Reinstalled the game and created a new party. Hopefully this time I'll be able to go through all of it. Last time game crashed permanently and irreparably.

Stevie - Me, Heroic Male Human Mercenary; Primary role is melee damage with two handed weapons (axe early game, mace middle-late game), secondary is tank on Heavy Armor + Endurance + Warfare.

Micutza - My bro, Heroic Female Elf Bladedancer; Primary role is melee damage dealer with dual wield (gonna try daggers for 7 attacks), secondary is tank on Medium Armor + Dodge + Endurance;

Angelica - My mom, Cynical Female Human Freemage; Primary role is spell support (heal, buffs, dispel), secondary is damage dealer (magical foci early game, spell damage middle-late game);

Beowulf - My dad, Cynical Male Orc Shaman; Primary role is spell support (heal, buffs, dispel), secondary is tank on Shield + Medium Armor + Endurance.

Some things I've learned from the past playthrough:

- Freemage is the only class with Dark magic, which I consider OP because of Sleep (maybe it has more OP spells, but didn't had the chance to see them). I can take down parties of more than 6 monsters way out of my league by focusing on one at a time;

- You want at least 2 spell support for extra safety. With one, chances are that if you support gets unable to cast spells in the middle of an engagement, you're pretty much screwed. Unless you have Dispel scrolls, but it'll be hard on your money and.. just another choir to do.

- Variation in weapon wielding is essential. You don't want to overlap too many weapon skills for your party members. A wider pool allows you to hold more relics and have access to different abilities which are more potent in some cases. For example Mace gives you Bash chance and Daggers ensure the possibility of 7 hits which murders the enemy's Shield Blocks.

- At least one Tank with Warfare to save your other party member's asses when they're in jeopardy. Last time I went for two tanks, Crusader and Defender, and while it helped in specific cases, it felt like overkill most of the time.

These are to me some very general rules. There are more things that I could lay down, but those are mostly details and depend more or less on gameplay and other stuff. For example I chose not to spend my skill points right away just in case something might catch my eye later on. But with a decent plan you could prioritize certain skills and skill them right away after leveling, which is something I might consider doing this time around to maximize efficiency. Then there's attributes and how you level that up.. Personally I set myself hard caps and soft caps on the different party members in regards to Vitality and Spirit, to be above a certain threshold enabling me to be as efficient as possible with potions. For example if I have 100 mana potions, I get my attributes on all my party members at around 125/130 mana pool, to always be sure no mana goes to waste. Of course, things change a bit with progression, some members needing more HP or Mana depending on their roles. And much more stuff like that.

Well, off I go... on a new adventure!

Family powa

My bladedancer leveled on medium armour too, near the end. There was this fantastic vampire armour that replenished my hp with every attack and I had just gotten expert so I could use it straight away ^^

I don't feel foci are that important early, unless you are going destructive. I don't use their direct attack unless I am running out of mana or there are enemies that can be finished off.

Dark is great but I am not convinced it is essential, at least on normal. I certainly needed it on hard though!

Having support spells on two different characters seems fairly important. Saves you a lot of reloads I had a cleric tag team, one resurrecting the other with heal and the other with regeneration.

In my first playthrough I did not need a tank at all. Turns out that going damage all the way and forsaking defense in favour of caster support works wonders. I didn't even get warfare though my barbarian could have probably used it.

So, second playthrough for me. I decided to check out normal and it feels pretty easy. On hard I could not get past the kenshi ambush on lvl 3 of the lighthouse which had made me backtrack and level up some more. Now I went straight to Mamushi and took him down easily.

This time I am using a shield/axe/heavy armour defender, a spear/dodge hunter, a crossbow/axe/shield/light scout and an earth/water druid. Plus exp prime for identify I just entered Portmeyron at the moment so I'm quite low level yet.

I should note that moonsilk spiders aren't nearly as annoying on normal as they are on hard I had struggled in the bridge ambush near Portmeyron but this time I did not find it particularly challenging. Regeneration wasn't even necessary.

Unless you're going with some house rules party that is gimped from the start.

Gonna update my progress.

Cleared Act I dungeons - Lighthouse, Den of Thieves, Castle Portmeyron, Elemental Forge Earth wing, and currently in Lost City. Also cleared the Cyclops den, Dragon and Manticore immediately after skilling in Seahaven, and collected two Mysterious Dungeons.

Current level of all party members is 16.
Attributes (with items, unbuffed):

- Stevie - Health 228, Mana 99;      - Micutza - Health 287, Mana 102;
Might: 30 (56)                       Might: 16
Magic: 5                             Magic: 5
Perception: 10                       Perception: 20 (25)
Destiny: 15                          Destiny: 21
Vitality: 30                         Vitality: 30
Spirit: 20                           Spirit: 20

- Angelica - Health 171, Mana 142;   - Beowulf- Health 247; Mana 178;
Might: 4                             Might: 6
Magic: 32 (42)                       Magic: 32
Perception: 4                        Perception: 7
Destiny: 20                          Destiny: 14
Vitality: 31 (32)                    Vitality: 30
Spirit: 20                           Spirit: 20

Thoughts:
So far it's been a blast. I knew the party sounded good when I theorycrafted it, but to witness how it fares in practice was absolutely rewarding for me.

Micutza. My favorite party member and the most impressive. The 4 strikes early on ensure two things of enormous value - one, I always land at least one strike; two, I murder the enemy's shield blocks. I think the times when I didn't land one strike in 4 hits amounts for less than 1%. It's absolutely ridiculous. Combined with Warfare and the Crag Hack's Helmet's 6% chance for Taunt, the potency is through the roof.
The secondary role as tank is just the cherry on top. With tons of evasion, high health pool and Taunt capabilities I think of her as a magnet for the enemy to waste strikes.
So I currently think that she fits a rather unique role, that of a specialist. She's not important for her damage, she's just important for her multiple strikes, proc values and tankiness on evasion. Truly my favorite in the world of RPGs (used to play Rogue in WoW as my main).

Stevie. A beast. With a Main Hand Attack of 86, a Damage of 103-223 and a Crit chance of 9% for 40% damage, this guy is in destroyer mode. With Micutza paving the way for his strikes by negating the enemy's blocks, I mostly press the attack button. If need arises, I can use his Warfare skills to resolve the situation.
The secondary role as a tank is not as formidable as Micutza's. His upside is that he has high Armor Value and reduces a lot of the incoming damage. His downside is that he has to take that damage more often than not, at least for now.

Beowulf. A sleeping giant. He's a very good earth magic support, but that's about it. His melee damage is not even worth mentioning. His spell damage is still unrefined and limited, as I haven't leveled anything in that direction yet.
The White Wolf Shield puts him at the top of Armor Value. He's unbreakable. Out of all party members he takes the least damage, and his racial passives make him very resilient to magic effects.
I'm expecting this slow start to be very rewarding in middle-late stages of the game, as I couple his Class upgrade's passive of restoring mana with high magic damage.

Angelica. The healer + support. She's very good at what she does. She sustains the team with powerfull heals and buffs, and influences the battle with her Dark Magic spells. I also bought Resurrection on her but never had the chance to use it, maybe an investment made a bit prematurely. Nevertheless times will come when that'll come in handy.
But on the defense she's very squishy. She's the only member of the team that I need to keep a constant eye on. Her role is far too important to let her die, and she dies the fastest. With limited Dodge and Endurance skills, and no armor, I expect her to be the weakest link in my party, one that'll make me reload the games the most.

Resuming now.

Edit: I'm scared out of my mind playing Lost City during night time. Almost jumped out of my chair seeing Ghosts coming out of walls.

The bow of Arkath's breath no longer appeared on the seahaven shop so I got another with +17 fire dmg and +12 dmg on critical. Turns out crossbows work wonderfully, good damage and frequent criticals They soften incoming targets nicely.

I don't get why you're doing that for. Just start a new one on Heroic with a different approach and tell us how it goes. Maybe random party if you're too lazy to think of one.

Here, accept my challenge:

Mercenary - Hunter - Druid - Scout

ACCEPT MY CHALLENGE!! Mercenary - Hunter - Druid - Scout

Or you scared? If so, I understand.

Btw, that's not actually a challenge, I can think of a party with which you'll have serious problems due to overlapping and lack of certain weapons/skills/magic schools. That would require incredible skill and game knowledge, not sure you could do it.

Try to play all might or all hybrid parties and you will see that... nothing could stand on your way. At least not until DLC which just screw up all not magic parties.

Just for the record: I finished MMX with all three might/magic/hybrid parties and none have any problems with game... until DLC (magic users washed all away while might/hybrids have problems with bosses).

As for your team: Druid is great healer, Scout also is Master Healer and Fire Damager (not to mention about GM crossbow), Hunter can easly bring close all shooters, to finish them in melee and Mercenary... while not the best, is GM with Warfare, so he can "shut up" enemy mages very well.

Try 4 Defenders. Gl hf.

If by any miracle you manage to kill the Spider Queen and get out of Sorpigal, you'll certainly die at Mamushi. Assuming you even get that far, lol. Completing Act I is just out of the question, but it should be easy for you with so much experience Tell us how it goes.
