You know, the Free Keeps remind me of Humans in "WarCraft III" (humans + dwarves + high elves (orcs in your case)). I feel nostalgic...

Roseheart Pact is able to return 100% of the costs

Like the concept of wisps and ancients for Night Elves. I really like it.

And I enjoy your idea in general. Will you give any details on alignments' concrete troops further?

Of course I will!
Also, the WarCraft III references were 100% unintentional, I've never played any game in WarCraft universe.

I spent countless (well, a few) nights refining the concepts, since apparently that's the time when my brain activity is at its peak, for some ungodly reason.
And when I need it (exams etc.) it's completely offline.

Also, Fields of Despair is arguably the best metal band reference I could make here. (or one of their songs, at least)

Hm, no stacks, but a battlefield of only 20x20, that's going to get awful cramped. Also, exclusive creatures and multiple upgrades, a sure-fire way to keep armies small as even if you come across a neutral town of your own type, you have a 1:3, 1:6 and 1:6 chance of it having the creatures you want to boost your army, which will mean quite a lot of rebuilding.

Be interesting to see how this plays out.

Core creature having 50 HP makes me wonder how powerful should the Champion creatures of the game be.

They don't have to be "mighty glaciers", but more like "glass cannons" - powerful traits and abilities, but relatively little health. That said, tanky Champions are going to happen.

Also, I realized that the current damage formula borderline ignores the Offense and Defense.
Until I come up with a reasonable formula, they're not taken into account. (is there a Heroes game with a known and predictable formula?)

I have an irrelevant question: when did you start developing your vision? How much time did it take you to form the idea?

The vague vision started a long time ago, and underwent many changes, but to be honest, it indirectly sprouted from a MLP "ideacrafting" (the idea however is no longer in the MLP plan).
Yeah, I'm a brony. You could've probably figured that out already. (the MLP stuff is still only in my mind and somewhat on my phone and PC, and it's gone through like 4th major revision already)

At first I wanted to make it so that every pact (which wasn't called like that at the time) could start out with one town and depending on buildings and dwellings built in that town it could turn into either a neutral, evil or good-aligned town (of that particular pact).
And you could build new towns, too.

Anyways, a bit of sidetracking and derailing here and there, but overall - I'm constantly refining this idea and I will continue to do so until...God knows when, honestly.

I like it

I mean, you've got 3 groups, each containing a different emphasis in terms of units, spells etc, it will be interesting to see how it all pans out.

Good to hear.
It won't reach Starcraft's balance, but it will be pretty good nonetheless.

Looks interesting so far. Though for me, "Order" does not seem to be the connecting part for its factions - yet I have only read the names, maybe I'm terribly wrong on that^^

I assume what keeps the orcs, humans and dwarves together is that they see themselves as civilised and orderly. The Growth pact are all about nature, the Energy lot are all about personal gain (goblins, dragons, necromancers etc), whilst Order seems to have a balance between the two.

meh, that's my theory.

Yeah.
I know it may sound strange to see orcs as "civilized", but the pact names are shamelessly stoled derived from the Scrolls game (the upcoming TGC from Mojang/Minecraft devs).
Although not really.

Also, another update is on its way - slowly, admittedly, but it's coming!

It's also worth noting that it's also kinda fire-grass-water/rock-paper-scissors game (although each pact can keep up against the two others pretty well).

Also, if that game would ever have expansion packs, new towns are pretty much off the table - unless they would include 3 towns overall (one per pact), and that would be a massive balance undertaking, I suppose. More creatures, maybe.
However, to go slightly further into the Starcraft territory:

the base game would primarily focus on the Free Keeps (campaign-wise).
The first expansion's (as of now unnamed) primary entity would be the Order of Legacy (ironically I wanted to name them Order of Chaos at one point, but that'd be quite a contradiction...) and the final expansion would shine more light onto the Roseheart Pact.

A major-ish update!

Lair's core tier is fully revealed with Drakkhenlings upgrades, as well as their second unit - versatile and cunning Earthworms (and their upgrades).

Flamethrower has been removed and now the Greaser (which has been given a new name) is Lair's unique war machine.
Energy got a brand new war machine, too! The Oscillation Overthruster is your First-Aid Tent...On steroids. And it lets you revive dead creatures, too. (but not UNdead creatures, mind you).

Also various fixings of typos here and there.

Also felt like throwing it in here:
I have concepts ready for all Order of Legacy units - this includes the rest of Lair units, as well as Necropolis and Citadel units.

But, what should I do next?

a) start revealing Lair elite and subsequently champion units
b) reveal Necropolis and/or Citadel core units
c) start working on another pact

Define more informative.
Buildings (including dwellings)? General playstyle? More detailed unit descriptions?

While more Lair units are underway, what do you think of the current ones?
Imbalanced? Boring? Plain stupid?

Actually not. The faction seems original and really interesting according to the revealed information.

Scorchling

Is the "No Retaliation" ability a reason for 40 HP? The non-upgraded unit has 50 HP...

Quote:
Spit Lava - this creature can create a pool of lava with a cooldown of 6 turns at a suitable location. This lava pool is 2 hexes deep, 3 hexes wide and 3 hexes long and will block and damage any creature entering it. (unless it has Fire Resistance ability or one of its variants)

Fire damage?

The idea of Worms is great, to my mind. Interesting units with quite valuable abilities!
