I think this contest had (in summary) the lowest quality from all contests in the last 5 years. Especially the bands from the bigger countries were horrible.

Germany? 17 points were about 18 too much. Legs, tits, blonde hair...no voice....and plagiarism aswell...

UK? Oh Bonny...you have been one of the greatest female singers around the 80ies...but time has passed...now you're a granny without a voice.

France?....let's do not even start..

....

Too many ballades...not many power songs.

And even denmark was nothing special...similar to germany...but a voice at least...

Though i wouldn't put it like that i kinda have to agree that this year's eurovision wasn't as good as the last three years for me (sorry lexxan).

And I am very sure, you can put a greek monkey on stage and let him sing the national anthem of North Korea, cyprus will still give 12 points..

it also applies in some way to the ex-soviet states. If there was only one good song from there and not two it would have totally won!

YAY Denmark won! Not only because I'm Danish, but also because I actually think it was one of the best songs of an otherwise extremely poor line-up this year - and it's nice when one of the better songs win (unlike last year, I'm looking at you, Euboria).

The show was great and Petra was AMAZING! I can only shiver at the thought of what embarassing nightmare Denmark will turn up next year.

BUT!

What the hell was with the votes? Azerbaidjan was the most BORING song, and it ended up #2 - wtf? Ukraine - yaaaaawn, another boring and totally uninteresting song. But most horrible of all, GREECE? That's got to be the worst Eurovision act ever, and after first 5-10 votes they were almost #1 - seriously???

Some really good songs that didn't make it as far as they deserved:
- Netherlands - best song imo. Should have gone top 5.
- Sweden - great song, great performance. Better than last years' winner.
- France - really good song. Pitty for them they started the show and then were followed by 11 songs each more horrible than the one before, that probably didn't help them.

Worst moments of the show:
- GREECE - oh the horror. It was like a complete rip-off of Russia last year minus EVERY bit of charm!
- Finland - most annoying song. But at least it had a statement.
- Azerbaidjan - boring song, gayest stage show from a totally gay-hating country.
- The entire first half of the show after France, not a single noteworthy song. Jesus for a drag.

How can you not like Greece? Did you even watch it? The lyrics alone are hilarious.

No, they were just plain stupid. I felt like pulling a blanket over my head because I was so embarassed for them, and then people started voting on it.

That was a lot creative writing, Lexxan, great to hear that You love Sweden! <3 And I find myself totally agreeing with your thoughts  about the production and host of the show.
Quote:
Only Teardrops is a really good blend of ethic and contemporary, which makes it very accessible to the masses, yet simultaneously unique in its own aspects. Obviously, if you look more closely, you can find it repetitive and not that special, but what of it? Only Teardrops is the EXACT kind of song that can win the contest because it's catchy enough without sounding too cheap or being too heavy to stomach. In that aspect, it's a lot like Satellite.

I hate to make this comparison, but perhaps it's more "a lot like" Running Scared from Azerbajdzjan, however Ell&Nikki are extreme in harmlessness and accessibility to the point it get's ultra boring, despite the philosphy "Don't bore us bring the Chorus!"

Only Teardrops is a MANY times better way of giving people what they want.

Congratulations! (even if I find it repetitive, )

Agree what you say about Azerbaidjan and Ukraine, but that box dance was expert and Ukraine's video probably helped them. Party songs like the Greek one always work, even if they like this one is really bad except at that party after midnight where you've bought some alcohol first. France was great, but I think it needed a touch of rock n roll to leave the depression and become YEAH! after that final crescendo. Then it would have been my favourite this and some years back in time, beside Euphoria.

Come on, everybody's doing it - North, West, South, East, and Balkan - and it doesn't matter much because the winner has to be good enough to attract votes from every, or at least more than one, part of Europe.

I think Euphoria was very generic europop. It was not bad, it was just done a lot time before, and a lot more interesting imo. Btw. Loreens performance at the show with her new song was kind of embarassing because everybody seemed like "WTF this sux!" which kind of just proves my point. I thought there were entries last year that were a lot better (Denmark was NOT one of them, however!), like the Albanian one, so the fact that Euphoria not only won but did so by such a huge margin still puzzles me.

Edit > But yes, Azerbaidjan this year, the dance in the box was cool. The song sucked.

Double-Edit > The Guardian has a pretty humerous and exact rundown of the final - worth reading.

No Politics...

Azerbajdzjan got 12 p from Russia, 10 p from Belarus
Russia got 0 p from Azerbajdzjan, 8 p from Belarus
Belarus got 0 p from Russia, 7 p from Azerbajdzjan

Polad Bülbüloglu - the Azer ambassador in Moscow and a popular singer in the 1970's - said in Russian radio that the results COULD NOT be correct since the Azerbajdzjan is Russia's best friend in the World, the Azer people love Russian Culture and Russian artist Dina Garipova comes from Tartarstan which shares culture and religion with the muslim Azerbajdzjan.

A prosecutor in Baku made an investigation and found that something was wrong with the voting - Russia should have got 10 Points from Azerbajdzjan.

Russian minister for foreign affairs, Sergej Lavrov, has officially complained and demands the result to be corrected. Government supporters in the Russian media said that the West can't be trusted when counting votes.

Aleksandr Lukasjenko in Belarus also accuses the West for rigging the voting; Russia can't give 0 p to Belarus.

And in Lithuania two Russian-speaking men with Ukraine accent has been filmed when buying voters for Azerbajdzjan, which got 12 p from Lithuania.

ugh, i know right?

i can appreciate the Soviets as the proverbial Villains on Eurovision (Russia especially as an evil machiavellian mastermind), but i hate politicing like that.). My favourite (only good) part is Belarus randomly popping up and being like "uhm, Russia, gurl. If you care about Soviet Friendship then why did you not give US any points then? " <3

CLEARLY THE AZERI POPULATION DIDN'T LIKE DINAPPALING GARIPOVAVERAGE . TIME TO GET OVER IT, PEOPLE

In other news i'm gonna rewatch every contest from 2000 to 2013 (i finished 2000 this morning) and build a database of it. Not sure if it'll ever be useful, but it'll help me remember stuff i've forgotten. (Brainstorm being as awesome as i remembered <3)

But they are the good guys and the victims of, as you can read in the article, "cheating Western countries fiddling with the voting to emerge victorious in the struggle for world supremacy in schlager."

I'm in constant fear of the security police ever since I had a 10 day holiday in Rome last year only a month after the voting where Italy was the only country (beside Alcibiades ) who gave Euphoria 0 points.

PS.
Good luck in the database project.

I didn't say I would give Euphoria 0 points. I just didn't think it was the best entry of that year. And certainly not the best Eurovision entry ever, by a very long mile.

170 million people watched it!

Total for the three evenings, but still a lot. Around 110 m is normal

And 38,3 % of all European TV viewers watched the final, 47,4 % in the finalist countries and in Denmark a massive 80 % !
