problems).

You see, when you work on something for a long time - it's already draining health and mana, so to say, and bringing some of the source codes to a state readable for everyone is sometimes too much of a burden.

Usually when I ask OxFEA about the requests for source codes (I remember someone already asking here), he gives permission.

P.S. We have it arranged as separate .bin, .era, and .dll files, each responsible for separate features.

i dont understand the point of this discussion, just go to the russian forum and see the most active topics of the sucession wars, 90% of them are: portraits, artifacts, dervish race, animation of monsters, i have the last playable version since 2013 with many bugs, from kegolo maybe?, and i wasn't a great programmer and i fixed some of the scripts , i modified a few and i did many others with my low knowledge and alone, in fact the game crashes unexplainably but 3% or 5% of the time? even i did a tournament with some friends and we could finish it ok,  and you have a team of programmers expert on the system,  with 2 years more of development, in my opinion just my opinion, the graphics are far less important to the gameplay system, whats the goal to doing 10000 new items or do 100 maps to play or do all the portraits again? remaster the interface? do all the main menu one more time? that's ego, you erased for example the kobold..     yes he sucks is ugly but works.. you erased the upgrade of rogue.. the same, eliminate the gipsy castle with the ettins, all of them works poorly, but allow the game keep alive, at least to focus in other inexistent heroes.

where is the heretic? have you an sketch of inside game? castle with their buildings and dwellings? im not sure, but probably you have another version of the witch, with different monsters and castle options, it's imperative this ?

this is you first post here

Maintaining a live discussion is a key point in attracting new people to the project. Without Russian DF2 forum branch there would be (almost) no team and no programmer. Thus, no project.

A high quality product requires a lot of effort and complex approach. This applies for every aspect of the modern life.

If you have doubts, look at HotA and their release dates. After that, look at the activity in the HotA thread here on HC. I'm not even mentioning that HotA haven't even started a full scale promotion yet.

Without a proper approach, your long-term work will go into oblivion even faster than the actual time of development passes.

I've got more than 1900 casual players only in the Russian community of the project, and 900+ on Facebook, leaving comments and signs of attention on every update. And that's only the start, since we haven't released a version yet and haven't started full scale promotion.
