Was wondering if I should write about the news or wait for you

But goddammit, Eternal Lords is coming closer, Hearthstone BRM is being released weekly starting today, while I lack time to play them. And I still haven't even started the Halfling campaign (I still have to finish one of Commonwealth's two paths to complete the vanilla campaigns)...

Sigh...

Always was.

After million f*ck ups in H6, I am kind of neutral about H7. I definitely like it more than H6 and the direction where H7 is going but I am keeping myself from being optimistic since it is ubisoft we are talking about.

I have the same thoughts. Was interested in H7 development, but I was completely taken in by AoW III and now I sporadically take a look on how it goes for H7. Not that I'm not excited, but H7 is in the far future. Now it's an Age of Wonders

Oh and because the gameplay movie is around 30 min long I will have to watch it later. Can't wait

What is reef colony dwelling? They probably haven't announced everything though.

They showed it in Frostlings gameplay movie. There's this Poseidon like unit that summons Thunderstorms and Pirates of Caribbean-esque Davy Jones sailor units

PS: Oh, those wiggling tails I also dig the new Scout unit, version Tigran

Oh so that's that, yeah I figured. I love that they have introduced those, they look really cool and have unique abilities, especially Lord of the Deep.

EDIT: Yup, I think that new units are really well done and better than majority of old ones, but out of all of them I think that Tigran units are best designed look-wise, especially those Sun Guards.

A matter of personal taste, though keep in mind that vanilla AoW III races are generic, so Dawrves are Dwarves and Orcs are Orcs. Of course Tigrans being badass is a different matter, but their main charm is that their a type of race which is quite rare in most RTS/TBS games so it automatically kinda makes them interesting. Personally I really like them but it will be a tough battle of "who's my favorite" between them and Draconians All in all Tigrans will be very interesting to play and make this great game even greater.

PS: I found a really sneaky strategy to pulverize enemies. Summon a Fire Elemental or buy a Fire Giant, send them to attack an enemy army cast Hellfire and run! Yeah, I'm aware that it's not a "sensational discovery", yet I find it fun to play and it really helped me finish that last Commonwealths campaign map...

Do you guys have some other OP strategies?

WOOT! Also, 1.2 GB!

Also, WOOT!

EDIT: A little late comment in the wake of Eternal Lords, but I finally managed to finish the Halfling campaign. Little guys have some interesting mechanics and I really like their Hobbit/Bag End climate even if it's a little ripped off from you know what ;P But overall they won't be on the top of my fav races chart. Nagas are also a nice addition (Gluttons "Oh nomnomnom" sound effects is killing me ). Plus they added some really OP artifacts like the one that grants the Divine Vengance ability. Now I really feel that a Mythical artifact is some big of a deal. Oh, and I really like those "specialized" buildings. They add some welcomed depth to town building (for instance you can specilize each town to produce one type of unit like one for summoning, on for archers etc).

Now, onto Eternal Lords. My body is ready for Tigrans

Bought Eternal Lords and having a lot of fun, but I've been very annoyed about production NOT carrying over to the next unit / structure and went on the AoW forums just to find this bewildering piece of thread - http://aow.triumph.net/forums/topic/inquery-about-production-carryover/, and needless to say I am VERY pissed at your opinion JJ (stares JJ). I mean, how in the world would it be bad to use all your production at its max efficiency? Firstly, that's entirely logical while the the opposite isn't (you don't build a house and throw away the leftover building material just so the next day you can build another house and throw away more building material). Secondly, good games all have a production carryover mechanism, be it the way Civ transfers production to the next item in queue or how it converts surplus to gold, or the way Endless Space lets you stack limited production for use whenever it suits you. The way AoW3 manages to waste all my hard earned hammers is just hideous and counter intuitive. And no, I won't accept any argument like hurry production because that's something different. A game with optimized production has both hurry and carry over, JJ (stares JJ again).

It's fantasy TBS taken to the next level, appealing in both mechanics and atmosphere. I can hardly find any equal terms of comparison between it and Heroes 7, which was my main reference point for fantasy strategy up until now. Well, besides Disciples, but that ended a while ago.

Anyway, I'm currently having a blast playing as a Halfling Necromancer (constantly lucky, OP) and I can't help but see how well things like necromancy and raising the dead on the battlefield work, features proposed endlessly for Heroes but rejected for various reasons. AoW3 does it and it's brilliant.

aside from a few ui irks, i agree wholeheartedly.  i just wish that both the strategic and battle maps were more legible; perhaps even slightly less atmospheric and a bit more iconic.

so are you saying heroes 7 is ready to play now?  ive been waiting for it to get patched up.
i really like the hero-centric adventure quest aspect of heroes 2 through tribes of the east, that i also feel is missing from age of wonders adventure map objects.  heroes feels a bit more like an rpg, and aow feels a bit more like a strategy game - 2 wonderful sides to the coin.
the only other strategy game i play any more is pandora first contact.
endless legend is a disjointed mess imo, but legendary heroes and sorcerer king are fun.  although i agree they dont compare to aow3 and heroes.

the necromancer class is indeed ingenious.  i think ive finally found my favorite - an earth/creation sorcerer.  now im fiddling with the rmg settings.. this has to be one of the coolest map generators ever.

Ahem...
First off, Stevie, yogi - how about a nice pbem game?

Now, production carryover (this would by extension be an issue for research as well).
I like it that way, because it adds an opportunity cost to builds. Also, with production carryover you'd have to tackle the problem of multiple productions: If you have a production of 120, with carryover you could produce 3 40-gold units in one turn. This would make a rebalancing necessary (in this case the low-tier units would be too strong); the sweet thing currently is, though, that everything has its uses.
I'm a little pissed at this moment, that Necro is so insanely OP, but I'm trying to change that - I've been b!tching about this since EL release.

I agree with JJ, it worked like that since long time ago and we would need a whole lot of rebalancing if we want it to work differently.

So making one T3 in a turn is balanced but two or three T1 isn't. I don't agree here, but whatever. It's not like I or anyone else can do something about it.

I'll take you up on that offer JJ, but not now. I'm still new to the game and I don't feel ready. Let me grow a bit so I can at least pose a challenge. Don't think you'd enjoy a stomp, would you?

@Yogi, I see what you mean and it's bothering me too. The RPG side of Heroes had a powerful flavor of its own. It makes me question whether Heroes should really go the board-strategy way or stick to the current RPG-ish world and battle maps.
