Poll Question:
Is ranpart a good town to play as because I suck unless i play as tower or necropolis

Hi,
I was just wondering if anyone can help me with rampart.
I love shooting towns, most of all Tower, but its no fun playing as just two diffrent towns every time. So I tried playing as Rampart for their magic resistances and elves
and I got smacked around alot... please help!!!!

There are of course many opinions on town strategies.  Take a look at the spirit of the forest thread.  You'll find it in the library's table of contents.
Personally, if I could vote 50 times on this poll you've set up, I would.  Without a doubt, the Rampart sucks.

Rampart is OK, I used to like it for it's unicorn only (blind rulez)!

I use Tower as my primary choice, Inferno second, kicked dungeon for the 3rd place!

Rampart is the only town that is strong at all difficulties. So one could say itīs the best town in the game. (Leaving out Conflux of course).

Every town has it's advantages and disadvantages. All you need to be a good rampart player is to know how to use it's advantages. If you use the right strategy, you'll be able to win, no matter which town you play. But, of course, the winning strategy is different for each town...

Rampart is one of my fav town, even not played it lately lol.
Lv1Centaur captains-are most powerfullets & good speed in #'s good to have if you have the #'s.
lv2 Battle Dwarfs-Really slow but has the magic resistance possibly ruin a chainlightning but who know lol, you can get alot of the
Lv3 Grand elves-simply one of the best low lv shooters in the game very powerful with each shot works good with luck or bless
lv4 Silver Pegasis-Really fast & will early in the game most likely give you the first initiative in battle other wise not that strong.
lv5 Dendroid soldiers-Awfully slow but they are good defenders. If you  have haste or teleport they can do some good damage & bind even the toughes 7th lv creature unless all dendroids die or they move & & dont hit the creature.
lv6 War Unicorns-Dont underestimate the unicorns they are really powerful with descent stats & can blind anyone immune to it randomly good speed.
lv7 Gold Dragons-If you can get the gold dragons then you are in good hands a little more better in stats then it's cousin the black dragons even though only immune to lv4 spells. very powerful & learn to do double hits

Good luck

1use the rangers cause there druids aren't that good
-Ivor (archer spec) starts with Basic Archery and Basic Offense is a very good one
-Jenova (+350/day) advanced archery
-Kyrre (logistics) is one of the best heroes and if you leave the slowwer units behind you can run throught the map at an amazing speed
-Mephala(armorer) i really like this one because the high HP of all rampart units so amorer really helps
-Ryland(dendroids) some find this one good but i don't really like him (he starts with leadership and diplomacy)
-Thorgrim(resistance)if you play VS a Magic freak this one is your choice

2) always take tactics (rangers got a very good change of getting that druids almost none)

3)try to get mass bless the increase is an average of 35%

4)rampart has some of the most cost effective units

5)leave dwarfs at home in the begin the centaurs and elves are everything you need

6)protect your elves at all costs

Rampart is an interesting town to play with and I don't think it sucks! * looking at Gootch *

Dendroids and Dwarves are dead slow, but they've got good HPs and are numerous, and will definitely come in handy during battles - to protect them elves!  The problem though is moving around with them, as they tend to slow you down.  So perhaps you may consider using Kyrre.  Personally though, I think that any ranger will do, as they are of quite a good class of heroes.

Rampart is fun to use (so are any other town ), try it.

Yes... don't believe Gootch when he says that it sucks, he just had a rather nasty episode with Jenova one weekend. j/k

With rampart, you will always want to get tactics, ballistics and/or earth magic (water magic is also good) and you will have plenty of defense so I suggest you concentrate on building up your defense. Rangers are very good heroes, but frankly Druids are a little on the weak side for magic... ummm... yes. Upgrade gold dragons as soon as you can. My building schedule usually is building up to capitol week one, w/ homestead on day 7, and upgrading it on day one of the 2nd week. Oh, and leave dendroids and dwarves at your castle either as a second army or as siege defenders.

actually its pretty boring to hear the offline player stories again and again lol...i get capitol as fast as i can blah...if rampart has 1 advantage, its that they cheap in gold (not in ressources thou lol)
there are many good rangers, so that another advantage

disadvantage is the crystal cost and the stupid dendros, i would always prefer stronghold, most of times no L6 but kick ass L5 and L7 (upgraded only) most of times week1
also nothing, really nothing can compare with stronghold heroes, they have everyone, log, 2 offense, most barbs are usueful, terek, gird for magic lovers, the list goes on

I guess it's a matter of personal prefs. For me stronghold is my last pick lol. I have only 1 online win with it lol, and it seems to me I get it too often on random . 2 reasons I dont like it - I prefer magic heroes usually and stronghold is not known for good magic lol. 2 - I prefer good ranged crits and with Stronghold I dont remember ever having clops and orcs trully suck.

Rampart I find a good town for randoms. Elves week 1 (usually even day 1). If you get some of them with heroes, 10 or so elves + centaurus will carry you week 1. Upgrade them early week 2 and you can clear almost anything in sight that is not guarded by level 6 or 7. Tactics and mass slow is a must. Crystals might be a problem, but at least you can build the silo. Many (cheap) hit points, good magic resistance, good heroes. Overall - one of the best towns me think.

to Andi:
I've had quite a few games when my elves decimate any early stronghold army with behemoths and rocs. There is nothing more enjoying than forsing your opponent to flee/surrender with almost no army left and no citi hall built when loosing only a few centaurs.

Rampart, like every town, has its pros and cons. It isn't better or worse than the rest of the towns. I don't know for ranpart though, haven't neither played with it or seen it.

Btw, if people think that some town sucks it is propably only because they don't know how to play with them.

Why do you read it then? I agree that most of the above texts show little or no insight in the game, but on the other hand, this is not the ToH message board, so thereīs definitely nothing wrong with playing offline and posting here. Whatīs the point of insulting people because they probably have a job, a girlfriend, or both, and for that reason are not able or willing or both to play 150+ games a year?

quote:" ... It isn't better or worse than the rest of the towns ..."

Why are there always people trying to sound important by saying things like "it isnīt better or worse than the rest of the towns" or further above "the winning strategy is different for each town"? If youīve ever been Fortress at normal difficulty, or Tower at impossible, you know that of course the towns are not at all equal in strenght, and neither strategically very different from each others. Explore quickly into all directions, and build high level creature dwellings during the first week.

Too bad if my opinion did sound important. But you can't prove me otherwise even if you arouse some facts or fictions like difficulty, size of map, type of map and what is in it. Sure, if you can't play with Fortress you think that it is weaker than other towns while you are good with Dungeon and think that is the best town and those are your personal fondnesses. I, on the other hand, think that they are balanced (except Conflux), which does not make me better or worse player than what I am.

As for that each town doesn't have different strategies is totally senseless. True, in adventure map they do have same purposes but even there they have different means to reach those purposes. You want a fast scout for Fortress? Then you will use Dragon Flies. You want a fast scout for Rampart? Then you use (Silver) Pegasi unless Dragon Flies are given.

But what really makes strategies different is battle. If you shield your shooters when you are tower with your units would you do likewise when you are playing Fortress? Sure you would if you have the shooting advantage or/and spell casting advantage but that likely means that you have to use different town's shooters and that isn't so much Fortress anymore. On a large map where there is lot of neutral towns to be conquered will affect your strategy a lot, but on the map where you have to hang with your main town you will use that town's strategy to ensure your way to victory. Even then your strategy will be affected by heroes, artifacts and spells that you have gained but you still have to rely on your creatures. And creatures are things that mainly makes each town different.

With Inferno you would like and try to gain as many Demons as it is possible for you with your Pit Lords. With Castle you can't even if you like to have demons simply because they don't have means to gain them. When your hero is developed to level 20 you don't propably like or need to kill lots of goblins just to gain some experience but with Necropolis you are more tempted to engage them as you can raise them as skeletons.
