Did you just link the same vid? The night battle was an awesome spectacle but damn, they made such an easy affair out of it. All main chars surrounded or hugged by 4 wights each time the camera cuts to black, they're fine when you next see them. The Dothraki are decimated, by ep 6 they are revived. Next to no major deaths. Crypt scene added for shock factor, nothing happens. Jon tries to kill an undead dragon by screaming. Arya bypasses all the wights and annihilates the whole army with a stab.

It was obvious that got went full pop corn. It really is a pity that such a colossal effort was blemished by poor lighting and silly plot issues.

Sorry if I screwed up the link.

Anyway, maybe old news, but this guy has a really great approach at an alternative ending:

Well, I just finished season 8. Here are my thoughts on the show, not that anybody cares:

Overall, I felt like there was a good amount of piddle-dicking throughout the series. The show already had a good and compelling triangle of conflict and intrigue between the Lannisters & the Starks, and then Dragon Lady as the outsider. Once season 1 was over, there was this long arc with Stannis Baratheon, the Wildlings, and the Boltons that didn't really feel important to the show.

A) After taking forever, Jon Snow eventually makes peace with the Wildings, but the vast majority just end up slaughtered by the undead anyway and they don't seem to be of any importance after that beyond being some extra bodies to fight at Winterfell.

B ) After Stannis loses the Battle of Blackwater he spends the entirety of season 3 sulking in his room, season 4 he pouts some more and hires a bunch of mercenaries, and then season 5 his army is ripped to pieces by Bolton in a one-sided slaughter that we don't even see.

C) After Bolton slaughters Stannis, Jon Snow and Littlefinger move in and slaughter him.

D) There was also this long arc with the High Sparrow that ultimately didn't seem important.

I'm sure plenty of people enjoyed those seasons but after the show already established a plot in season 1 between the Starks & the Lannisters, and hinted at an unknown threat beyond the Wall, I just wanted to move on with that plot. I never became very emotionally invested in all the filler stuff that happened in between because I already knew what seasons 7 and 8 were going to be about.

----

Now, as far as the end of the show goes: I thought they tied up all of the loose ends pretty neatly. I do agree with what seems to be most fans that Dragon Lady suddenly turning into Freddy Kruger at the end was unconvincing and poor writing. Yes, Dragon Lady became older and less idealistic as the show went on and I can understand her being ruthless and using the dragon to bust through the city defenses and end up incidentally killing a bunch of townspeople in the process (a dragon isn't a precise instrument) but episode 5 didn't really make any sense. She breached the walls, burned the fleet, and destroyed all of the scorpions. Her army was pouring through the walls and the city surrendered. She won.... and then just started burning everything after she already won for no particular reason. It wasn't a plot twist. It was stupid and random.

And yes, there was some other minor things that were irritating. The Dothraki committed suicide and charged into the undead horde by themselves instead of staying by the walls. But then another army of Dothraki magically appeared for the battle at King's Landing. Apparently there was another large camp of them sitting around eating potato chips and smoking bongs while the Battle of Winterfell took place.

Anya Stark has teleportation powers. Night King randomly dies with a hundreds of undead around him.

Overall the show got pretty awesome in seasons 7 and 8 when it didn't take forever for something to happen.

I also would have preferred the show concluded with the Night King instead of the civil war, but oh well.

Battles in Game of Thrones make no sense. People who are outnumbered 10 to 1 station their forces OUTSIDE of the friggin walls. They did the same thing at Blackwater. Stannis comes with his giant fleet and they open the gate and send a bunch of soldiers out to fight and get slaughtered.

At Winterfell, they put a bunch of trebuchets (I have no idea why they have trebuchets) outside the wall and IN FRONT OF the army. They literally fire for like 20 seconds while the Dothraki are charging and committing suicide and then that's it. That's their entire role in the battle.

And yes, after the Dothraki commit mass suicide, another army appears a few weeks later in front of King's Landing. So there was obviously large numbers of Dothraki smoking crack somewhere during the battle.

I wondered about that myself. Maybe the handful of dothraki survivors magically procreated like the red witch did, and made another army in a week or so? The fire god works in mysterious ways...

I can only agree that some arcs didn't have a satisfying, logical or even important outcome. Some characters do (almost?) nothing for a whole season with Jon being the most glaring example. He returns from the dead, then gets sidelined until the end of the series.

How I would have ended GOT:

With Jaime's help, Cersie begrudgingly accepts a truce. She marches an army north with the rest of the forces to join them in defending Winterfell. The Battle of Winterfell takes places and the odds are much closer this time with the vast majority of the Night King's forces destroyed, but the heroes are defeated and the surviving forces retreat on horseback. Dany and Jon are able to torch a lot of the slain to keep them from being raised, but the dragons have to retreat to avoid the Night King, especially after they discover they can't kill him with fire. Also, there's not a ton of random civilians chilling out in a crypt: the people who can't fight are already moving south in a large caravan.

In the mean time, more forces are able to mobilize in Westeros (especially at the news of what happened in Winterfell) and a massive final battle takes place at King's Landing. The water in the surrounding bay freezes over, trapping the Iron Fleet. The combined and organized defense + the dragons are destroying the undead by thousands and the battle appears to be going very well. Cersie secretly plots with the Mountain and several other trusted people to have Dany and Jon killed during the battle in order to secure her rule afterwards. Dany and Jon secretly plot the same because they realize Cersie will be a horrible ruler. Dany is assassinated but Jon manages to escape. The mess leads to confusion among the troops and with Dany dead, Drogon torches the Mountain and the other assassins and flies away with Dany's body. Jon stays behind with the last remaining dragon, which the Night King manages to slay with one of his ice spears. The undead breach the gates and everybody dies. The Night King reanimates the city, bringing hundreds of thousands into the undead horde. The final scene at King's Landing shows the Iron Throne behind a cloudy winter sky, vacant.

The final scene shows Arya on a ship, sailing west of Westeros with the cloud of winter hanging over Westeros in the distance. Spin off show begins.
