I do not get what people see in 2D fighting games besides SSB...

What is the difference between Mortal Kombat, Tekken and this besides theme?!

You know Mortal Kombat is a 2D fighter right? The good ones? If you only played the 3D ones your credibility just died.

There are too many differences to name, but its not only 2D vs 3D, the different 2D fighters are also very different from each other.

Something like Blazblue handles quite differently from KOF for instance.

For me 2D fighters - and ARK games in particular - appeal more because of their speed and intensity. The forced perspective means you can speed the **** up immensely without the camera angles becoming confusing.

I have a feeling you're trolling though, but I answered seriously anyway. If you can't see any differences besides themes then you've obviously not felt the mechanics of the games at all.

As I find 2D fighting games to be incredibly boring, I have never really taken a deep look at the games but I have tried several like the ones mentioned earlier and I can not recall any serious difference except theme. They are like car games. Practically the exact same thing as the prequels but with updated graphics , different themes and maybe some slightly special features once in a while.

I am not really sure what a 3D fighting game is so I can not tell how tainted my credibility is but as I do not really have the greatest insight of fighting games, it is probably not very high.

Fighter games as well as racing and rpg's are good for some adrenaline rush, kinda like Adrius' avatar. But you after that there's no depth sooo when you get bored, that's it. I played Mortal Kombat and MK 2 which were nice, both of them at their time. But got bored with MK 2 after 1 or 2 weeks and I haven't opened it ever since. Also I think MK 2 is 3D, but I might be mistaking, can't really tell and tbh don't even care. If the game's good that's all that matters.

Also that song is quite catchy I'd give this game a try someday. Is it released? Any animes or mangas?

Then you're playing them completely wrong. Probably because you and your friends whom you play them with suck too much in them. ^^

MK 2 is completely 2D.

Never played that particular game but looking foward to it. Used to be a street fighter fan but got tired of the short combos and high amount of fire balls. Soul calibur is very good for the spacing and timing ( and lack of fireballs ), marvel vs capcom is the best at the moment, so fast paced an action, but too much fire ball oriented...

Blazblue is the first fighting game of that company I tried, and even as a street fighter fanboy, I had to admit that it was better. Not as good graphics or quantity of fighters but everything else was better, and im now looking foward to that particular game Ive heard so much about. I hope I wont have to buy a PS 4 to play that game, honestly, fighting games are the only console games I play... I mean really... 500 $ just for a fighting game? ugh... hate...!!!

Actually, there is no game that I play at which I suck. That's the point in playing it, if you suck then improve. I only quit a game after I attain the highest level possible, or if that game fails to deliver me the fun I expected. In MK 2's case it was the former. Well, "highest level possible" is a bit of an exaggeration (there is always room for improvement, especially in competitive games), but the point is I was very good. And tbh my brother was even better than I was, but that's because he played it a lot more than I did. He got to the point where he was climbing the challenge tower on expert with only flawless victories, so imagine that. At PvP we're kinda tha same, really suits us being brothers and all

Also, is this only PS supported or can I play it on PC too? What about others like BlazBlue?

That doesn't really take much, web+uppercut=flawless victories all over.
Oh wait, did MK2 even have the cybers yet? Or was it just 3? Don't remember.

No depth?

Oh yeah, about those short combos Kayna, really?

Agreed about the fireballs, that's why Cammy's my main and elvin plays Abel. Glorious close combat carnage!

Another problem with SF is that while frame-perfect execution sounds nice in theory it has a lot of issues in practise. It's good for offline pro tournaments. But when you throw it online a lot of the combos are simply not useable, the lag kills half of your counters and you're left with a stripped down version of the game for higher level players. It doesn't work as a offline get drunk with friends and have fun either as you need to be good at it to play it. You can't just pick it up randomly once in a while and play, like you can Soul Calibur and Dead or Alive. So it becomes an expert crowd and you need to see each other to really play it as it's supposed to, not a good combo.

Blah, I messed up. It's not MK 2, it's actually MK 9, or MK 2013. I said it was 2 because this is the second MK available for PC. I don't have PS or Xbox so... there are not that many fighters for PC out there. And I think this is 3D as I said, just take a look:

Now master expert ladder with random hero. It's simply nuts And my bro did it. When I saw flawless at Shao Kahn I said he's crazy. Then PvP carnage. Ah... good times...

Ok, I needed to get my snow straight so this is how it is: MK 1-4 were available for PC also, then a big pause of no PC, then MK 9, MK 2013 or MK Komplete Edition was made available for PC. From all those I played MK 4 and MK Komplete Edition. Hope I got it right this time.

Well, I guess you haven't seen any 40% combos, just search them on youtube. Gotta do at least 10 moves for those. I've seen over 50% with 19 combo so, there's quite enuf of them.

But anyway, how much can you do in BlazBlue?

Guilty Gear XX Accent Core - MIllia Rage Combo Video

Combos have always been one of my gripes with Guilty Gear and Blazblue actually. Don't get me wrong, it's amazing to watch in vids and fun to play in single. But really, if I wanted to play single player fighter I'd play DMC. In multi it's annoying and useless when you spend over half of the match watching animations and waiting the combos to end.

There is also problem when combos can take over 30% of health. When you get past that 33% barrier it becomes a poking match out of necessity because you cannot allow for strong hits either way. Simply too costly.
And then the combos go over 50% and it all about who gets the first strike. You need some kind of mechanic for breaking the combos if you really plan for combos that effective.

SF handles this with limited super, ultra and EX usage. It is the best system I have seen for it so far(even though this encourages fireball spam, which is it's biggest downside).
Most games deal with it requiring heavy or counter hits to land before you are able to combo them effectively to reach those levels. That's ineffective and further pushes for poking matches where a lot of the moves are useless and unusable.

Which is besides the point since your original argument was that SF combos are short, which is false.

Blazblue has a special mechanic for every toon, like the vampire girl that can summon wind to push your enemy foward or away, the chinese doctor with the staff that you can leave on the field and jump on or toss, etc etc, that will the sometimes double, sometimes triple jumps ( taokaka? havent played in a while to be honest ) mades for a lot more aerial combos.

Those street fighter combos you talk about cannot be executed all the time, it requires EX moves which limits ( key word, limit! ) the combos to "occasionally".

STreet Fighter is a great game, you know, im not saying that it sucks, but when we compare all the advertisements, after trying out blazblue, I felt like street fighter was overrated.

When you start playing Street fighter on a higher competitive level, you realize that its a lot of back and forth, trying to sneak in 1 hit comfirm followed up by a short combo most of the time, and people call it "depth", and it is indeed "depth" of the game, but at that point, might as well play soul calibur, because in that regard, it offers a much better strike back and forth depth with the 3D aspect of vertical horizontal, up and down strikes with side dodges, parry's ( Parry's! Yes! Why did they remove it after street fighter 3 ? Sheesh ... ) and ground attacks.

BlazBlue is simply more wild while remaining a balanced game nonetheless.

The difficulty in executing those 40%+ combos is extreme, and I cannot see those being performed in PvP unless we're talking about someone really really pro. AND, there is a combo breaking system, so no worries. But you'd better try the game and see for yourself.

Combo difficulty and length is irrelevant as long as you score the first hit. From that point on the other player cannot do anything and the whole combo will hit(unless you mess up but then you just didn't practise it well).
That's why combo breaking systems are good to have. They're a double-edged sword though. If it's not very well designed, the players will stop using breakable combos all together. There needs to be a very good balance in the system.

And if you read my last post you'd know that it's a damn good thing it does. That roman cancel spam from Guilty Gears is a good example of why you need to have a limit on them. These limits also add a lot of depth to the tactics. You can save the bar for super, perhaps super in the next round even. Or you can spend it on EX-cancel for that extra damage in the combo, EX-phasing a fireball, EX-move to overpower a normal strike, EX-move to allow for the move in a different situation, etc. This actually brings out more variety in the moves(even though it sounds counter-intuitive).

There's a lot of shortcomings in SFIV(jump control, fireball spam, copy of character moves, etc.) but this is not the thread for it.

If you are wondering, I'm virtual fighter 3 tb fan all the way through. Everything else is simplified.

Blazblue is far from balanced but then again there isn't much balance to be found in diversity.

Super-hype for Venom and I-No.

Cool that Eddie is Zato-1 again... maybe it happened somewhere earlier in the story that I missed but still, him being in control of his own body and not just being a puppet would be pretty sweet.

Watched some leaked gameplay as well... looks like it handles very well. God I pray for PC version...!
