Not all hope is lost. Paul Anthony Romero and Rob King can go and make music for Age of Wonders III.

lol you guys are funny. The only comments I ever got about the music on the townscreens were very much negative. And once their creators go they are suddenly the angels that made this series? Please. I'm pretty sure other people than those 2 can create good music.

As Avirosb pointed, Ubisoft didn't respect their vision, so by judging the tracks linked above, I believe it's Ubi fault for the 'bad' townscreen themes...

Those "original" music pieces are pretty good, but they don't amaze me. They try very hard to sound "epic".
Check out Heroes IV menu for comparison:

I don't know about you, but this makes hair raise on the back of my head. I can't say the same about Heroes VI ones.

Sadly we'll never know what they could have brought if Ubisoft didn't interfere in their original plans

Man, that are epic songs

Heroes III one was also a masterpiece, I'll never forget this tune

There's a big difference among what people say and what people do, Storm, and what Rob and Paul did in Heroes V wasn't specially brilliant either (and that's a fact, not just empty words). On the other hand, if Rob were really sick to keep him out of work, we'd know for sure, so it seems that was a poor excuse to stop working. Why? We don't know, but there's only two main probable causes: 1. He didn't like to have someone "correcting" his work; 2. He started to work on another project; or maybe both. based on that rather scathing remark I'll assume that you do know something, (if this is wrong and I misinterpreted the thrust of your post I'm sorry),

i'm sure you would not have to put up with good wild guesses, as you put it, if you would be so kind to actually enlighten us and tell us what's going on.
or do you expect people to give Ubisoft the benefit of the doubt?

First of all, I don't understand why you come now with the "possible reasons" of Rob/Paul left, when in the last comments we were discussing about HVI townscreens, and Ubisoft interference in their h6 work...your first answer now makes little sense to me

Well, these words come from two artist who for 17 years gave us great music (sometimes absolutely masterpieces, sometimes just good or great music), two people who have stopped working with Ubisoft and left without making any kind of drama.

So yeah, I believe these guys have earned some trust in their words, and I see no reason to think different.

Quote:

Staying on the top for a lots of years is next to impossible, so some "fall" in their music level is understandable, imo.

Quote:

Empty words? Nope, they aren't. The latest tracks released kinda proves that what they did was better than what Ubi ended doing.
So, in case Ubi didn't interfere in their work, it's very likely it'd have been better.

Now we see someone talking with no idea of what it has been said on this topic. When on the earth it had been said that Rob left due to some kind of sickness?

Quote:

Reading their comments on Facebook, that's seems to be the most likely reason. Let's think on it:
Ubisoft set some "restrictions" to their work. They're not happy with that, and can't find an agreement with Ubi. So they decide to leave, without making any kind of drama.

If that is the case, I find their position very respectable
(and personally, I believe that's the reason, specially since they wrote those facebook comments).

Quote:
2. He started to work on another project; or maybe both.

And why that should suppose a problem? Ubi Heroes games doesn't come every year nor they have tons of tracks, I'm pretty sure they'd have time to make the music for them.

On the other hand, a more logical reason'd be that Ubisoft wants to reduce the budget of the musical aspect and get lower profile musicians for the job, just like they've done with H6 dev studios.

Who knows what Rob and Paul's dealings with ubi were, I for one wasn't around to see what happened. I wouldn't blame ubi for requiring certain guidelines like for instance not using part of an academy theme in haven but then I do not really know what their editorial process was. I would not be quick to put the blame on either party.

In-game Stronghold theme is sooo much better then the other version imo.

On the other hand battle music sucks in Heroes 6. What happened to Heroes 3-like dynamic scores?

BTW guys, old Heroes universe is dead, it died when Ubi took over. You can either accept that and play Ubi's Heroes games for what they are, or not. The presence or absence of RK a PR won't change that fact that those are different games (only the gameplay mechanics are similiar)...

explaining how much UBi interfere into everything
and in his point of view spoiled a lot of things
now i saw Rob commenting in similar way about Ubi..

so i do believe that ubisoft should be blamed
for not having Romero and King in future

Of course Rob King and Paul Anthony Romero don't complain about Ubisoft. Complaining about a former employer is very bad for business. You are sending a message "I'm going to crap on you as soon as I stop working with you.", and no one wants to be next. Besides, bosses are friends to other bosses. You are burning bridges not just behind you, but ahead of you. That's why phrases about "exciting new opportunities" are common, they are a distraction.

And the Nival "interview" you speak about - is it the informal, anonymous one ?

Yeah and Ubisoft is one of the biggest players on the gaming market. Make them your enemy, and your life won't be easy when looking for other employers (bad PR and stuff ).

I won't start a stupid argue, just wanted to throw another more reasonable point of view than trusting to Brian's law.

Or maybe they didn't take their job seriously.

That's true, Ubi chose a couple of worst versions than the originals R&P provided, but that doesn't blame them for everything, because R&P also did some doggier things, like delivering poor versions of certain Heroes V themes for Heroes VI.

Quote:

That's what Rob himslef told in his facebook, I guess, just take your Apiserum, granpa.

Yes, it's respectabe if you tell the truth, but if you put a poor excuse like the sickness you're making a drama, aside of lying, of course.

Maybe they simply took another project more interesting for them that hasn't nothing to do with Ubi, and yes, that's a problem for future Heroes developings.

Quote:

That makes sense too, but the musical section has nothing to do with big budget decisions. It seems more like a star complex than anything else, and yes, maybe Ubi has their part of fault, but it seems it's not the bigger one.

Quote:
You seem to be very spiteful, so I leave a kiss for ya

LoL. It seems truth hurts, huh? I'm not spitting, as I said earlier, I just wanted to add another point of view, a more reasonable one. Just listen to Elvin's words, at least he gave some more room than "all is Ubi's fault, no matter what".

Maybe because that's what a professional would do? I don't know, but developing a game is a teamwork and all is subdued to be questioned and revamped. Taking a point like "I'm the star and I won't accept any suggestion" won't get nobody so far.
