Gather round, H7 News! (April Fool's!)
Tomorrow is a glorious day, H7 will be officially announced  Irina will probably frown at my jumping the gun but you'd find out soon enough. You see H7 has been in development for a while, in parallel to Shades but under a different developer. If there is one thing that we have come to an agreement with ubi is that they should stop changing developers with every damn game. So.. welcome back Nival! Truth is that they did deliver a good game and already have some experience on the matter so they will no doubt do better this time.
Now, some specifics.
- H7 will be 2D. The lack of content H6 suffered from was mostly attributed to spending resources on fancy graphics so the team reconsidered their approach.
- There will be a decent number of neutrals and locations.
- Mage guilds will return with a twist.
- There will be 6 factions. Want to take a guess which those will be?

Well, this is exciting. Can't wait to see what the 2D will look like!
I know that Nival had some CRAZY ideas for their own H6 so I really hope not TOO much of that spills over to H7.
Faction wishlist: Haven, Sylvan, Academy, Necropolis, Dungeon, VOID (new faction!)

You got them all but one Void is more of a 'cult' than a faction, gaining followers in other factions. Part of that will be explored in Shades as Sandro's plan unfolds.

Whatever, they can definitely make a great game anyway and that takes the front seat over graphics.
As for the factions: Haven, Necropolis, Inferno, Stronghold, Sylvan, Dungeon.

Well, last one is harer to guess. We already had Stronghold for the past six games. Honestly, I hope it's Sanctuary but for the scales to be balanced, it'd probably have to be an "evil"-aligned faction. And as much as I think it's a really boring and unoriginal faction, it'll probably end up being Inferno since Demons are "essential" to the Ashan universe.

That was the idea, a focus on core mechanics than fancy gimmicks. A few trends were also reconsidered.
For instance, inferno is out. It was decided that demon invasions have been overused and the story needed a different direction. At the same time they wanted most core factions from the start, especially those that were missing in H6.

Whew... I really disliked the H3 Fortress. Such a boring faction. 2D can be done well, but I don't really like it, especially in Heroes games. Inferno not being in is interesting though, I guess there'll be Academy then.

So are they keeping the Core -> Elite -> Champion system?
Will there be alternate upgrades?
Choices between units, similar to H4?

It will not require permanent online access though it will periodically give goodies to people who are online. Kinda like Duel of Champions gives epic cards through the infernal pit every now and then. Those events will be announced earlier so that fans do not miss them.

Tiers are getting the boot. The unit system will be a little different than that. Some units will give you a choice between one or the other, some will have up to 2 upgrades while others none. The lineup in general will be more customizable to reflect your might or magic focus.
