And what exactly is Fortress early army? Lizardmen don't do damage and Gnolls are weak.

Day two you have 2 wiverns.

And when do I build things like Mage Guild and marketplace? Mage Guild is important but feels a waste using a turn for it and same for marketplace.

So what's more important, get 2 wiverns asap and possibly get 10-20k more gold around with, or build a mage guild then a market place and try to defeat monsters around with 2 magic arrows + stock options?

As already mentioned, 2 wyverns day 2 (or even day 1) are a strong army. You can do a lot with them.

Do NOT underestimate gnolls. With a bunch of lizards (2 heroes + town dwelling) and a horde of gnolls (2 heroes + town dwelling), you can kill a lot of creeps around which guard gold and resources. If you are lucky and found a hero with flies comming with, you have a good creep for lurking on the battlefield.

If you play against a human player, I would recommend to play on 130%. The comp (neutral creeps) plays nearly at its best, and that's what counts. Everything else just lenghtens the game and makse no difference.

And of course there are crypts on swamp terrain. Only on lava terrain you do not find them.

What? There are really Crypts on the swamp? I've only seen it once and I though it was glitched. Is it just really rare? Whenever I play Rampart there are like 5 crypts all the time.
And I will follow your tips, I guess I need to just learn to play.

Can anyone explain how exactly do you do Hit and Run effectively as it seems to be so effective people actually don't even allow it?

Hit n Run is no good technique. IT consumes huge amount of movement and money if used with Main, and even Main only does proper damage by surrender runs. Also it Costs loads of time, that is why its Banner in the First Place. In geändert Forum there also are debates over that issue, Leasing to a rule of Honor, stating you cant buy New heroes starting with Fürst contact.

I can't agree less with hit and run being an honor issue. If we take that way, soon double attacking because of morale will be considered not honorable. Hit and run is part of the game, it has several counters and IS fun to do if properly. Or not fun if the other is prepared. In general is helpful if the game is played without any rule, and sometimes it is the only solution. I remember a 2x2 game I played with Frank vs 2 guys from toh and they insisted on no hit and run; bored to death we accepted. Then one of them found the cloak of undead king and came up with 700 liches. Game over but "honorable"...that was the last time I accepted to play with a rule.

Its no Honor issue, but I like the rule, since it greatly speeds the game up, and After 6 hitnruns, it becomes Boeing anyway. The rule of Honor i talked about only stated to Not buy New heroes starting with First contact. I like it...

Ok so if I notice that I have emptied all the important guardians near my starting area and I like 3 or more heroes not being able to do anything because they can't move to the next zone because it's guarded. But if I am too weak to beat the guadians without losses, should I still go for it or should I wait for the 2nd week?

Guards blocking a way to another zone. In Skirmish template 90% of them seems to Evil Eyes which are very annoying to deal with for the first 2 weeks.

Oh and another thing, does anyone any creature bank guides left? I have read many threads and such and most are so old they have no pics or the posts no longer exist.

use patches carefully. It can be considered cheating (one-side advantage) if you have some patch and opponent doesn't have or doesn't know about it.

imagine that you play Rampart on Blockbuster, you have big army week 3 like - 5 angels, 10 uni, 68 grand elves, 30 wyverns, 130 centaurs...and you have good stats like 20/20/15/15...and you meet near your opponent's town...he's Fortress...with small army and smaller stats, let say 12/10/15/13
he attacks you with 1 dragon fly, casts Implosion on Grand elves, surrenders right after the cast.
Then he buys this hero and repeats attack 2-3 more times till he has movement and spell points.
at the end you have no army and you didn't have any chance to participate on battle.
This is not related to "honor", many players just don't find it interesting to lose whole long game due to initial speed advantage...attempts to counter h&r delay the game and are not much effective, except Shakles of course...
IMHO you will play with "H&R allowed" rule just till the time you will face skilled player. If you will play vs noobs they will unlikely use H&R

We use hit and run in our games and it hasn't been anything too bad. How often are you gonna get implosion in 3rd week? In fact I've never got that spell in an online match.

Anyways I went ahead and carefully read the WCL rules and I think they are for the most part ok. I just don't understand why you are not allowed to upgrade Hive wyverns and why high level scrolls and hit and run are banned.

On random maps I often see high level scrolls with relatively weak guards, so it's quite possible to have implosion in week 3 without having a level 5 mage guild. Getting such spells early can really quickly turn the game around. So I guess that's also why high level scrolls are banned with WCL rules.

Personally I really don't like scrolls, because of what I just mentioned and also they often spam the inventory, which is kind of annoying. So what I like to do is edit objects.txt so they are not placed at all on random maps. I also like to disable obelisks the same way. That's of course in addition to SAG's B4 patch.

I guess I am just unlucky then. I have only found 1 level 5 scroll and it was a summon elemental spell on one of the default templates. But if level 4 and 5 scrolls are banned then being able to hit and run with them is not an issue. But yes hit and run is annoying, dumb and takes a long time but I don't see how it's overpowered.

About Skirmish, does anyone know anything about this template? How to play on it? It seems most of everything is guarded by either Harpies or Evil Eyes which is really really annoying. Other than that it's a fantastic template, but how can I beat those things with my week 1 army?
If not playing random I am usually playing Fortress with Tazar or Dungeon with Shakti.

When is a good time to visit your castle with your main hero? 2nd week? it seems that since you will chain your heroes away, especially your main you do want to come back for a spell book or a few new spells, no?

You should not. Get a spellbook from a neutral town if you need one. The time it takes for your main to return to your main castle takes so much time you are likely to lose the match because of it. If you really need to get your main back for any reason, I suggest you give all your units to the nearest hero, chain the units back to the main castle and then go to a battle and retreat with your main and recruit him back from the tavern.

It really depends....

..if you play against the computer on 200% you just put your starting armies together and kill your computer opponent next door on day7. He got 20.000 bugs from start on and did put that into his armie buildings. Meanwhile you put all the money you got in your money buildings of your hometown.

... if you play against a human it doesnt matter how you build your town because you surely get your ass wiped no matter what. But to at least show some progress you can try to turn your noobie style into online gaming, which means..

1. Creatures win the game not money buildings.
2. The chances to win, are higher with a might hero and to rely on healthpoints, but to play with a magic hero and rely on magic arrows.
3. Learn how to arrange your heroes properly (= chaining creatures).

Btw. there will always be more unskilled players that do suggest capitol first week, then players that do actually know something about the game.
