Discworld RP (OOC)

Welcome to the world of the Disc. A place where anything can happen. And it usually does. All you need to do is stay as far away as possible from it when it happens. It won't save you, but at least you'll have a nice view before your life turns to hell.

The Discworld is your average stereotypical fantasy setting. If there's a myth or a story or a fairytale about something, chances are it exist on the Disc. In the dozens books in the Discworld series (out of which I'm currently reading the 15th) Pratchett describes a great many things. On the other hand he is careful not to go into too restricting details, so there's much left to the imagination. For example the geography, there are great many places of interest on the Disc, but no actual map bringing them together. Some of these places are:

Klatch - a continent filled with grim black-skinned people.

The Counter-Weight continent - a wealthy and secluded nation built on honor and feudalism.

Ramtops - the dangerous mountains full with small villages, deadly avalanches, harsh weather and high magic concentration.

Lancre - one of the small kingdoms in the Ramtops filled with political disputes, both internal and external. Also, home to possibly the last of the witches.

Ephebe - country of philosophers and mad inventors.

Tsort - Ephebe's mortal enemies. They say it started with some pretty lady not being able to stay in place a long time ago, but no one's really knows or cares what exactly happened.

And of course, Ankh-Morpork - the greatest largest and most modern city on the Disc. The only one that can be proudly called a metropolis. There are a great many other things it can be called, but most of them are not suited to a PG board. The place is run by a cruel but just Patrician with an extensive spy network. It has such great places as the Guilds - the Patrician made sure everything is well organized, including trade, theft and murder. It is also the base of the Unseen University - the greatest and only school for wizards. Like all proper universities, it is based on a structure of ranks and everybody in it use most of their time trying to climb that rank ladder. The rest of the time they spend feasting and napping, so there's very little actual magic done in the University these days.

But most importantly, Ankh-Morpork is where you all will start your adventure. The target of this adventure you will find out in the IC thread... in time.

Now to the character sheet. I only want the basic stuff, like name, race, occupation and description. You don't need to make a complete list of equipment, except the main items like weapons and armor.

This leads me to the next point - you don't have to have weapons and armor. You don't have to be a warrior at all. The Discworld series features the most unexpected heroes and I'll allow this here as well. If you want to use only your wit to get around, I'll do my best to give you that opportunity.

Races:
Humans - most of the Discworld are. Some jobs will only be open to the human race.

Dwarves - your standard short miner/smith/artificer etc. etc.

Trolls - huge humanoid slabs of rock with enormous strength and small brains. Will turn to stone in daylight unless they use a lot of sunscreen.

Undead - zombies, vampires, werewolves, ghouls, banshees, you know... all those people you pointedly ignore if you meat them on the street.

Gods - they are very very real. The great ones are out of the question, but I may allow a very small god with extremely limited abilities.

Occupations:

Wizard - like the D&D wizards, their power comes from studying and preparing spells. If you choose to play a wizards your abilities will be limited.

Witch - there are different kinds of witches. Some excel in medicine, others in special potions of the kinds wives buy when nobody's looking and some prefer good old "headology". Of course, they all know some actual magic, but they tend to do without it.

Barbarian hero - big, strong, adventurous and loves money and fame.

Mercenary - take all of the above, then remove everything except the money part. You got it.

Night Watch - the night protectors of Ankh Morpork. Well, not so much protectors as the people who make sure to note any trouble that's about to happen and get away from as quickly as possible. They're not paid enough for anything better.

Thief - a freelancer or a part of the Guild.

Assassin - it's not easy to become a proper assassin, so chances are all of them are from the Guild. The Assassin Guild is a prestigious guild, only for the sons of the richest and the brightest.

Fool - probably also a part of the Guild. The Fools Guild is very demanding and leaves its students with permanent mental scars, which makes you wonder what kind of a fool one has to be to enroll in the first place.

Priest - there are an innumerable amount of Gods on Discworld, which means that there are even more priests, praying and sacrificing in their name.

Anything else you can think of it - just go for it.

I know these are not the standard choices, but Discworld, while being stereotypical, is not a standard world. Just do what you want, and we'll all try to make the best of it.

Good Luck.

Race: God

Name: Bilious, the Oh-God of Hangovers

Physical appearance: He looks like a young man with the classical toga, but his toga is colorful with bits of things that have come up out of him that he has not eaten or drunk the night before

Believers: The people who wake up after a night's drinking and moan "oh god...", as they suffer from a hangover

Power: He gets all of the bad effects of drinking even though he has never touched a drop. He has a supreme dislike of people who drink heavily, especially if they don't appear to suffer from a hangover the next day; understandably so, since the reason that they have not, in fact, suffered a hangover, is because he has suffered it instead.

Equipment: A rather messy toga.

I'll try to play consistently, in the event of giving up, I'll notify You in this thread first.

Seeing as I don't know the world much, I read one Pratchett book years ago and never realy felt the need to do so again, I'm gonna see what I can come up with.
How's this?

Name: Wolfram "The Wanderer"
Race: Human
Age: 30-ish
Occupation: Vagabond/Professional Traveler/Guide/storyteller
Appearance: Like this.
Biography: Wolfram has traveled longer than he can remember and is from a place he couldn't find on a map if he tried, despite his claims to traveled the world. He could guide you pretty much anywhere as long as you're not in a hurry and don't mind taking the scenic route. Lives of the land or of the meals and drinks strangers buy him to continue one of his amazing stories of dubious truthfullness. Dreadfully curious and up for pretty much anything if it will make for a good tale later.
Items: Shillelagh, that he says works as a dowsingrod; Jackknife; Seemingly bottomless pouch of tobacco for his pipe;

That would be Omnia, good sir. Quirm is primarily known for the Quirm College for Young Ladies (attended by Susan Sto Helit) and is generally a peaceful town, hardly enemies of anyone.

Name: Ethan Chonal

Age: 26

Race: Human

Class/Profession: Mercenary/Wanderer/Fighting Tutor/Wannabe Poet

Alignment: Neutral Good

Appearance: Something like this

Bio: "Wha? Oh, you wanna know something about me? Alright I guess... But let's order a beer first. (...) Well, I was born in Ankh-Morpork. My father is a successful trader of various goods - weapons, food, clothing, trinkets... You name it, he's got it. Anyway, I was always a cheery, free spirit - going wherever I want, trying everything I can whenever I can. My father hired a tutor to teach me how to fight, as he knew that a trader's life isn't for me. The tutor's name was Adiran Tesio, and he was the best damn tutor there can ever be! I quickly managed to understand some of the more complex fighting techniques there are, and sir Adrian taught me to handle a sword as good as I can handle an axe. I can use a bow, too. The only thing I'll never understand is how to wield pike. No matter how hard I try, I just can't get used to it! Well, at the age of 21, I left my home and started wandering the land as a mercenary. I've joined a couple of groups as a member, but they were so quiet and cold-hearted, so I left them. Oh, yeah, during my time with these groups I started writing poetry to make the time pass faster. I've only written one short poem for now and I can't get myself to write an another one. Maybe the inspiration will strike me as I continue my journey? Who knows? Anyways, right now I'm teaching some kids how to fight - I can't work as a mercenary when there's no one to hire me. (...) That would be my story. Now, how about we order again?"

Inventory: "Tormalk" the axe crafted by the Dwarven smith Dorerg Bazirori; "Arten" the lucky dagger; A lucky talisman from his father; A piece of paper with a poem written on it

Skills (from 1-10):
Strength: 7
Intelligence: 4
Agility: 6
Charisma: 7
Wisdom: 5
Luck: 7

I hope this is okay.

Name : Lupo Virtis (Spirit of the wolf)
Race : Demi-God (Half human Half God)
Origin : Son of Ares, god of war and a mortal human Female.  Demi-god of Fighting.

Abilities : He can copy any fighting maneuver after just seeing it once, and after a few minutes of fighting any enemy knows how to counter every attack (even with weapons).  He does not copy any inate ability, physical characteristic (str, dex, etc), or anything he can not see for any reason (however, once he knows a move..he can use it freely even against other enemies.).  If you have ever seen Taskmaster from Ultimate Spider man..he is like him. He can fight blind (in darkness, etc) but as mentioned he can not use his demi-god ability (can't learn moves, can't learn counter moves)

Class Warrior (should be obvious )

Stats : Generally he is very strong, agile, and tough.  He is clever also, but the rest of his stats would not be very good.

Description : Dark skin, hair, and eyes (think latino or half african-american).  Physically imposing, with broad shoulders.  Military style hair cut, clean shaven.

Items - Cetus (hand held weapon, may be spelling it wrong), chain mail (doesn't like to be bogged down with too heavy of armor).

Weakness : Unlike most, he has a major weakness.  He has trouble turning down a good fight.  He LOVES a good fight.  Can get him into some serious trouble.

Alignment Neutral good.

Edit:

I'm going to play a mad inventor.

Name: Anatolios
Race: Human
Gender: Male
Age: 36
Occupation: Mad inventor from Ephebe; Anatolios is here in Ankh-Morpork to obtain components for his inventions.
Appearance: Slightly bent over from tinkering his whole life, light scraggly hair going to gray and bald and watery gray eyes.
Equipment: Mostly things he uses to work on his inventions, but most notably he has a piece of headgear that gives him eyes in the back of his head, an all-terrain vehicle that is powered by atheists*, and his most recent (still in progress) invention: a wand that you point at a piece of paper and then it conjures a voice that speaks to the person it's addressed to. He calls it a Tell-A-Gram.

*agnostics will do in a pinch but they're harder to work with.
