ok, i have 14 coniferous trees ready to make clusters(plus the 6 from the new deciduous set). hopefully, these will be enough to break up the pattern. if not, i have many more waiting in the wings. it's just difficult to see if i'm prepping the same trees or not, which is why i don't automatically have more. i'm having to compare every coniferous tree i make, with ones already made; and having to delete them if they're copies.

-----------

after making 2 more trees to replace the first 2 coniferous(pine) defs, i finally made 2 clusters. they look good. it looks like they will blend well with the other trees. just 4 more defs to go to finish them off, and i'll post a screenshot.

ok, done with the coniferous trees(after taking a time out to lay waste to mofo's online):

(realized there were a couple errors in the previous screenshot. i'm having to pore over one of my maps to fix all of them, that are blatant with the swapping of the two new tree sets)

Maybe he means the Redwood Observatory, it looks like there is foliage underneath the little hut on top (it covers the trunk).
Could be an optical illusion or by design for all I know.

These look fantastic, when (if) I start making a WOG map I will definitely steal borrow some of your work

thanks. as for the redwood observatory, that's how the original version is, too. the leaves i used were just fill. of course, i may have added a little more foliage to flesh out the texture; it's been awhile, so i can't clearly remember.

i believe what krs was referring to, is a pine tree that has shading underneath of it. i shaded it because i didn't like how the tree flowed from the thicket; there was no real seperation line between the tree and the ground it was sitting on.

The "Redwood Observatory"'s top looks like levitating. I hope its not only me who sees it that way. Otherwise I should get my eyesight checked

ha, you are right, and that (observatory) is all right.
maybe it's made by some druid carpenter

it looks like it's levitating in that screen, since the trees behind it are nearly the same color, and obscuring the clarity a little. i may have to swap the trees behind it, so that it displays how it should.

@fred

tnx man. your work really inspire me. specially - shadowplay.
it's great for atmospheric moods.

just wondering is it possible to make it more controllable (erasing, smaller scopes, more grades...)

you can make things darker by layering them(but i'm sure you already know that). unfortunately, there are only two shades of shadows to work with(light pink, and dark pink). here is a screen of my own use of shadows(layered twice for the correct effect of a subterranean underground):

of course, i did a lot of experiments with shadowing.
in this moment, much more applying it on a upper world.

"dark" looks nice in the jungle

good idea, but you still need the adventure hero in a bubble. and after typing that, something just occurred to me... battles underwater/space/planeswalker territory. a lot more work than i initially thought. unless the graphic can be scripted in? will probably still need some kind of hardcoding to make it work properly. to make/program the correct sizes for the bubbles.
