What's your opinion on the Aegon character introduced in A Dance with Dragons? My first reaction was "WTF" and it hasn't changed much. I want Daenerys to attack Westeros, not some young fanservice who is supposedly the son of Rhaegar.

Aegon isn't Aegon Targaryen. He's Aegon Mopatis, the son of Illyrio and his wife Serra (who is descended from the Blackfyres). Varys is also likely a Blackfyre relative - he has a Targaryen-ish name, his genitals were burned by a sorcerer because of their magical properties*, he keeps his head shaven to keep his Targaryen hair from showing (as Egg does in the Dunk and Egg stories)... Aegon being a Blackfyre is why the Golden Company broke its contract - "some contracts are writ in gold and some in blood" (maybe not a direct quote) is said by someone in A Dance with Dragons - and given that the Golden Company was founded by pro-Blackfyre rebel Aegor Rivers and later led by Maelys Blackfyre, it cares about Blackfyre blood. Aegon's heritage is foreshadowed by Septon Meribald, when he describes the Dragon Inn: (paraphrasing again) "It had a black dragon made of metal, which made it unpopular during the Blackfyre Rebellion. Someone threw it into the river and it washed ashore in Essos, but the black had rusted and become red." So the black dragon (Blackfyre) became the red dragon (Targaryen). Aegon may also be Quaithe's "mummer's dragon", that is, a false dragon, or alternatively a dragon belonging to a mummer (Varys).
Jon Connington sincerely believes that Aegon is his beloved Rhaegar's son, but is being lied to by the conspirators: Varys, Illyrio, and the head of the Golden Company.

* Targaryen blood. It's what Melisandre refers to as "king's blood" - she leeches Stannis and wants to burn Edric Storm (both of whom are descended from Targaryens), but doesn't care about Mance Rayder.

omg really? Where did you read that?

the only real tidbit of info outside of the books and the WoW chapters that i've read that i know if is that the word Brienne screamed when she was about to be hanged was "SWORD" in reference to the question "Sword or noose?" she was asked before being put to the gallows.

that and that JAIME probably is the "little brother" in the prophecy about Cersei's death, not tyrion as she believed.

I've pieced the theory together from various sub-theories posted on reddit.com/r/asoiaf.

Quote:

I think it's Tommen. The prophecy doesn't say it's her valonqar, just the valonqar. In fact, given that it refers to her children in the sentence before that, it is quite plausible it means "the valonqar of her children", i.e. Tommen. The prophecy does say that her children will die, but it doesn't say that all of her children will die - so as long as more than one child dies, that part would have been fulfilled. So Joffrey is dead, and Myrcella may die in Dorne, and then "Cersei's children are dead" would be a true statement, even though one of her children would still be alive. So, what I think will happen is that Myrcella will die in Dorne, then Cersei will go crazy and try to do something to the Tyrells* (probably Margaery), and then Tommen will finally use his authority as king to hang her.

* Also, I don't think Loras is gravely injured. It's part of the Tyrell plot to weaken Cersei.

Arranged from almost certain to merely plausible:
Lord Manderly killed the Freys that were visiting him, baked them into a pie, and served them at Winterfell.
The alchemist who killed Pate and stole his identity is Jaqen H'ghar, sent to the Citadel by the Faceless Men to interfere with anyone trying to bring the dragons back.
Ser Robert Strong is a Frankenstein's Monster-type creature created using Gregor's body.
Jon is the son of Rhaegar and Lyanna.
Sandor Clegane is alive and is the gravedigger on the Quiet Isle.
Tywin was the Hand that installed the secret passage in the Red Keep, and was visited by prostitutes.
Mirri Mraz Duur's prophecy to Daenerys was fulfilled.
Aerys wasn't entirely crazy.
Coldhands is the Night's King.
Euron gave a dragon egg to the Faceless Men as a payment for killing Balon.
The crossbow bolt with which Tyrion killed Tywin was poisoned by Oberyn Martell.
Littlefinger was behind Ser Mandon Moore trying to kill Tyrion.
Septa Lemore is Ashara Dayne.
Bloodraven and Shiera Seastar are Melisandre's parents.
Bran ate Jojen.

I can elaborate on any of these if you'd like.

ok i want to know more about the following (or rather: why they are theories)

- Tyrion's crossbow bolt being poisoned by the red viper
- Mélissandre is the daughter of bloodraven
- Mirri Maaz Duur's prophecy
- Sandor Clegane Surviving (i've actually read a theory that Sandor is will be the High Septon's Champion if Ser Robert Strong is Gregor Clegane (which i'm *pretty* sure he is)) (this doesn't entirely contradict your theory, but still my interest is piqued)
- Tywin, the secret passages 'n' stuff.

I either heard of the others and believe them or don't think there's enough evidence to understate such claims.

also, mvass you forgot a rather obvious one that hasn't been "officially" confirmed yet. Alleras, the Maester apprentice who greeted Samwell in Oldtown, is actually Sallera, one of the Sand Snakes. but maybe this one is *too* obvious

Drakon:
It's possible we'll never hear about him again. Or he'll be mentioned briefly in passing, and that's all we'll get.

Lexxan:
The Red Viper poisoned Tywin.
I can't find anything about why Melisandre is Shiera Seastar's daughter (but I remember reading it somewhere), but I've also heard that Quaithe may be Shiera Seastar herself.
Mirri Maz Duur's prophecy: "When the sun rises in the west and sets in the east" Quentyn Martell (whose house's symbol is the sun) came from the west and died in the east. "When the seas go dry" Daenerys is in the dry Dothraki sea. "mountains blow in the wind like leaves" Ashes blowing from the pyramids in Mereen. "When your womb quickens again" Daenerys bleeds. "Then he will return" Drogon returns.
Tywin the Hand.

That part is the most likely cliche that we'll see in the next books - Daenerys returning on the back of her dragons to retake the throne and burn a few Others along the way. What I find most stupid about this part is that all the character accompanying Daenerys which hail from Westeros refuse to tell her what kind of prick her father was (and only imply it slightly from time to time) so she can remain convinced that her cause is just - that's artificial at best. The other stupid part is that she's a totally unbelievable character - a brat teenager who leads armies, f****s with half a continent and administers cities (although rather poorly) is scoring very high in my ridiculous-meter. Rob Stark is just behind her but at least his inexperience shows from time to time (ultimately with his death).
