game crashed.  saved error pop up if you wanna see it.  all i did was watch the replays of myself using up a bunch of mana to try and save a scout from your grimy lil clutches - so thats how its gonna be eh?
now the game is telling me "you are about to restart a game which is not allowed in iron man mode. are you sure you want to continue?"?
of course i do, but the repercussions for selecting yes or no are unclear

There are no repercussions, not from the game. It's just notifying everyone that a reload happened (without prior saving).

Don't think too much about it. In this situation, at least.

Dwarf vs Goblin.
Rogue vs Theocrat.

The antithesis is too powerful! The perfect formula for guaranteed carnage.

Well ... not THAT opposite. Dwarf and Gobs have both inherent Blight protection Goblins and Rogue both have special Blight damage strengths. Tame Troll with 40% Fire Weakness doesn't seem to be an option, though.

Obviously, both with Conversion abilities. Will be interesting. In another game I play Elven Rogue, and frakking Charm already COST me dearly ...

the polarity between our specializations is awesome too:
water master rogue
fire master theocrat
creation master sorcerer
destruction master sorcerer

What's the deal with JJ restarting his turn? What's that about?
Did Hilde die again?

No idea what that was about. I got the message right away, when I wanted to play. Bit of juggling with mods right now, but you can't fail, because the game tells you of any mod conflict, when you want to download an incompatible game.
Can tell you what happened: got 3 Irregs as troops plus the obligatory Cav and hired the hero. Turn 1 was exploring only. Turn 2 was touch and go. 1 Irreg was too far away to be pulled back into formation, and after a longish debate with myself I went for a Great Farm (reason: you get a unit, when you explore it). 4 Halberdiers plus a civic guard - admittedly a bit of a stretch with 2 heroes, 2 Irregs and a Cav. The Cav was attacking from another hex. The AI tackled it with the Civ Guard (sillily), but went for the kill with the 4 Halberdiers. End result: I exchanged an Irreg of mine against a Dirt monkey.
Last turn was 1 battle as well, the Dirt Monkey doing well against a squad of Blight vulnerable Elves, Storm Sister, Initiate and 2 Pikes (yet again). Wasn't that difficult a battle.

Also, there are easy no-gos: I have a Forge I would like to explore, but won't for some turns to come, because there are 2 Halfling Jesters involved in guarding it, and attacking Halfling Jesters with damaged troops may end with a bad surprise - they just need to luck out, and it's curtains; usually, if your units are strained and damaged, losing one is the start of a domino effect.

That said, I remember a game I maneuvered myself into the void turn 2 and still won it, albeit with Necro.

All in all I feel I'm in a good position. Will take another couple of turns to really get rolling, but there is no need to get antsy.

Well, to be perfectly honest I had a bit more focus on exploration until I lucked out on the last possible hero hire and switched to a conquest approach. The position in which I started is terrible, there's hated terrain about 10 hexes away from me and that will make battles very difficult. Starting skills are meh, but I got used to it. Expecting to play the middle game on the back foot, but maybe unknown future opportunities will decide otherwise.

LOOOOOL I had no idea you could get mythical mounts from egg summoning. Just got a freaking Gold Wyvern egg in my singleplayer map! That's like the best mount there is! This invocation spell must be pretty broken.

And in what sense is that interesting JJ? Are you trying to imply something, like maybe I'm not giving it enough thought or something?

So you're playing Sorcerer. Okaaaay...
No, it was an observation more for myself. It's a pretty good starting configuration, because you desperately need troops that can make a difference, but of course you also need everything else. It looks like a very open situation, every decision being really vital, every little thing making a difference.
I like that.

That makes two of us, really unfortunate I even passed on a fight last turn just so I'd be healthy enough to take a nearby village. Well, that ain't gonna happen now. Guess I'll have to revise my strategy yet again, lol.

i dont think im very good at this game

but i love it

finally figured out how to make a theocrat that doesnt feel stupid to me - he is First Forge Priest, Herald of the All-Father, Defender of the People.  the fat, lil, humanoid cherubs now make sense as dwarves, the martyrs and evangelists now have a worthy cause, and the shrine is a cool dwarven war machine.  "Odin is returning."
