Oh, so the show finally got to the fight between the Viper and the Mountain... Well, time to start watching the show then I suppose. Need something to tidee over to the 6th book...

Edit: Also, yeah, Oberyn's death comes put of nowhere in the books too. I do not look forward to this gut punch disguised as an episode... ;n; Rest in peace, Viper of Dorne, rest in peace...

I saw Oberyn's death coming from miles away in the books. Like... a main character's last hopes rest on an epic, David & Goliathesque fight, involving a likable minor character taking on an extremely evil and powerful opponent to extract vengeance on his murdered kin?

Yeah, no way GRRM was going to have that actually happen, the devious jerk. Whenever something seems too good to be true in ASOIAF, you can bet it won't be true. Unless it involves Daenerys. :-/

Doesn't mean it's not heart-breaking though

I haven't read the books but they change things anyway. And I wasn't extremely surprised at his death either. What I'm saying is, everybody seems to think, instead of quickly killing the Mountain, Oberyn just kept on talking and talking for he was sure of his victory and he was bragging. That wasn't so, he was trying to get the Mountain to confess that he took his orders from Tywin Lannister. He even asked about that specifically. So, although executed poorly, it was a deliberate plan, not some hubris that went loose in the first flush of victory.

@artu
Maybe it wasn't hubris in the traditional sense, but it was close. He wanted justice and he tried to make the Mountain confess, but he would not have acted like a prosecutor unless he was sure of his victory. He took his victory for granted and that got him killed. So personally I think it was a form of hubris, but it was because of Justice and that was what fueled Oberyn. Of course he wanted the mountain to confess, it was his sole purpose for even taking part in the trial by combat.

Whatever, hopefully Stannis will soon sweep Westeros clean and bring true justice for everyone!!

After checking the reader comments, I am now sure, it is not authentic though. It didn't look like it was written by a professional author in the first place but I doubted maybe he was making a point by deliberately using a tone that reflects what he thinks about the source of the criticism.

Good, I love how they tied up every end, it did give me the feeling that it was somewhat rushed, but still, I love the closure feel of this series, and that not everything is up in the air. (well it is, but the plots of this series are at an end, and I can only assume the future ones)

Agreed, and you have to give it to the series that they always have had really nice season ending all round. Never do you have to wait for any major cliffhanger for 40 weeks, which is quite the relief.

I thought this episode was great, fastest 66 minutes of my life.
Happened way more than I thought it would.

It was the best season finale of the show. The time was distributed with perfect balance among many subplots. However, I got confused about two things:

-Spoiler Alert-

1- Wasnt the wall the only thing between massive hordes of wildlings and the crows? What happened to 100.000 men? How come Stannis captured them so easily with just a legion of cavalry?

2- Arent kings (he was de facto, the king) protected all the time by guards and special security units? How on earth did Tyrion just walked into his father's bedroom and his toilet and shoot him like a duck? I mean, it would have made sense if he came in through some secret passage which he also knows by being a Lannister and no one expects him, but no, he just walked in through the front door and bam, that was that.

Is there any detail about these in the books?

It's likely that guards were posted, in front of all entrances to that particular part of the castle, if you recall Tyrion enters via a secret passage.

Ships. And heavy cavalry can effectively disperse lightly armed troops. I can just about believe it if the cavalry came from one direction, but they seemed to have "surrounded" the wildlings, how I have no idea, especially how without being noticed by outlying scouts, or perhaps the King beyond the wall didn't post scouts far enough, which would be awfully short sighted when commanding such a large force.

I can believe the cavalry being able to disperse wildlings sure enough, but how they knew where find Mance, especially when he looks as trampy as the rest of them bothers me slightly. However it was good fun, but this comes in line with what I said about this episode seeming to be rushed, I feel some context is missing from Stannis. (I guess it would've ruined the surprise)

Amazing. I was spoiled about Tywin's fate quite early but apparently managed to mentally block it haha... very powerful scene.

I smiled when Snow told Stannis to burn the bodies. Hardly a man that needs any major convincing to set stuff on fire ^_^

Sad dragons . Very temporary solution.. I mean she's gotta get 'em under control before they grow bigger! Then again it's said they're untameable... but the previous Targaryens did effing ride 'em so... what gives?

Arya looks so strong now.. love the character.

Epicness.

Arya storyline is abolutely great. The end with the music playing dolorously while she sets off..wow. I was kinda expecting her to go somewhere else than on the Wall though.

Also that fight between Brienne of Tarth and Hound actually had me on the edge of my seat. I hadn't realized before that I liked Brienne, sweet, or perhaps I had forgotten.

Tyrion became even more tragic of a character. Holy snow, the love of your life in bed with your father. Speak about adding insult to the injury.

The Dragons getting out of control. And Drogon is nowhere to be found, burning not only livestock but children as well, muahaha. I have no idea if Dany can control him anymore. Luckily she can't be burned

Ice and fire conflict seems great, some great power in the north has lead Brann there and we all know what Lord of Light is capable of. Could that mean that Dany and Red Witch/Stannis could become allies at some point, both are very much into the fire theme. Brann is getting more of some superpowers it seems, or he hasn't understood his abilities yet. But why did Jojen have to die ;/ He was kinda cool. Reminded me of Raistlin in Dragonlance, fragile body and limping along, having seizures that look like could kill him.

I stand by what I said. I dare not elaborate, could be a spoiler if writers decide to include the storyline I'm thinking of.

Though to be fair, I think Shae was kiiinda a replacement character? Maybe...
