A U.S. government website geared toward children under the umbrella of the Department of Education yanked a quote from Communist leader Mao Zedong off its page on Friday after it went viral on social media.

“Our attitude towards ourselves should be ‘to be satiable in learning’ and towards others ‘to be tireless in teaching,’” read what appeared to be a somewhat mangled Mao quote on the “Kids’ Zone” webpage of the National Center for Education Statistics.

Screenshots of the page were posted by Buzzfeed and Slate and quickly went viral on Twitter, particularly fake-outraging conservatives.

Several cited estimated statistics about the human toll of his rule.

Ahhh, I see, it's actually a spell checker mistake. The quote should read:

Quote:
Our attitude towards ourselves should be "to be insatiable in learning" and towards others "to be tireless in teaching"

You know, I actually kind of like that.  It seems to encapsulate my life to a certain degree.

Actually, I've been thinking of putting a signature on my posts, and that would be a good one.  Though I think this one by St. Paul is also pretty inspirational.

Quote:
Masters, provide your slaves with what is right and fair, because you know that you also have a Master in heaven.

So I can't decide which one to put in my signature...
hmmmmm

tough

Okay, I think I'll go with the first one.

Y'know Elodin, just because a man was a communist doesn't mean everything he ever said was wrong or evil.

That is certainly true.  However, that particular communist was one of the biggest mass murderers in recorded history.  It think there are many other people that children can be pointed to for words of wisdom. His idea of teaching was "re-education" camps, beatings, torture, and death for those who rejected his "wisdom."

Part of your Founding Fathers were slavers. Now be consistent and go spit on them as well.

You do have a point. With todays technology, some kids might find out from whom it came and become Maoist monsters...

To be serious, yes you have a point but this should apply to all people who did questionable things. That would be fair.

that's quite a good point considering we are talking about children, who probably lack knowledge about the context. and that may be true, but when I know something was said by Hitler, I tend to take it less seriously...
