ubisoft survey

I recently saw a banner asking me to take a survey on ubisoft, with promise of 30 Uplay units on completion.   I did that, but have not seen the units turn up.

Is this some sort of sham?  Has anyone else received the Uplay reward for doing the survey?

General rule for this kind of surveys (free stuff, just sign here!) - don't do them. Most of them wants only your e-mail address for spamfest and rarely gives what they promise.

I agree in general that most survey offers are spam magnets -- but this one is being displayed on the opening Ubisoft game page so it should have been legit.

Well, I guess it's time to contact the glorious Ubisoft complaints department then.

You could send a report ticket here, sometimes things get overlooked. If you explain the situation, the support should reimburse you.

EDIT:

LOL!

Ubisoft has replied.  They have no intention in making the game available in a format I am willing to buy -- i.e. it will be download content only.

That is a shame, and an attitude I do not understand.

It's just a sign of the times, really, Dale. Hardcopies are thing of the past and going the way of the dinosaurs. I expect that no game will be sold as hardcopy for any machine that has internet access in a few more years, that it will be download only.

I used to prefer hardcopies as well, but I have given up on acquiring them; I'm going with the flow now and simply download them when released.

Once you have downloaded it, can you keep a copy to install again when you change computers?

I have a box of older game disks, some of which were originally installed on my computer two generations ago, and from time to time will install them again on the current computer to play.

Call me an old timer, but I do not trust things kept in the "cloud".  I only trust what I have on hand.

About keeping things on "cloud" I agree with you dale. But usually, downloaded installations can be used on different computers.

Does the DLC give you a copy of an install file?  Or does it install the program on your computer?

I completely understand you; as it is, I've recently replayed Dune2, which was a DOS game of the mid-90's and for a while now I've had an itch to replay the first two Command & Conquer games. I've also got disks of old games around, and one of the modern day challenges is to make those old school games run decently on current day hardware, hehe.

Still, considering that most of these "download-only" game also have some sort of DRM that requires a connection to a game server somewhere (even if only to "validate" that you can legally play that game), I doubt most games that are done that way today will be playable in twenty years down the road, simply because those validation servers will no longer be operational. That's one of the major pitfalls that I see with the current online DRM check.

I am not sure if UPlay and Steam have downloaded installers for the games hosted through their platforms. Either way, even if you do have them from way back, it's likely they will require numerous patches that you'd have to download as well somehow. I know some games can be freely transported and moved to another machine and still run without a specific Windows installation, but some other games really integrate themselves into your Windows OS (like installing DLLs and/or adding registry entries) and therefore cannot be moved to another machine due to those dependencies.
