Dictator Obama

Obama has bypassed congress to implement environmental agenda that is resulting in a lot of coal plants closing.

No Biden says Obama can implement gun control by executive degree, bypassing Congress and ignoring the Constitution.

Clicky

Quote:

Vice President Biden said Wednesday that the White House could use "executive orders" to deal with gun control, as he kicked off a round of meetings aimed at finding ways to curb gun violence.

....

The White House has sought to avoid prejudging what Biden's recommendations would be. But the vice president hinted Wednesday that executive action -- action by the president in which Congress would not have a say -- would indeed be involved.

....

"There are executive orders, executive action that can be taken," Biden said, adding "we haven't decided what that is yet."

The republicans have been invited to take part in many conversations.  Unfortunately they've decided to filibuster conversations.

I'm confused here, doesn't every president make executive orders at least once in their career? And plenty of them have resulted in a loss of jobs, some of them in personal rights or freedoms. So what? It's something that our founding fathers gave the president the right to do, and if congress wishes to remove what Obama has done then they can make a specific law that nulls the executive order. It really isn't the end of the world that the den of angry badgers (congress) is being bypassed by the wary huntsman (the president).

People can in America, where such words have completly lost their original meaning. Words as Marxist, Dictator, Fascist, Socialist and Communist now only mean :"Bad words for people who I do not agree with".
As a Dutchman I have little knowledge of the current political reality in the USA aside from things I see on the Daily Show. But I can say that such words as above have been used too often in media in the completely wrong context and as such have lost all meaning. Which as a politcal historian (in training), I can asses.

While I agree with what you say in general, I fail to see how it's not possible to be both a dictator and marxist? What was Stalin?

Stalin distorted marxism for his needs. His disastrous line equating Social Democracy as an equal enemy to the workers movement as Fascism was so clearly prejudiced and filled with intellectual shortcuts that it can only explain why Lenin wanted Stalin removed as Secretary General of the Communist Party. Marx envisioned a society based on true balance of resources with all the freedoms of personal liberty that we all claim. Stalin was a...Stalinist.

On a level yes, Stalin is a bad example, but in the end, he labeled himself as a Marxist and justified his actions accordingly. I am not an anti-Marxist, I believe historical materialism is one of the biggest revolutions in the way we approach social sciences today. But the problem with Marxists claiming this or that is not "the true Marxism" is you can never see them show an example of true Marxism that exists. These people who should evaluate things in the scale of historical materialism according to their own theory, can never point out an historical example in which the socialist state haven't led to dictatorship. In a way, they remind me of Muslims who, when confronted about the shape Islamic countries are in, start to mumble how that is not the true Islam, which will of course bring peace, comfort and wealth.

Stalin was not Marxist. If I label myself a three headed dragon from Alpha Centauri, does it make me one?

Either way, look at this:

Quote:
Marx believed that a regular pattern of evolution controlled the human condition, which would then also lead to a more perfect society of classless individuals

Is leading a complex oligarchic terror-oriented party of omnipotent superhumans exactly fitting that belief? lol, **** no.

It's indeed called "Stalinism" and should not be confused with other political movements.

Leninism was a bit different. Leninism is a warped Marxism/dictatorship hybrid. Stalinism is a warped leninism that goes straight into the dictatorship category.

As for people who doubt Stalinism is not Marxism: A guy that had absolute rule over people can't possibly advocate a classless system which would put him down to the role of a mere average classless guy. it's completely absurd to mix those two. It's like a medieval king saying that the rule belongs to the peasants. Yeah, sure it does - especially when he hangs them left and right.
