There are many characters like that if compared to TV series. But given that he is not dead yet, he might as well appear out of blue with a flourish and a smile. Not to mention the great deal of characters who are not dead (yet) in the books which have died in the TV – some might not have the same sorry fate.

Yeah it's clear the show is its own thing at this point and the books are a separate tale. There were quite a few scenes in season 1 that were totally different in the books that disapointed me greatly. Sometimes the show does it better, like that duel between Ned and Jamie never seemed to happen in the book but it was a great part in the show.
But anyways, with the baratheons basically all dead, it would be a good time for Gendry to reappear

Gendry will become Arya's sex slave in exchange of making newer and deadlier weapons, while she goes on a rampage skinning away people's faces.

Especially the dinner between Tyrion and Janos, in the book it was alright in the TV show it was a burn.

I believe the series mentioned only like 5 remained in existence? I know Jon Snow wields one, Brienne of Tarth wields the one originally used by Jamie Lannister and then Samwell Tarly has the one of his family by the end of season 6, as he steals it from the family home. The other two escape me at the moment.
Of course, there's the Dragonglass stuff, but that's a one-hit wonder; after hitting a White Walker with it, the weapon disintegrates as well.

If I'm not mistaken, the sword which belonged to Ned Stark was forged back into 2 weapons: 1 which is being wielded by Brienne, and the other one, a not so big one, which was being held by Joffrey.
There's Sam's, Jon's, a dagger which belongs to Baelish and I remember something of a blade on Daenerys plot, but I think it might not have appeared on TV.

I'd rather not, some of us our dirty thieving plebs so gotta sit on it for a few hours.
A solid first ep imho except I like to eat while I watch long programmes and that didnt go down too well. My major beef (of all things) is Euron, I was really looking forward to his unveiling (though that's more of a beef with last season, but his appearance this ep just poured salt on that wound).

It was a decent first episode, I guess they had to put a little bit of every character in the first episode so we got only miniscule development on each character.. For example Dany just landed on Dragonstone lol, nothing else. But they just had to show the Dragons. I don't complain tho.
Favorite part is probably how Sansa and Jon debated on what to do with the traitors. Both have valid opinions, Jon has the moral high ground because they were such adorable little kids who inherited the houses... but Sansa has a good point of what has happened to their father and Rob when they try only to do the right thing. Awesome scenes between them.
The winter has come for the Freys was also an awesome line from Arya.

Their debates were was my favorite part as well. My personal favorite moment within that was seeing their two personalities play out while trying to decide which direction to turn their forces. I saw it as what each of them saw as the most immediate threat. Sansa has had to witness terrible individuals like Joffrey, Cersei, and Ramsay. To her, these types need to be stopped as soon as possible. To her they are the biggest threat. She's most likely unaware of Dany and her dragons. She also hasn't seen the white walkers or their zombie magic. Just based on her character development, she seems like the type to dismiss a threat until it directly affects her in some way.
Jon on the other hand is looking at the bigger picture. He knows the threat that the White Walkers pose to the entire world. He's not just thinking The Wall or Winterfell. Cersei and company are a minor annoyance compared to the White Walkers. Not to mention that one of those armies can be killed with any average weapon while the other requires weapons made out of either dragonglass or Valyrian steel.
It kind of made me remember back in the first season when Sansa came to Joffrey's defense. His rotten attitude caused the death of the baker's son which didn't directly affect Sansa. It wasn't until his actions hit home to her directly that she was like,"wow, he's kind of a dick"
I think it's going to take someone close to her (perhaps Brienne) to die and maybe even get resurrected by the Night King to finally realize why Jon is so dead set on stopping them.

Speaking of the dead, totally thought that Jorah was a zombo when he grabbed at Sam, figured the Night King's magic has already spread that far south, but it was just the same ol' Jorah chillin in a cell.

Damn that episode must've had quite the budget. I would've laughed if Jamie retorts at the end saying, course it won't it's just water, nah we got something special in mind for you. Not that it matters one way or the other, I don't particularly want to see the ol lady. Pretty sure the ol' lady was trying to show that she wasn't messing around when she said she's done some unsavoury **** in her life, Roses have thorns you foolish boy!

How dare you sir! The ol'lady is one of the better players of the game of thrones thorns. Only one standing head to head in prestige (and balls) to the late Tywin Lannister yet scheming well with the likes of Varys.
The War has begun! How funny how in one episode I feel Danys position dramatically took a turn for the worse. I can't believe the Queen with the C-word has the bank backing her, sigh...

Is it me or did Emilia Clarke finally learn to act in a palatable manner after 7 years? Or was this just a fluke?!

Well, the 7 kingdoms she has wished for are finally within reach so she was bound to change her tone. Tbh I don't like it much, it's harder for me to take her seriously.
Damn I loved this episode. Some fantastic performances by Tyrion, Jaime, Sir Davos and Olenna. Tyrion and Olenna are a pleasure to watch as always but damn, she burnt Jaime extra crispy Kind of sad though, considering he made her end as painless as humanly possible. Sir Davos' speech was epic and Jaime gets respect points for exchanging towns with the reasoning that the opposition will have to abandon his anyway. I am a little surprised that Olenna had not fortified her position better. And Cersei, savage as ever.

I kind of think the opposite about Emilia Clarke, her acting never irritated me in anyway before, she was no Meryl Streep but she didnt stand out as incompetent either. For the first time though, I found her not convincing enough when she was trying to come off as "woman in charge." (Cersei with the banker was much more convincing in this regard.) Somehow, she appears vulnarable when she overacts the intimidating gestures.

Do recall her army was destroyed not long before by the iron fleet, so all she had at hand were conscripts at best (hence the 'did they at least fight well' and Jamie giving a shrug of his shoulders in response).

Olenna will be missed. I think she was a great character in all episodes she were in. But she did go out on a high note.
